“Cheap and a little bit cheerful”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Agree with Suddick - staff on Reception frosty! The chap was pk but the females looked down their noses at us and everyone else. We did ask to be moved as our room was so cold, getting no sun from morning to night and they obliged without quibble, however the rule about no towels on sunbeds was ignored, people out at 6am claiming the beds. Noisy aircon unit droning on all night (not the one in our room but the main motor). Outbreak of a virus in hotel, staff on reception said us Brits brought it over (said accusingly, hello who is the client here?) Had our wallet pickpocketed, Reception were not interested in helping with a call to Police Station (no-one at the station spoke spanish). Thomas Cook rep gave us an automated number which we learned had been out of action for 2 years, rep no help either. Watch your belongings in Los Christianos.Hotel prices for drinks and snacks at the pool astronomical. Food - we only had one meal, bland. So pleased we did not opt for all inclusive. However, San Francisco Restaurant (right out of reception 500 yards) excellent food and value for money. Leonardo the waiter so kind and helpful. Italian Pizza Restaurant San Remo, across the road and to the right up the steps - superb. Excellent Indian - Krishna's in Los Gigantes village, 12 minute walk past the natural pool sign or 3 euros in cab - great ambience and service, food just brilliant. Good music at Route 66 Bar (out of hotel and right - 400 yards). The Barcelo Santiago Hotel opposite the Tamaimo has beautiful pools and a lovely bar, for the price of a drink you can take a sunbed which looks over the sea through glass windbreaks - so relaxing - will stay in Barcelo next time around.

Look for ther sign to the Natural Pool and take a swim in it - just heavenly experience.

Bus 477 goes to Christianos and Americas (opposite hotel flight of steps, left at top and bus stop outside post office). Good chemist at top of steps too. Opposite P.O. shop on corner (looks like an off licence, sells bono tickets - 15 euros - just pop in machine on bus, save a fortune, costs 2.90 euros one way to Los Christianos - 4.30euros if you don't have the card. Take no notice of timetables, buses run roughly each hour, anyway who is in a hurry on holiday. Adeje market worth a look, if you take a free PAL trip, they actually stop off on market day and you have free time to look around. You go to the mountains on this trip, they give you a presentation on merino wool lasts 45mins and must admit very interesting asnd entertaining (plus a few glasses of bubbly) with no pressure whatsoever to buy anything- a brilliant trip for free. Couple next to us took the trip 3 times!

Lastly, took a Jeep Safari to La Gomera, Mon & Thursday's, full day including lunch 83 euros very well spent if you get Franky (full name Jose Francesco) as your guide. Such a fabulous fun day out. Bought the DVD which filmed us all day, a great momento and delivered to our hotel. Played it wehen we got home, excellent quality. This trip can only be booked at the Thomas Cook desk in corner of Reception, but the best way to visit Gomera Island as the Jeeps can go where the coach cannot. All other travel agencies offer the trip but only by coach.

To be honest, the best thing about the Tamaimo Tropical is the solarium on the 5th floor, but no-one tells you about it?! It is hidden among the room entrances, just look for small brass plaque. The gardens by the wishing well are quite lovely too.Would not stay here again, but you do get what you pay for - £450 each all in with flight and 1 bed s/c apartment for 2 weeks. If you go here do not stay in the rooms near the ice hockey machine and 2 table tennis tables, the kids play on them until whatever time they like and the noise is horrendus!

Room Tip: Stay away from rooms near Table Tennis and Ice machine, try the other side of hotel as the sun warms...

