“A hidden treasure”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

A lovely little typical Canarian restaurant with a rustic outside terrace with views over the village.
We went on a Saturday when they do a barbecue as well as the main menu. We had barbecued chicken, garbanzos (chickpea stew), warm salted almonds and Papas Negras ( lovely little potatoes which have a very dark skin and yellow flesh) accompanied by red and green mojo sauce. The local white wine was also delicious.
Make sure you go on clear day to appreciate the views as you drive up there.

“Perfection in Casa Pana”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

We had a fabulous evening meal here - all of the food was fantastic, and the owner was very attentive in waiting on us. Roasted cheese, rabbit, fish, and the desserts were to die for! You could not fault anything - it was all 10/10, and a very reasonable price. We enjoyed it so much so that we booked for our final holiday meal here. However, if you intend to eat late, you can't, closed at 7pm.

And then there was our next visit........ :(

“A very disappointing lunch after a great day visiting Teide”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

I rarely write less than favourable reviews but unfortunately feel that in the interests of fairness I should describe our experiences of this restaurant.

It was on the basis of the mostly favourable reviews here, my wife and I headed for this restaurant after driving from the north to view Teide and its surrounding terrain. We were shown upstairs to one of the small rooms - ours had just three tables. As soon as we had sat, we were asked what drinks we would like. These were served promptly. After choosing the roasted cheese for a shared starter, we asked the waitress about the main course options. My wife cannot eat food containing peppers so we wanted to know whether the goat stew would be appropriate for her. We were told that every dish contained peppers except for the fish, which she chose. I had the rabbit, receiving the warning that it was spicy. The starter arrived and was enjoyed - an unusual dish with slices of goat cheese, served with honey and green mojo. Our main course arrived before the starters had been removed - we were feeling less than relaxed at this point. I found the rabbit to be satisfactory at best - the sauce was fine and flavoursome but the rabbit was not particularly lean. The tender and meaty sections of the rabbit seemed to be missing. My wife's fish was a massive disappointment. It was presented as a slab of steaming flesh, with only mint leaves and a couple of tiny chillies for garnish. The fish was tasteless and watery - it was barely edible. Rather than have an unpleasant conversation at the table, I went to the bar and reception area to express my disappointment with the food. The waitress adopted a less than concerned attitude. I was asked whether my wife wanted anything else to eat, but at this point her appetite had gone. The waitress told us that she would come to clear our table. As she did, another diner tried to attract her attention. This was greeted with the terse response of 'wait a minute'. Needless to say, we did not stop for desserts or coffee. The price of the fish was removed from the bill. Even without this, we felt that the bill did not reflect value for the quality of food in particular and the dining experience in general.

Perhaps we were unlucky - I hope other diners have a better experience than we did.

“Taste of the Canaries”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

We found Casa Pana almost by chance as we wandered around the village of Vilaflor looking for a restaurant. Although a small village it has a strange layout with significant changes in altitude, so be prepared!

The service was reasonable but really we came for traditional food and weren't disappointed. Between the two of us we enjoyed escaldones (a sort of floury porridge-like mixture called gofio with pork meat), roasted goats cheese, and the two specialities of the restaurant - goat and rabbit. The portions were large and too much for lunch but this wasn't reflected in the price. One oddity - the waitress made a point of warning people some dishes were "quite spicy" when they weren't at all.

The outside terrace is lovely - get a table there if you can, as inside it's very dark.

A word of warning - our hire car lock was attacked while we were eating in the restaurant even though there was nothing inside for them to steal. This isn't the fault of the restaurant of course, we'd parked elsewhere in Vilaflor. Just something to be aware of.

“Great food, cosy atmosphere! ”
Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

The food was delicious, exactly what we wanted after our long trip trough Teide. We were so full, so it was not in out intensions to take a dessert but we changed our mind by seeing them. We didn't regret, they were perfect.
