Had a great holiday, good value for money. Apartments basic but clean and in a great location. Did not eat there so can't comment. We enjoyed it so much, we are going back in July. Also a big thank you to Julie the Thomas Cook rep, who was really helpful and passed on loads of local information.

Just wanted to say , went back to el sombrero in Dec. Still wonderful, but gave it a 4 this year instead of the 5 I gave last year because of the pool bar food.
In 2011 the food was quite nice, and we ate a few things there. On our visit a month ago the food wasn't that great, & a bit too pricey.
I'm not one of those people who don't bring things to the attention of the management, then moan like mad on review sites when they get home, but I honestly forgot to mention it to the staff when we were there.
It won't put us off though, we're looking to go back dec2013, but will mention the food if it hasn't improved.

Room Tip: Take earplugs in case you get a room facing the main road. These rooms are fine just a little bit mo...

these apartments were very basic, not what i expected or wanted, ended up in a twin room which was no use, felt as if we just got shafted, the hotel manager and the waitress at the pool bar were freindly enough, rooms were dated but clean.

Thank you so much Juan for such a lovely stay. I arrived on the 21st December 2012 and departed on the 28th December 2012 after having a very comfortable and safe stay at the appartments. Although a little basic and dated: too much dark wood, I had a very enjoyable stay. The only thing I would say that would enhance the appartments would be that a microwave and free use of a TV with English channels be made available. That said the appatment had everything I needed for a short stay, I would definately stay there again. The appartment I had was spacious and clean with a lovely sea view and the staff were very polite and helpful. Great location with Tippsy Terrace just across the road and other bars/restaurants very close to hand made these appartments an ideal place to stay. Juan you are a gentleman and a star for making my stay as a single traveller over Christmas pleasant and enjoyable with nothing too much trouble for you.

This is the third December we have stayed at El Sombrero. The first different thing we noticed was the dark wooden furniture in our studio room had been painted cream - which gave it a more contemporary feel. Yes, these apartments are dated but they are spacious and clean and the views from the balconies are amazing. The grounds are beautifully kept, with an abundance of flowering shrubs. Los Gigantes hasn't changed one bit - a villagey feel with all the amenities one could wish for. Plenty of restaurants and small shops to keep you occupied, buses right outside the apartments for trips further afield. We would recommend a trip on the bus to Puerto de la Cruz (1 hour 45 mins) but the scenery on the journey is amazing. Luis' old bar is now called 23 degrees (in the square) and serves lovely tapas and you get a very warm welcome and excellent service from the gentlemen who run it. Friendly Dolphin is great if you want a bit of British grub and, as always, a friendly welcome from Sonia and Arthur and their ever helpful waiter, Carlos.

One disappointing thing was the entertainment in Highland Paddy. Before it was re-built, they had some very good acts there - Bitter and Twisted to name but one. Now the acts they have are very sub-standard - the manager (Nathan) is by far a better singer than any of the acts he employs. In fact, he far outshines any of the contestants on this year's X-Factor.

We had a wonderful holiday here, yet again, and shall be returning next December. If that's not a recommendation for the place, I don't know what is.

Room Tip: The higher the room, the better the view.

Stayed here for two lovely weeks. The room was spacious, had all the kitchen essentials you could need for all your cooking needs. Had a lovely balcony with an excellent view over to La Gomera, brilliant for sunsets. Cleaners came in everyday except for two. Owner was friendly as were other staff. The pool area was fine. Only down side would be the pool bar, fine for drinks but can get cheaper in Los Gigantes and the food not great and was slightly put off when the vinegar had small flies floating within it. But this did not ruin our stay and nothing was too much trouble if you asked. Los Gigantes is a great base for a holiday especially if you like Brit Bars but there are some other nice restaurants as well. Would recommend a trip to la Gomera and definetely hire a car and explore both Garanchico and La Orotova as they are both lovely more traditonal canarian towns. Also a must is a trip up to Teide national park, spectacular scenery and views.

Room Tip: If you can numbers 10, 11 and 12 are very good for the views.

I think the fact that these apartments were full says it all .They are good value ,comfortable and very affordable .The grounds are well kept, you have a kichen, room safe ,night porter.Thesr apartments are not plush but they comfortable ,and you can sense the people that own them have a sense of responsibility to the customer. Overall you feel safe there and that goes for los Gigantes itself .
