“Very relaxing holiday”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

We stayed here for a week in July, as a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers in a 2 bed apartment. The apartments are very large, comfortable and well equipped. The balconies are amazing and every one has a fantastic view of the town, harbour, sea and incredible rocks. My only slight complaint about the apartment is there is no air conditioning which we did find difficult as didn't want to leave balcony doors open at night in case of bugs and during the day provided little breeze anyway, so we had to buy additional free standing fans for our rooms at a cost of 70 euros for 2. The ceiling fans were insufficient and these additional fans really did the trick so the hotel could do well to either provide better ceiling or other fans or get air con. On another positive most of the staff are fantastic and very helpful, especially Alex and Agaluf (not sure if that is spelt correctly though) and really go out of their way to make everyone happy. The whole place is spotlessly clean, not a cockroach or ant in sight as we have experienced in tenerife before so this is a real plus. We were half board and whilst the quality of the food we had on the whole was very good the evening menu is quite limited and I could not have coped with it for more than a week just down to the limited options and need to repeat same items. We often asked for things that were also not available which further hampered this. Breakfast buffet is adequate and fairly good with some items also cooked to order. Outside dining in either breakfast or dinner restaurants with incredible views over the town and sea and amazing sunsets at night are also a real plus. The location is great, a lovely walk down into Santiago, Los Gigantes or Playa La Arena still only 20-30 mins away but we tended to get a cab back as the hotel sits at the highest point so quite a tough walk back but which is great for the views which are the most amazing we have ever experienced from the entire hotel. Pool area is more than adequate and very quiet as many guests seem to go on trips or to the beach (at least they did while we were there), plenty of beds and umbrellas. The drinks are a bit pricey although they did amend some of these whilst we were there but as the apartments also provide very well for self catering you can easily bring in your own drinks for during the day. Entertainment limited at night and mostly provided for during dinner. I would definitely return to this hotel as it provided an extremely chilled break for us all, however, I would probably go there self catering next time unless the limited menu were extended.

Room Tip: We were 3rd floor next to pool which initially concerned us but which actually proved to be quite us...

Just got back from a week at the Royal Sun. The accommodation is fantastic - huge airy apartments with the best balconies you'll find anywhere.

We booked through Thomson who were completely inept - next time we'd book direct with the Royal Sun, and arrange our own flights and transfers. We arrived at the Royal Sun to find there was no reservation for us, and the place was fully booked. I called the Thomson 24 hour helpline and from comments the chap made, I figure they had booked us into a hotel in Turkey.

The receptionist at the Royal Sun managed to jiggle some bookings and got us in, but it was incredibly stressful for an hour or so.

I was concerned that we wouldn't be on the pick-up list for transfers back to the airport at the end of the week, so I used the 24 hour helpline again and asked them to check and confirm. It took 3 more calls over 5 days to get confirmation.

There seems to be no Thomson rep at the Royal Sun, but I expected that given they'd mixed-up our booking, and I'd called the helpline 4 times, we'd have had a call or a visit from a rep from one of the other nearby hotels to check we were OK, but we didn't. Essentially apart from booking the flights, Thomson completely left us to fend for ourselves.

Stayed here for a week in July. The hotel and views were beautiful and the staff were very friendly and would go out of their way to help you and make sure your happy especially the entertainer Alex and the pool staff Agalaf who made amazing cocktails! The manager Richard was also very friendly and funny and did a good job of looking after us! Lovely place to go for a relaxing week away and lots to do for kids. Would recommend it to anyone and I've booked to go back!

I went to this hotel with my parents and it was definitely my best holiday, I made loads of friends and the staff were very friendly. We were in room 508 which was on the second top floor and the view was stunning. The rooms are great with loads of room and enormous balconies overlooking the beautiful cliffs and the town. The hotel is very clean and quiet and the town provides a lively night out. I'd like to give a special word of praise to Alex and Agalaf, they do a great job of getting the teenagers together and made the holiday very fun.

We stayed at this hotel the first week in July 2013 , it was excellent the rooms are large with huge terraces there is no air conditioning but we found leaving the ceiling fans on all the time was sufficient. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean our room was cleaned and we had fresh towels daily. The pool was bigger than expected and there was always plenty of sunbeds and nobody ever reserved them with towels. The food is excellent we have 3 vegetarians in our family but there was something for everyone, Luis our waiter was fantastic he had an excellent knowledge of the wine list and menu, he was funny and friendly as were all the staff. Alex the entertainment manager did a brilliant job he is very young and good looking but he had activities for all ages and the evening entertainment was just right. It is only about 10 minute walk to the town and the beach, it is a steep hill but only 3 euros in a taxi if you don't want to walk back up. The beach at Los Gigantes is small but sandy and clean and much better than the tiny rocky beach further up. Thanks to this hotel and the wonderful staff we had an amazing hoilday, and would love to return.

Room Tip: All rooms are good we had 212 which was next to restaurant but close to pool. Another tip keep the l...
