“Good location but needs a refurb.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

This is a cheap/mid range seaside hotel in a good location, but in need of some investment.

We particularly liked the extensive sea view from our large balcony. The large pool looked inviting, but was too cold for most people in early February, even though the weather was very good.

Our room was clean and functional but rather basic. The whole complex shows signs of heavy use and is in need of refurbishment. For instance, the wash basin in our bathroom was cracked and (although the cleaners worked hard and did their best), the floors and paintwork were marked and stained.

Though officially there is no on site parking, this didn't seem to deter anyone from parking outside in a restricted area, and there were spaces elsewhere nearby.

We took half board as the offer seemed good value. More school dinners than haute-cuisine, much of the (repetitive) fare obviously came from catering cans. Nevertheless, there was plenty of fresh bread, cold meat, cereal and fresh local oranges at breakfast and with careful selection, a reasonable meal could usually be constructed. (Not everyone selected carefully however, and if burger and chips is your thing, you'll be very happy). You could eat as much as you liked.

The hotel provides children's entertainment and evening shows, and seems to be used by German and Scandinavian tour companies as well as individuals. All in all, it's reasonable value for money and in a far better sea front location than most of the more expensive places nearby. But don't expect the Ritz.

We had a fantastic time in this hotel . It is the first time we went on an all inclusive. The buffet had an excellent choice at all 3 meals and dishes were clearly named in various languages. The staff were friendly and very professional and the organisation at the bars and restaurant was to a very high standard. This is a very clean resort. Taxis and buses are very reasonable so it is easy to get around. There are some good restaurants a few minutes away should you wish a change of scenery. Playa arena about a 7 minute walk is close by and it has a beautiful beach with some incredible views. This little town is worth going to as is Los Gigantes also nearby. It only costs 3 euros return for 2 people to Los Gigantes. My 84 year old mother was very well treated by all staff and she just loved it here. We would come back again due to the hospitality and kindness of all staff. The weather is just amazing at this time of year with daily average temperatures of 25c

Room Tip: The balcony rooms have a fantastic view looking over the pool and beach.

Just back this morning from a week of weather heaven ! +16/18 at night and 23/25 daytime. Had read reviews here before booking and went with the average "ok" vote as by far the best price for a solo traveller.
Hotel room was large, ground floor by the pool and the most basic I've ever stayed in. However the kingsize bed was more than adequate !
Reception and bar staff superbly friendly, my basic Spanish probably an advantage !
Very glad to be only b&b, fine choice of food at breakfast but all the "hot" food "NOT" - even the horrid dispenser coffee. DO NOT EVEN THINK OF GOING ALL INCLUSIVE !
Very surprised to attend a flying owl & eagles show in the tiny 30sq ft bar with about 10ft ceiling !!
Very good Spanish bar/cafe aprox 300m left (Popeyes) Excellent (limited) menu and "local" pricing eg max €6 for freshly made, well topped pizzas. Amazing view across to La Gomera.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms "cavelike" and very basic but you have a better chance of one of the 20 or...

had fabulous week 6-13th January 2013 temp 70-75 degrees ...never been on a holiday like this before and really needed a good rest, some sun and read my book ...got that and more !
hotel was great more like having an apartment 1 bed with twin beds and sitting room where son (18yrs) slept and a large terrace with fantasic uninterupted views of the sea
everyday when we returned the room after a day wondering along the coast the apartments had been cleaned and beds made,
we were half board ( also never done before) the food catered for all nationality's and tastes. The staff worked so hard were so cheerful and nothing was a problem ... pool and pool side was re cleaned every morning and a relaxing safe place to be ...water was cold,(but not as cold as when i swim in Wales in the summer) but an enjoyable cool down as the sun was very warm and bright
location was great especially for a first trip. It is a quiet and stunningly beautiful area . I was great to go wandering.... to the right takes you to Los Gigantes ...go to the left and follow the coast path to Alcala where we saw turtles in the sea !

Room Tip: all room have amazing sea views

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

I stayed here for 5 nights in November 2012 as a middle-aged solo traveller looking for somewhere quiet for some winter sunshine, and was well satisfied. The hotel is built in a U shape around the swimming pool and looking out to the sea with La Gomera in the distance so it's nice for sunsets. Arriving at night it was slightly confusing as the staircases in each block are on the back side of the U but they are of course labelled and reception give you a little map. The room was fine, perhaps a bit small for a double room but quite adequate, the bathroom was perfectly clean and I enjoyed sitting on my balcony with my book and a glass of wine, watching the sun go down.
I thought the food was very good with plenty of choice both at breakfast and in the evening (I was on half-board). Two or three nights a week the dinner is themed - there was Canarian cuisine one night, maybe Chinese or Indian another night. I'm surprised that one or two reviewers say it wasn't labelled and they didn't know what they were eating, it all seemed to be labelled when I was there.
Staff were pleasant and friendly. I didn't use the hotel bar but there was some entertainment on in there some nights.
The pool was very cold but OK once you were in. The weather was better than I had expected for mid November - around 22 to 25 degrees C. I think it would be too hot for me in the summer but this was just great for a bit of sunbathing and for walking up and down the coast. I walked to Los Gigantes a couple of times and took a boat trip to see the pilot whales and dolphins. Later in the week it got a bit windy and the red flag was flying at the beach a couple of days. You could get buses to other parts of the island from a stop near the hotel.
It's about 10 minutes walk from the hotel into the main part of town where the bars and shops are (it's not a big town) - but there is a good supermarker halfway there, and a small one even closer in the opposite direction.
Look out for the large natural pool if you walk from the town towards Los Gigantes. You follow a sign down a little lane and then down some steps,to the pool. where you can bathe in sea water. And I had a nice lunch one day at the Fisherman's Inn, Calle Agustin Leon Gonzalez, outside with a great view.

Room Tip: For disabled, visitors, ground floor rooms have access from poolside.

Just returned from a weeks stay here Jan 6th - 13th, Hotel is very basic and offers a small bar, swimming pool, pool bar & a buffet style restaurant. Overall I enjoyed my stay here however the buffet needs improvement as it was similar food everyday and all tasted bland. The bar staff are very slow especially at the pool bar as the barmaid also has to serve in the restaurant, sometimes waiting 10 minutes at the bar. Stayed here all inclusive and the choice of drinks on offer was very good; beer, wines, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks these cannot be faulted. The entertainment on offer is top class and the hotel tries hard to always offer entertainment day or night. We watched a very funny parrot show, an eagle show and also took part in bingo and man vs woman competition. I would return to Hotel Flamingo but not all inclusive.
