We stayed at the apartment in late Jan and the weather was unseasonably warm and sunny. Don’t expect to do much sunbathing on the balcony at that time of year though. The sun doesn’t come near the balcony until 3pm and is down at 6.40. Nice stay though, the apartment was clean and well laid out. Internet connection was dead and didn’t work but the TV has a variety of English and Spanish speaking channels. Worth the money especially if there’s two couples sharing or a family of 4. Facilities need a bit of TLC and refurbishment but that shouldn’t put you off. Local restaurants are cracking (especially the wee Tapas bar hidden behind the complex on the path to the beach). Sit on the balcony, sup a cool G&T and watch the World go by (it's very interesting). Would recommend.
We thought the location was great, right on the harbour side and no steep hills to climb on returning at night. Also, we liked being really close to the public Lido which has a good cafe. However, the apartment was a little tired and the shower could do with an upgrade. Only two of us in an apartment for four so we had plenty of room but the cups, glasses etc could do with replacing. The wi-fi was excellent but TV not so good. There were some English programs but we kept losing the picture and sound. All in all, we had a really good, cheap holiday,
We have just returned and really just wanted to let people know how good this apartment is. Great location looking onto the harbour in a lovely location. This was my first time in Puerto Santiago and really didn't know what to expect. Lovely village far removed from the concrete jungles elsewhere. There are loads of eating places and pubs and a Lido just across the street from the apartment.. The bus links to other parts of the island are great with direct buses to Puerto de la Cruz and Las Americas, Just great.
After getting fed up of the costs of single room supplements in the all inclusive hotels I decided to try a private apartment. As I travel with my 84 year old Father, I have to take many things into consideration.
• Firstly is it accessable and close to local entertainment and amenities?
This apartment certainly is, situated overlooking the marina front, there is a supermarket, restaurants, bars and gift shops directly underneath, and you can watch the marina come to life each morning from the balcony. The town centre is close by, accessable up a rather steep hill, however this was manageable for my Father at 84. If you need to travel further afield Taxi's are parked close to the entrance of the marina. I recommend a taxi to Playa del Arena, only 4 euros, and the beach there is beautiful, it is a pleasant walk back following the coast path. Closer to the apartment there is the most beautiful pool and cafe across from the complex main entrance, very reasonable prices for breakfast with views of the ocean and spectacular waves crashing against the harbour wall and cliffs, very entertaining! We visited every day! For evening meal directly underneath the apartment I recommend the La Paella Tapas Bar, the owner and staff are exceptionally nice and seemed to really care about how your stay is going. In the town square, there are many traditional spanish restaurants, a handful of 'british' bars that focus on the typical football, and TV all day, and typical holiday cabaret, this type of bar is not for us so we stayed at the more tradtional spanish bars throughout most of the holiday. We did however visit The Corner Bar on a few occasions as one of the owners (Dave and his partner Jan) went out of their way to make us welcome. So this apartment is situated in an ideal location for our needs.
• Is the apartment comfortable ?
The photographs dont do this apartment justice, although it is dated, and could do with a re-vamp it is very comfortable and spacious. It does not have 3 bathrooms as stated in the original description, it has 1 shower room containing shower, loo, and bidet, and 1 loo with a sink. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the front bedroom is exceptionally pretty with window to the front and side, beautiful views from both. The kitchen is well equipped with oven, hob, fryer, grill, large fridge freezer, microwave, many utensils, except I could not find a cork screw, so I bought one and left it there for the next guests! I also could not find a kettle! Not a problem though as I used the microwave for our morning cuppa! There is an abundance of hot water at all times of the day for showers. (I once stopped in hotel where I had no hot water for 2 weeks, so this has become a thing of high importance to me wherever I travel)! There is a laundry area with a washing machine at the back of the apartment, however it is strange looking thing, and I could not figure out how it worked! There are plenty of towels and bedding supplied.
The lounge is large, comfortable large sofa, large dining table, TV with spanish and the main british channels for those who prefer to stay in and catch up with the soaps! We did not, we went out each evening. The balcony is large, with the most lovely views of the cliffs, the marina and the island of La Gomera, cannot stress enough how perfect this location was for us. However, do not expect that stopping on the marina is quiet, work starts at the boat yard early, the fishermen head out early each morning, and the very large waves crashing against the harbour wall with the boats tied up against each jetty can make a fair bit of noise of a night. This did not bother us one iota, but for those wishing for peace and quiet, they need to be aware. The complex itself is very pleasant, many are residents, with lovely plants and flowers, to the entrances, sadly our plants had died making the entrance look a bit scruffy.
All in all, I would stay here again, it was good value for the price we paid.
