“Diamond Apartments, Los Gigantes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

Lovely modern apartments, with a wonderful view out towards La Gomera - I loved waking up every morning to have breakfast looking out across the sea.

Family run business from what I could gather - the reception is not manned 24hrs though, mainly between 10 and 4pm so not ideal if you rely on that sort of thing. We arrived at 10pm and the key was in the door for our apartment so can't complain.

Bar beside the pool run by the lovely Jose, who would bend over backwards to help - always service with a smile. Plenty of loungers round the pool - but I will say they could use some cushion on loungers as they get quite uncomfortable!

Hotel is located towards the back of Los Gigantes, but it's a short walk down hill to the bars and restaurants. There is a taxi rank if you think you'll struggle with the walk home at the end of the night. Disappointed with the food in Los Gigantes, very anglo-fied but I imagine alot of tourist resorts in Tenerife have suffered the same fate. It's a 20min walk into Puerto Santiago which is the next town, a few nice restaurants with lovely views over the sea however the food is much the same as in Los Gigantes.

As soon as we walked in late the first night we were wow'ed by our lovely apartment. All very clean & modern, providing everything you need. When we woke up in the morning and went out on the balcony, we were wow'ed all over again by the fantastic sea view. The pool bar was lovely, providing tasty, cheap food & cold drinks. All the staff were really friendly. Good selection of bars & restaurants in the town, the only negative being the very long hill up to the apartments, but cheap taxi's available to those who would struggle with it. A room & towels provided on the last day (as we had a late flight home) so we could have a shower etc at no extra cost. Lovely relaxing break with stunning scenery.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely

we spent 2 weeks at these lovely apts and could have happily stayed there. only drawback was all the 'mountain climbing', well thats what it felt like... very very hilly. The apartments are beautiful inside but the cleaners arent the best, but we did have our beds changed every 4th day which was fab. watch out for the plastic furniture out on balconies... the sun overheats them and the plastic becomes brittle, Julian told me 43 chairs had broken, I would guess all of them on the balcony. I was sitting on one and both back legs snapped off and I fell and gave myself a nasty bump off the coffee table.. could have been much worse though.
I would return to these apts but apparently Thomsons arent using them next year. Jose behind pool bar is so helpful and lovely but limited english. Colleen & Ian Crothers, Belfast

Room Tip: ask for room 208 that was our room and it was fantastic... on any other on that level...

We recently came back from a week at the apartments and had a great time. I had read the reviews regarding the outbooking situation and so decided to pay the extra and book with Thomsons rather than through a smaller company with lower rates. Im glad i did do that however once we arrived a small family checking in at the same time were outbooked and then too had booked with Thomsons. I did speak with them towards the end of the holiday and they told they were out booked to another Thomson hotel in Puerto Santiago (im told not a great one) and returned the following day and were given complementary breakfast for the reminder of there trip.

Our room was very clean and pleasant with a view out towards the sea - most rooms have a sea view. the only issue we had was with the air con unit in our lounge not working correctly. other guests did have the same issues which was resolved.

The staff were friendly but spoke limited English.

Please be aware that although a snack bar is advertised, it isn't open all the time, you mostly have to ask someone on reception to take an order and someone would cook as and when they could.

Also other things to consider, the hill walk was exhausting in the day - im by no means the fittest person but i do take part in regular exercise classes and it was a struggle in the day with the heat for me. The town is small but quite pretty. We did notice that it was unusually quiet in the town but this was because the main hotel was closed for refurbishment.

overall though it was a great place to stay with enough restaurants and bars to satisfy most people. Thoroughly recommend heading to Route 66 to see Old dog new tricks (Sun-Thurs) for a night out. I went based on a recommendation on here and had a great time.

I don't really want to leave a brilliant review as we'd love to come back again and find it just as quiet and peaceful as it was in the week 3-10 July. However, I want Julian and his family to receive the credit they are due for such lovely apartments. I would agree wholeheartedly with "moosh52" and "LosManchester"(think we met them!)
The Thomson description says "limited sea view". On that basis, I was expecting something like a recent trip to Spain: lean-over-the-balcony-and-peer-round-a-corner kind of sea view, however, even arriving in 10pm darkness, we had the benefit of a 180-degree clear sea view, with the only 'limit' being a TV aerial on a nearby rooftop.
All 30 apartments are sea-facing, with the entrance doors and bedrooms on the rear side (which is also the shady side so keeps the bedroom nice and cool. They are superbly finished, and I mean I was absolutely amazed at the quality and cleanliness of the decor (always referring back to previous holidays - cracked tiles, cockroaches in the bathroom, poor lighting). These apartments have clearly had a fairly recent overhaul and are equipped with a decent kitchen (proper fridge with freezer section, oven, induction hob, microwave), though could maybe do with a few more utensils (obviously no more than 3 people allowed!). The cleaners visited at least every other day to change towels, toilet rolls, make the beds, sweep & mop.
I'd suggest going to the Transito supermarket (10 mins walk - almost down into town and uphill to your left) and stocking up, though with the exchange rate we really only had brunch there and meals out (try the San Remo Italian in Santiago - 15 mins walk around the coast path).
The pool is lovely and clean - shaded by the cliffs until about midday so we made the most of it with a long swim mid-morning before it got busier later in the day. The signs say it's open 10am-6pm but I was swimming until the sun was starting to go down (lovely time to swim) at around 7-8pm and nobody said anything.
One thing - don't expect the pool bar to open! This isn't actually a problem as Julian is usually in his little reception/shop which sells cold drinks & snacks and town is only a few minutes walk away if you want anything else to put in your fridge - with our apartment only 2 doors from the pool, we just kept cool beer in the fridge there for poolside consumption. He also has ice-creams hidden away if you ask nicely! The bar does open for breakfast (full English?) I think from 9-10.30am.
Anyway, we will DEFINITELY be back!

