“Nice hotel - shame about the location”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

We went to this hotel using our Tesco vouchers so I feel I am reviewing the hotel differently than if I had paid the £800 for the week. Nice hotel. Think it looks a lot nicer in the pictures - esp the rooms - we stayed in the superior sea view & yes it was nice but I wouldn't class it as a superior room - was quite basic. The food was good & the staff in general were all very pleasant (contrary to what I had read on Trip Advisor). The main downside for me was the lack of sunbeds & umbrellas. It was so hot when we went that you needed an umbrella & there just weren't enough to go round. This meant you either had to get up really early or you had to sneak towels on at night - not ideal at all. Also I wasn't that impressed with the resort. Not much going on & the bars that were busy were Irish type bars with Karaoke (not really our cup of tea). We walked from our hotel into Los Gigantes - I accept that we didn't go at the busiest time (last week on June) but it was dead. We would walk past restaurants with just 1 old couple in it! Not atmosphere or buzz at all - not sure if we went at the wrong time but it has put me off going back to this area again. Never been to tenerife before & not sure if I would go back for anything other than a week of summer sun! In general though the hotel was good - the setting & views are absolutely stunning! I would go back for this alone!

Just returned from a fantastic week at the Barcelo Santiago. We travelled as a young family, with an 8 month old baby. As mentioned by other reviews, the transfer was just over an hour due to some stop offs, however we were greeted with a lovely glass of bubbly which helped us get into the holiday mood immediatly. The reception staff were very helpful throughout our stay and the view from our room was beautiful (we were on the 4th floor). There was a cot in our room which was comfortably made up, baby had no problem at all sleeping in it after a long days play in the pool. We did have to pay extra for a kettle which I did think was a shame due to the standard of hotel, I had expected there to be one in the room. The room itself was nice, maybe if I were to be really fussy then the bathroom could have done with an update and the t.v was a bit small! We stayed on an all inclusive basis and found the food to be lovely, fresh fish, meat, selection of veg, pasta's, fruit and desserts all very nice. We did bring baby food but he always had breakfast from the restaraunt and on occasion lunch, and I think if I haden't of packed him some food that it would have been o.k for him to always eaten in. You can also eat by the pool at the pool bar, as well as a little self service drinks bar if you just want to get a drink without waiting to be served by a waiter. There was a little baby/kids pool, and due to the schools going back there wasn't very many other children about so we often had full use of the baby pool to ourselves. Always a sunbed if you are early enough! All in all we had a great time and if you are going to this hotel then i'm sure you will do to.

This hotel has some highs and lows, but in general I enjoyed my stay.

Positive:

Very pleasant and efficient reception staff.

Glass of Cava on arrival.

Rooms have been refurbished.

Good selection of international tv channels ( BVN, Sky, BBC, German, Polish, Spanish,...)

Breakfast is nice and there is a good choice of products.

Lunch / dinner is from buffet restaurant and decent. Good choice, food not always hot. Quality not always consistent.

Great to be able to dine outside. Sometimes a little queue, but well worth it.

Stunning views.

Always enough sun loungers, even if hotel was full.

Bottled Coke, Fanta... In restaurant

Less positive:

12€ deposit per beach towel, 2€ if you want to exchange towel.

Not all drinks are included in the all in formula (only very few cocktails for example).

3€/day to rent safe in room

Rooms on ground floor have a lot of people passing by ( public walkway), rooms on 5th floor (ours 553) have a lot of noise from the animation, which usually starts at 22:00 and lasts until midnight. Not good if you want an early night.

Some of the male waiters in bar and restaurant are unfriendly and even rude.

The so called beach is a very small stretch of black sand.

White swimwear turned green in swimming pool, didn't disappear after washing.

Overall, perfect place if you want a relaxing holiday next to pool.

I and my wife stayed at this Hotel for 7 nights from 2 Sept. We normally holiday twice a year and made it a written rule not to visit the same place twice, but having been to this hotel we found that it had everything we were looking for. Quite around the pool. The all inclusive deal was far better that we had experienced before. The beer was San Miguele and was given in bigger measures that we have had in the past. The waiter service was very good and no tipping was expected. The food was good and plentiful with varied choice. In all the view to the Los Gigantes Cliffs was breath taking, especially when you were looking and them from the hotel's restuarant window while eating your meals!!. Outside the hotel are various shops and restaurants and a walk to the port is 20 mintues away, but make sure that the sun is not out as it got very hot! The only downside was, to be honest, was our room, it was a bit tatty and dated. If anyone from Barcelo is reading this it was room 212, but on saying this it was very clean and hands up to the cleaners. In all I would fully recommend you stay at this Hotel, it is well worth the money. We will be seriously thinking about going here again next year.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a room with a sea view. Most of the rooms at the hotel are sea facing but ther...

