We Spent 11 Nights here From 21/10/12 - 1/11/12. and we had a wonderful time. The hotel was clean & well looked after, the food was a joy to eat,the staff so helpful especially Carlos in the reception bar.
We had 7 lovely sunny days but I have to say we had 4 very wet rainy days, however we were not put off, the entertainment staff did their best to keep the adults and kids entertained.
We will be going back to this hotel and would recommend it to anybody.

Room Tip: Our room number was 224 Fantastic views of the sea and Los Giganties.

We found this hotel to be excellent value for money. The quality and choice of food was exceptional with many choices to satisfy any taste. Being all inclusive most certainly added to the value of the holiday. We had no problem with obtaining sun loungers every day and the pool bar service for food & drink was 1st class as were the 3 other bars in the hotel.

We would definately return, and recommend this hotel.

Spent seven days at Barcelo Santiago over Xmas and New Year. Paid around £3K for three of us for all-in with Thomas Cook. Never been offered a glass of water on board for this kind of money, but its a different ballgame.

To cut a story short, here is our review in descending order from positive to negative.
1. Location. One of the best available. Proximity to Los Gigantes with its water activities and rural northwest part of Tenerife. Excellent views from the balcony. No beaches as such though, a short strip of sand is about 200m away. Rated at +5 with no problem.
2. Food and service. Great choice of dishes and drinks generally. No recycled food. Prompt waiters. Will wipe away all your plates if you snooze or wander away for a second. Congestion in a buffet for limited outdoor tables. The coffee machine is off during launches and dinners. Complete nonsense based on their understanding of efficient turnaround. +3 here.
3. Entertainment. Nothing fascinating. No horse/camel riding or similar. A little bit of shooting from uncalibrated air rifle in the morning and weird stage performance in the evening. Three small and shallow swimming pools suitable for daredevils and winter swimmers only. Jacuzzi a bit too chilly to be classified as a such. +3
4. All-inclusive service. Nothing is included but a food. No SPA procedures or gym, no keys for a safe, no access to other amenities. Steady +2.
5. Internet and TV. No internet at all. You will be given a daily allowance of half an hour for a wifi session in a reception hall. Don't panic, you won't manage to browse more than two webpages anyway due to high traffic. Next to reception they have two desktops which will give you 8 (sic!) minutes of agonizing browsing for 1 euro. We've counted 75 TV channels, but none was in English. 0 rating here for a complete insulation from a civilization.
6. Hotel management and rating. The Xmas period is known to be the busiest period, so why on earth all stairwells were blocked by painters casually touching up the stained walls? It was mentioned somewhere else the rooms and hotel itself look tired. Let's say, it was knackered.
While most of communal areas are kept in generally good order, the rooms and level of decoration is comparable to the one of council flats in London. A slide door to a balcony wouldn't lock up. No privacy is offered on your balcony. An old shower tap got stuck somewhere between hot and cold causing the problems with establishing the desired temperatures. No double beds are available. 3 stars would be more appropriate here.
7. New Year's surprise. Gala dinner. Everyone is squeezed into two indoor restaurants, all tables are stacked together, all seats are assigned in a way every German sits next to a German, Russian to Russian and those with exotic nationalities are left on their own somewhere in a far corner. There was no menu, no drink cards, no choice given. Just distressful uncertainty, two bottles of local red and white and unrecognizable faces in front of you. We had to escape that festival of communist ideology for a glass of bubbly shortly after they've started to serve absolutely identical dishes with dubious content to everyone.

Our verdict. Under new management the hotel will be given a second breath.
At the moment it is overpriced and not worth the money paid. Generous three stars is an adequate rating for this hotel.
Don't let your well-earned holiday to be marred by their interpretation of New Year's Eve and other key events.
Explore the island instead, go on a hike to Masca village or dive in warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean at the cliffs, go for paragliding in tandem with jolly Belgians or taste a fried rabbit in one of the rural restaurants. The choice is yours.

Room Tip: Try the rooms on a fifth level in a range of 500-530. These are certainly the best, closest to pools...

ok, room first , a bit tired round the edges ,great sea view room, very clean, only sky news ,&cnn English tv .lovely pool and bar area.all staff well trained and friendly. the worst bit about this hotel is the food ,a very unadventurous menu and pretty bland e.g asparagus soup was clearly catering packet soup, and to serve cheese on toast triangles for dinner is just a joke ,everything is made to a budget and as it is not a cheepo hotel ,this scrimping is totally unnecessary. sorry barcelo I;m only being honest ,look there was a big choice of food, but what we want is a nice Spanish paella with seafood and prawns or a nice steak on the griddle ,you know what I;m saying,so give that head chef a boot up the backside and give him some money to spend. so,sort out the rooms and the food and you would have a good hotel, unfortunately I therefore cannot recommend this hotel, sorry

We have spent a week at Barcelo Santiago in December, and it was a wonderful experience. From the greeting at the reception where receptionnist was exceptianallyt efficient in meeting all our demands we felt our holiday was to a good start. The hotel from the far up looks like a cruise boat, and our room 820 was in the back of this "boat", overseeing Los Gigantes. We enjoyed the beauty of the sea and dramatic sceenery of mountains. We also could see La Tiede, a beautiful volcanic mountain that we have visited one of the days.
In the morning we were surprised so nicely, there is Cava served for breakfast! Nice way to start the day! The breakfast buffet was full of variety and different things to try.

A little strange arrangement with the bathroom, with glass wall! No, you can not really see in from the room, but if the light is on, you can see the siluette, so I will let the reader judge if its a good or bad for them :o).

We spent very good time in a few afternoons on the balcony, with a bouttle of Rose to share (£2 at local shop across the road). And make sure you buy water in the same shop, its really cheap there, and tap water is not drinkable. There is a tea/coffee pot in the room and also a little fridge to keep your beer (Buy it at the same shop) cold.

Our only disappointment was the fact that you can not get any drink (not even water!) for free at lunch or supper (we had half board). And you ca NOT get any coffee even if you pay, they send you to the bar, and coffee there really is no good! In fact, I wish there was an option to have B&B only and benefit from a variety of restaurants the Puerto Santiago has to offer.

All in all, despite bad coffee, we will be back to this hotel for sure!

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor and up have very good vews. Rooms 819 to 821 benefit from both, sea and mount...

I was greated with a flute of bubbles and a warm reception. It was lovely. The hotel had a mix of couples, singles and families. I have never felt so relaxed and safe, as I was traveling alone. The food was very good and the staff waiting on you and preparing the food are by far the BEST! They worked very hard and they kept a smile for each person they greeted or served. The surrounding city was excellent for walking and there were several tours that could be arranged. All of mine were arranged on short notice. So, if you are not into planning every detail before you go, you will still be able to enjoy a last minute booking. The SPA was also a pleasure. Very clean and accommodating. Go to their web site for more details.

Very friendly and professional staff, pool and restaurant are lovely and the views are amazing. This is our second visit and we felt the rooms needed a refresh. The hotel was busy and the weather was hot and sunny. Good bus service and a nice little stroll to the harbour round Crab Island is easily accessible from the hotel.

Room Tip: "Ask for sunny room as well as sea view"
