“A beautiful Rural Hotel in Tenerife”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014

After reading some of the reviews on this hotel we had to tell of our experience. We had a thoroughly great week at the El Nogal on halfboard basis. The food in the evening was excellent with a good choice. It is a rural hotel with wonderful views and great architecture. Expect heavy furniture and old beams. The spa and pool were very good to use ( outside pool a bit too cold last week). The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms comfortable and spacious. The only downfall was breakfast. There was plenty of choice for the cold buffet but the hot food was not very uninspiring and cold. However the coffee from the machine was great. If returning to Tenerife we couldnt think of anywhere we would rather stay even though the first night it wasnt easy to find!!

Overall,we enjoyed our stay at El Nogal. A vehicle is a must unless all you want to do is walking or cycling. Not well sign posted ( we went straight past arriving in the dark) and side roads can be steep.
Hotel building is full of character so don't expect stainless steel & glass.Entrance lobby has a wonderful high ceiling and is the only area you can use Wi Fi which is a bit inconvenient when all the seats are taken by people using the net.
Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English, however, we thought in the dining and breakfast areas staff were a little thin on the ground but did a brilliant job without loosing their cool. Natalia, who usually waited on for us was lovely and delighted our mealtimes.
Dining at the hotel is a bit pricey, but hey, hotel prices are. We went out and discovered other restaurants in the area some nights, but you needed that transport.
The outdoor pool was too cold to use, but the indoor pool was great and for two visits we enjoyed sole use. What a pity there is no changing facilities in the building, getting changed in the toilets is not the best experience. Also, only one jacuzzi working? Small issues to attend to an otherwise magnificent facility.
One other issue is the lighting levels in guest bedrooms or lack of. Clearly their has had to be energy savings, but, at least one light of a decent wattage would be be helpful in the bathroom.
Would recommend a visit but needs some management injecting to the running. Verdict. 8/10

We have just recently returned from a week's stay in January and cannot rate the establishment highly enough.
We found the hotel to be a very unexpected delight. Upon arriving in Tenerife we weren't too sure of the location as we ventured further and further up the hills into a very foggy and cold area, however the hotel (we had a Superior room) is beautiful and the views are truly amazing.
The sauna, Jacuzzi and inside pool is a fantastic way to start the day before having a lovely breakfast.
We found the staff to be friendly and extremely helpful. We unfortunately had our bag pinched while in Playa des Christiano and the staff at the hotel were amazing, in fact a lovely Irish women found our bag and the hotel helped to organise for her to meet with us with our belongings (huge thanks to all).
We have come to this website to re-book for August when the weather should be great and we cannot wait to return to this charming and beautiful hotel.

Got a very nice room, staff was helpful and I had some hours at the beautiful pool.
Sauna, jacuzzi and pool very nice.
Didnt eat in the evening. Wanted to have a drink but the staff was involved in some kind of arguing and didnt notice me. No drink.
Breakfast was ok but only one staff
and she was to busy to handle all people. Empty plates etz and a lot of thing missing.
Very nice hotel, but pricewise they need to fix some mentioned details

Booked in for first room (we upgraded!) stank of wood preservative and chemicals with no view. The upgraded room was huge with a fantastic shower but way too dark for reading in bed. Wi fi
is only available in lobby and is inconsistent. The restaurant is overpriced with a waitress who was
surly and really unpleasant for our whole stay. The outside pool is too cold at this time of year but the inside pool was great and the sauna was also (when working!) You need a car if you stay here and We were glad we didn't book a hotel near the coast. The breakfast was good (ask for cafe con leche if you don't like the machine) and generous. Great shower in our upgraded room and
the male receptionist was very friendly with a smile. Lose the chemicals, train the staff, lose the waitress, improve the lighting and wi-fi and it would be close to a 4****.

Room Tip: Top floor with a view (ask for)

Arrived by foot and were told hotel had jacuzzi & sauna, so booked in for 1 night. In morning went down with towels and neither were working. Felt cheated and very disappointed as not had a sauna for a few years. Otherwise large room, nice location and breakfast ok. Wish they had been honest about sauna. 80€ a night for 2 including buffet breakfast, not cheap by Tenerife standards

we've been staying in El Nogal 2 nights mostly for a very convenient access to the national park. The house is very beautiful, the rooms ok. But, you have to know that if chemical cleaning products upset you, it's better to have a bit of time to open the windows before going to bed. In the morning, you'll have the unpleasant surprise of a very poor breakfast. Nevertheless, the inside pool is good and the jacuzzi very nice.

Room Tip: AVOID the rooms above the reception. Very noisy.
