“Friendly and helpful staff, fantastic views, but 4 star? More like a good 3 star”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

This is our ninth time here. The food is good, I have had similar at good 3 star hotels though and better at other 4 star hotels...But always something for everyones taste - salads, fish, meat, verggies etc. Lots of gateau and ice cream. We have stayed as a mature couple and also with our daughter and young grandaughter - who loved it. The kids club is international, but on the occasion I complained that my little one couldn't undertand the leader this was soon remedied. We now go in Jan when mostly mature couples are there - very few kids, lots staying for long periods as we have done in the past.

NEGATIVES:
-The rooms are very average, Standard rooms are adequate, but the corridors put me in mind of Butlins. Superior rooms are better, but you do have pay a lot more for them. Pillows are hard. I have had similar and even better rooms at 3 star hotels, where I have paid a lot less.
- The evening entertainment is appalling and has got increasing worse each year we have been here. Mostly animation team, quizzes etc. Over 2 weeks we saw a few outside acts, but non were exceptional apart from the mongolian acrobats. Old Dogs were good, but all entertainment finishes about 10.30pm then if you're lucky the guitarist may be playing in the reception bar for a while extra. Fine if you want to sit and play cards or chat to your other half... I can do that at home! If you are going All Inc and like evening entertainment then allow extra money for going out and taxi fares or car hire. There are a couple of noisy bars over the road, but we went to Hotel Playa Arena, Thomson Los Gigantes and The Harbour Club who all provide much better entertainment. Taxi cost us about 4 euro each way inc tip.
- All Inc does not incude everything - only a few of the meals in the pool bar are free and lots of drinks are extra. Starts after breakfast and finishes at 11pm and waiters are not so quick to serve you drinks as they are if you are half board and paying for drinks. However, we didn't need to have food there as we had plenty at our meals in the restaurant, but if you do want to eat in Pool bar instead of restaurant be aware of this fact.

POSITIVES:
- Staff are amongst the most friendly we have met anywhere and nothing is too much trouble
- Views are spectacular - but sea view rooms are a must
- Very relaxing, informal and friendly environment
- Daytime entertainment is excellent and the animation team work hard and are friendly and accommodating - led by 'Jose who llistens to what the clients like and is very proactive in trying to accommodate everyone's requests. We love the shuffleboard and sjoelback.

Why do we go back? - the simple reason is we have met and made so many fantastic friends from all over Europe - many of whom we keep in contact with by email. Most of us go back every year and some have been going for 20 years or more... For us it's like catching up and having fun with old friends - including the staff. However, after the appalling evening entertainment and the fact we can get a cheaper deal at better hotels is making us wonder, will we return next year? - we still have to decide. It would be sad not to meet up with old friends. I do hope the management will return the entertainment programme to the higher quality it was 6-7 years ago.
- Now to the gastro bug, whenever it's been at this hotel it's been all over the Island and mostly brought over by holdiday makers from UK and elsewhere! I don't feel it is the hotel's fault - they have disinfectant hand gel everywhere.
I would be happy to answer any questions anyone has.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view. Rooms overlooking the street and Route 66 are Noisy at night. Standard rooms overl...

Having booked a room with a sea view, we were given a ground floor room with a view of the security fence, a broken chair, a leaking shower and outside our balcony was a petanque pitch where every afternoon from 3 - 6pm a group of voluble Frenchmen sat on our balcony and played a very noisy game. I complained every day and half way through the week we were moved to a lovely room with a spectacular sea view. On talking to other people, we realised this is a policy of the hotel - to put people in the ground floor rather grotty rooms and then moved them after a few days if they complained. It is such a shame - it's a lovely hotel with very nice staff, good food, wonderful pools and an absolutely stunning setting, and we will go back there but only if we are absolutely assured of a room with a proper sea view. We did go there on a 'package' and wondered if people who book direct are given precedent on the better rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms from the second floor upwards and for a sea view.

What a super Hotel in a Wonderful setting.Very clean and the staff helpful and friendly. My wife and I have just returned from a 4 day "All Inclusive" break here and loved it.Views are great and the area not too bad although in the high season I believe, very busy.Good local walks all along the sea wall and into Los Gigantes.Super food and plenty off room too take in the sun.Like most hotels, you do pay a deposit for Pool Towels and safe key,but this is refunded when you check out and hand back .Great local buses to Los Christianos.Only downfall, bathroom needed to be upgraded( A little tired). Will be returning to this hotel again.Thank you Barcelo for making this a wonderful break.

Room Tip: Rooms facing NW do not get the sun at all in January but are quieter with super views.West facing ro...

This is the second time within 12 months that we have stayed here and this time it really was amazing!! Great food. Lovely staff. Room a little basic but fine. On my birthday a bottle of champagne and a birthday cake were left in our room which was such a nice touch.

We didn't get to any of the entertainment in the evenings as we ADORE Route 66, the great bar over the road with live music every night.

The only criticism we'd have would be that the outdoor dining area should be totally non-smoking and should have a bigger sign explaining that guests have to be shown to their tables by a waiter. Both of these things would avert any unpleasantness between guests.

But all in all, we loved our stay here. Just wonder what we'd have to do to be offered champagne on arrival like other guests? This hasn't been offered to us on either visit. Maybe it's only for specific holiday firms or for those that book directly with the hotel? Never mind. We'll still be back!!!

Room Tip: Make sure to request a room above the 2nd floor to avoid people walking past your window.

we saw this hotel last year and decided we would love to stay here. Our flight and transfers were horrendous and the initial check in at 1am in the morning efficient if perfuncatory
Our room was basic, I thnk lacking wardrobe space for a four star, also the beds are very hard! we were on the shadow side of the hotel,so though the balcony had great views we rarely used it as we prefered the absolutely stunning views from the swimming pools area.Whoever designed this hotel deserves an award the views are truly lovely and the swimming pool area is itself a joy to use
The service is second to none.Staff are friendly and efficient .The food is very good but we have also stayed at their sister hotels ,the varadero in playa arena and the jandia mar in jandia and the food in those hotels was also excellent. However we did find there is far less queuing at the santiago and the service far supeior .We had lovely weather throughout after a few hours of cloud on our first morning

Room Tip: high floor overlooking the swiming pool

Excellent hotel. Friendly staff. Excellent weather.Food as good as usual and excellent choice of drinks on the All Inclusive option.

When the entertainment is finished (or not your cup of tea) go over to Route 66 to see group Old Dogs, New tricks. They are brilliant and go on until 12am.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an odd number as this gets the sun and a fantastic view of the sunset over the i...

Check in was a bit hap hazzrd. They forgot to tell us you have to put a 12 euro deposit down for the pool towels and forgot to mention you need to pay for a key to use the safe. But this was soon forgot when the room given was very nice and the views were amazing. Got to the pool and there were still plenty of choice for sun beds. Even though we got to the pool at 3pm and the hotel had lots of guests. Usual problems as at most hotels. Guest put their towels on the beds early in the morning and do not use them until later in the day. Sometimes only for an hour.
All the hotel staff were excellent.Always polite and smiling and very helpful. Food at all mealtimes was very good and plent of choice. There was never any waiting at the buffets, the staff always made sure the trays were full. We stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday, like it so much we are planing to go back for the easter weekend.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, but the best views are from the rooms overlooking the pools towards La Go...