My husband & I stayed at the diamond apartments for 1 week from 5th July. The apartments are one of the best we have stayed in! Everywhere lovely & clean, amazing sea views! The owner cannot do enough to make your stay a memorable one. If your looking for excellent accommodation, peaceful, with amazing views this is the place for you! Would we return? Definitely !

We have just arrived back from a week in what can only be described as the best self catering apartments we have ever stayed in.
We arrived via Thomson transfer after dark and were, as you always are arriving at a resort in the dark, a bit dubious. The coach dropped us off at the bottom of the road leading up to the apartments after explaining the road was too tight for him to drive up. As soon as we reached the entrance, we could tell, albeit in the lit darkness, that this was going to be something special.
There was a note on reception informing us of our apartment number, which had been left open for us.
When we went in, we were gobsmacked. Clean, modern lines, beautifuly designed, a fully equipped kitchen and sleek appliances. The best was yet to come as we discovered in the morning- the spectacular view over the harbour. Amazing, uninterrupted views of the sea were, as far as we were aware, available to everyone staying there.
Then, there is the pool. Beautiful, modern and clean. The attention to detail in the design of the whole complex is second to none.
Then there are the staff. This is a relatively small, family run affair and you are made to feel like the most special guests in the world by the owner and his team. As mentioned in previous reviews, nothing is too much for them.
In addition to the apartment, the resort was lovely. This was our first visit to Tenerife and were wary having heard the reports of loud, all night resorts with a tendancy to cater for the lairy 'Brits Abroad'. Los Gigantes is a world away from this. Predominantly catering for couples, it was the perfect escape for us. Just the right amount of late night establishments, none of which were rowdy or unfriendly. We happened to be in the town on both the night when Spain won the Semi Finals of the Euros and, indeed the night they won the tournament. The atmosphere was electric. As England fans, we were invited to celebrate the wins with the incredibly patriotic Spanish fans having watched the Final in a bar we really wouldn't have thought of going to- The Highland Paddy. This is an 'Irish Bar', run by a team of some of the nicest people you could meet. The pub was full to the brim of a mixture of Spanish and British and everyone celebrated together. It was a really fantastic night.
A couple of other places to mention in the town... The best (we went through all the great restaurants we have eaten in back in the UK and we really do think this tops them all...) restaurant in the resort is by far El Rincon de Juan Carlos, which can be found down a small stepped path off the main square. We ate here on our first night and realised that nothing was going to beat the meal we had there. This is why we had to go back on our final night, to finish the holiday in style. The menu is exquisite (The black pudding ravioli would be my last meal on Earth... divine...), the service impeccable, the staff polite, friendly and generally great and the setting outside in the small courtyard is just perfect. It is, as we discovered the first night, pricey in comparison to the other places in the resort, but my God it is worth it. Don't expect chips on the side here, just amazing service and fabulous food.
Another place we ate at, funnily enough, next door, is a little place run by a lovely British couple, called CK's Bistro. This was great food, good ingredients and good service. It is a much more informal affair than the restaurant next door, but it ticks all the right boxes and offers great value for money. Definately worth a visit.
The last place (but by no means the last place you should visit in the town!) I will mention is again, a British run bar/restaurant called the Tipsy Terrace. We went here twice, for lunch as the evening restaurant is currently closed, and were not disappointed by the value for money, the beautiful setting and the cracking staff. The ladies who ran the bar were a delight. Friendly, warm and welcoming. We were made to feel right at home and had two fantastic lunches. We also made use of their crazy golf course following our first visit which was hilarious.
To conclude, the overall rating of the Diamond Apartments is definately NOT a reflection of the standard you should expect. They are the most beautiful, clean, well maintained apartments we have ever stayed in and we would most definately return. An absolute gem in this lovely resort.

Room Tip: As far as we are aware, EVERY room has some form of sea view. We were on the top (of 3) floors so ou...