We travelled as a family with my partners 15year old daughter at peak season. We had read all the reviews and decided to email the hotel regarding getting a room on the fifth floor. We were sent a generic reply but when we got to the hotel, after a two hour journey (it would have taken 40mins but we had several stops) they had taken notice and we were given a room with a fantastic view over Los Gigantes. The hotel was well kept, clean and the receptionist staff were helpful and friendly.
On arrival to the hotel there was a queue and people were being given a glass of champagne. I am not sure why but we didnt receive a glass......not a good begining!!
We were seen within 10 mins and our luggage was taken to the luggage room until our room was ready.
The hotel was extremely busy but the service by the bar staff was great with a friendly smile......dont believe all the reviews!
We experienced very hot weather and were expecting a cool bedroom as they promoted the hotel as having air conditioning......it was almost non-existent.......more or less warm air being moved around the room.....this is something that lets the hotel down.
The restaurant was pleasant but if you wanted to sit outside you had to queue unlessyou got the the restaurant early. The food was plentiful and buffet style. The chefs are cooking the meats pizzas etc but just be aware that on six out of the seven nights we experienced under cooked meat. The pizza chef also needs to make the pizzas more efficiently as he tended to disappear and the pizzas were VERY slow in coming. The choice for families with young children is poor and Barcelo hotels need to review this.
It certainly wasnt all negative as the hotel is in a fantastic location with spectacular views and the swimming pools.sunbeds were plenty....although you had to be up early!!
I would reccomend going here as the negatives certainly didnt make us have a poor holiday....quite the contrary....if you want a relaxing, get away from it all holiday then this is your location.
The evening entertainment is of a poor standard however the entertainment staff work long hours and do a brilliant job during the day to keep all entertained.....well done to them, especially Natalie.
I am still a Barcelo Hotels fan but have to say i was a little disappointed.

Room Tip: Reserve a Sea View

We stayed here for 14 nights and had an amazing time at BS. The rooms are very clean and the staff extremely helpful, the area is quiet and the pools are really good. Some of the staff are grumpy and the beds are quite hard but other than this the hotel is brilliant. The entertainment team is really good and funny and friendly you must watch their Hollywood show it is amazing and the games are fun during the day. If you need to book excursions during your stay go to Gecko Excursions we had real fun at Siam and Loro parks, quad biking and fishing. Shabba! Had an excellent holiday in Tenerife and would love to go again.

Stayed at the Barcelo for 10 nights from 180811. Overall an excellent holiday, location superb. 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 teenagers aged 16, 15 and 15. the downside was entertainment was very restricted.. During the day they played in the pools (1 of which was sea water) tennis, table tennis and pool. Eldest son decided to join in the football which is run every other day, should have done it earlier thoroughly enjoyed it. The pool areas are quite deceiving in the pictures as they look bigger than than are but they were adequate. Would have been better if "all inclusive" didnt finish at 11 oclock and if some foods at the pool bar you didnt have to pay for (as all inclusive should mean all inclusive) but the food was brill. Like the other reviews I agree there are a couple of misreble/rude waiters but this was cerrtainly the minority of staff, most were very good, particularly if you tip the first couple of days your there, they serve you quicker and generally remember your drinks from the night before.
The rooms were very clean and although we didnt pay for a sea view, I requested to be on the 6th floor our views were to die for. All 3 rooms were together, couldnt of asked for any more. The beds were comfortable but the pillows were hard, the noise from the hotel and outside area is turned off at midnight which was great if you were tired.
Would recommend a trip to the "siam water park" biggest wave machine I have ever seen. Although it cost us 41 euros per person (including transfer) it was great, far too many people, queues for up to 2 hrs. Get there early as they run out of lockers but we were lucky and got a great spot. (No food is allowed so dont buy crisps etc to take in.)
Would also recommend paddys bar in gigantis (just 10 mins walk or 3 euros in cab) great entertainment followed by karoke at midnight. The soul singer is the best night to go.
If your looking for a relaxing holiday in a great hotel but not looking for too many late nights this hotel is for you.
Would go back but probably just with adults.