The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly, the food was good, we never went hungry, we were never short of a drink my only grumble was the charge for the deposit box ( 50 euros for two weeks) the most i ever paid was 25 euros a bit excessive apart from that we had a great time and would go back as i say you get what you pay for, if you want 5 star pay the extra

My wife and I have just returned from 1 week all inclusive to this hotel returning 26/1/13 and whilst this is mostly negative I must say that this Hotel and managemant attitude really dissapointed us , I feel I have been restrained and honest through out.
The room as is usally the case was hard to find but reasonably clean on the whole on arrival, (horrible settee thing provided as seating but hey, live and let live)

There is no point beating about the bush about the rest:-
The noise comming from the kitchen and kitchen staff when on break at night and early morning 6:00 is totally unacceptable (empty beer kegs thrown about for an hour one night @ midnight!!!!) . Despite complaints made directly to the kitchen staff as well as one of the Hotel managers with a slight positive effect the next night, there after it was back to usual service, so if you are any where near Room 160 no sleep!!!!!!!! believe me.
There appears to be no acceptance of a duty of care towards guests or ther own staff for that matter, with no hand hygiene promotion, no staff hand hygiene or any other infection prevention/ infection control evident (gloves, aprons, hand gel etc).
When the reception was made aware of our dire situation, we both being extremely ill, management advised my wife that there has been a problem at the hotel and locally for some months, THIS IS THE FIRST I HAD HEARD OF THIS!!!!!!!
The Hotel layout is a laugh and totally random more akin to faulty towers.
Although there are drinks available at the bar in the dreaded mini plastic cups, patrons have a very difficult time obtaining the drink as the bar is hardly ever manned and then when staff arrive after seeing there is a near riot breaking out you are limited to two drinks per visit.
Talking of Faulty towers be aware during meal times and keep an eye on your food as the table cleaners swoop like Blackpool seagulls and take your food away whilst you are buttering a bread roll or worse yet getting cool drink!!!!.
Contrary to all my other experiences in the Canary Islands,10yrs, I found staff morale to be very low or the locals here are just a miserable lot, either way I have not returned home with a glowing feeling that we were made very welcome.
Be advised that the transfer to this hotel is likely to be in excess of 90 minutes when travelling by bus, however before setting off from the airport, you may well be kept waiting an additional 45 mins---1 hr for the bus to be filled, so if you thought the flight long.

Room Tip: Do not unpack the first night as you may well be moving room the next morning and don't accept a...

just back from a week there weather was fantastic loved the wee resort , i found the hotel dead on ,some people complain about very little,if they come out of such grand swanky houses why would they opt for a 3 star accomadation ..... so get a grip catch yor sel on ,you go on a holiday to explore not sit in and watch telly or admire the decor in your room ,id go back to Tamaiomo Tropical nay problem at all. I found the staff o.k some were more friendlier than others ,but sure what of it if they dont want to smile or chat thats up to them i aint bothered life is too short to worry bout silly things like that ,just get on with it ,the food was alright but hey ho do those complainers sit down to big lavish meals at home each night ,me thinks not prob get bacon and sausages with chips at home ,just eat up and shut up and stop your gurning happy hols in tenerife

Just returned from 4th visit to this hotel. It has new management and could see immediately the differences Freshly decorated outside areas. Pool bar cafe great choices for snacks - steak, chicken, kebabs, bacon steaks etc. You can also upgrade for 10 euro a day for branded drink. Also solarium opened on 5th floor roof and no kids allowed. Best of my four visits will definitely be back x

Room Tip: We were in 176 on new side of hotel, overlooking quieter pool, but met friends in room 428 with view...

Hotel room did what you needed, bar areas good, food was poor struggled to eat a whole meal. Had to eat out a few nights even though all inclusive !! Otherwise clean with helpful staff! We stayed during first fires so lack of sun for 3 days out of 7 dampened all guests spirits. We had minimal problems with noise and drunks.

Just had a very pheasant stay at this hotel self catering.
On arrival the reception very clean and welcomming, checking in was carried out by a very pleasant informative receptionist.
Our room was on the ground floor it was tired but clean. It contained a Microwave, Toaster, Kettle and a two ring cooker. sufficient for our needs. twin beds in the bedroon and a sofa/bed in the main room.
The grounds were well maintained and the Solarium sun terrace allowed us to have a quite time enjoying the sun.
Free Wi-Fi is available in the reception
The resort is small but very hilly, we used the local bus after buying a Bono card costing 15 Euro both can use the same ticket(great service)
We would use this hotel again for a short restful break , but do not expecy 5 star accommondatio for a 2 star price.

Room Tip: High room provide great views
