Spent a week at this hotel recently and found it a higher star than rated. The food was very good and varied each day. The entertainment was the usual Parrot show, Birds of Prey and Flamenca Dancers. Great if you hav'nt seen them before. We were all inclusive but still ventured out and found a geat bar called Route 66 which I would highly recommend. The band Old dogs New Tricks were fabulous. Nice quiet resort to stay in. I will definately go back.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a pool view as this hotel has two pools

just returned from a week over half term with the wife and 2 kids (13 & 7). the only thing that spoilt the holiday was the weather! 6 out of 7 days cloudy or rainy. this aside the hotel itself is of a higher standard than the 2 stars given. The food: we found it quite adequate for our needs, ok so its not gourmet, but the people who moan about it, should look at how much it costs to stay here as opposed to a 4/5 star! there was always something for the british. yes i agree that some of the food was re-used, but just be sensible and steer clear of it. The drinks were as most all inclusives, served in small plastic cups, and the beer very weak (san miguel?), but you can still have as much as you wanted. The kids also took advantage of the free ice lollys all week..
one gripe was that at the large pool bar, the last 2 days of our holiday the drinks machines were broke, so had to walk to the other pool and back (with 4 drinks). only a small inconveniance, but how long to fix? it still wasn`t fixed on our departure.
upon our arrival it was 2 am, and they gave us a room (162) which had a nice pool view but the noise from the generator outside and the kitchen noise was unbearable all night, so we went to reception in the morning. they were brilliant and gave us 2 more room keys to try. we opted for room 430 in the old pool area, which was perfect for us, with a sea view, but there is no air con in these rooms, in the old part,(as pointed out by receptionist) but as it was only in the low 20`s it didn`t bother us too much. this would be an issue in higher temperatures though. rooms cleaned daily and towels everyday.
the entertainment was the standard kids disco, bingo, show. this was ok for a couple of days then began to get tedious, so we just went to the bars next to hotel a few times (route 66 has great live music). the snake show in hotel was ok, but 20 euros for a photo, for the kids? rip off.
we went over halloween and the kids club staff painted all the kids faces, in the bar which was great to see, so they all made an effort. can`t comment on the daytime kids clubs as our kids didn`t want to use them.
the staff were, in general very friendly and courtious, and extreamly hard working. we had 2 lightbulbs go out on us, and they had been and fixed within 15 mins, which going by the other reviews, we thought would take ages.
we hired a car for 2 days (76 euros - santiago rent a car) and went to siam park and loro parque, as it saved a lot of messing around getting buses etc and we got to see the scenic north via sheer drop winding roads (in the torrential rain) which was an experience!
the hotel is a great value for money hotel as long as you accept it`s not 5 star and generally you do get what you pay for. if you read any of my previous inputs this compares to a 4 star egyptian hotel easily, and the location is perfect if your in good health (due to hills and a few steps), and prefer the quieter resorts, nice walks to playa de la arena and los gigantes, with great views, only 15 min walks north and south of peurto santiago.

I stayed for one week in early November 2012 at this hotel and had a disappointing time.
The package was all inclusive which I will definitely not opt for on any future holidays.
My main complaint would be the quality of the food served at lunch and dinner. Breakfast was ok but this is not hard to get wrong. However the buffet menu was unimaginative and cooked to a low standard. Dishes appeared to be recycled from left overs from the previous night and relabelled as something else the following day.
I was not impressed with the drink selection either.
White wine tasted like my parents home brew kit gone wrong from the 1970s. Red wine was a chilled sangria like beverage made our of god only knows what.

Didn't bother trying the sangria.

Beer was cold but like all the alcoholic beverages the alcohol content was 0%! This seems to be the norm at most all inclusive resorts nowadays. The only positive was not seeing drunk and unruly Brits everywhere!

If you are going to install a tv in each room with the majority of guests being British why are all the channels Spanish? Possibly because we are in Spain? Most people won't agree with this grumble but it peeved me off as the hotels Wifi wasn't free which is unacceptable in 2012!

The hotel rooms are clean with comfortable beds but do not have air conditioning and not even a fan. I found the nights uncomfortable and can not imagine what it must be like in the height of summer.

Swimming pool was freezing and not heated as advertised. All the showers around the pool didn't work.

To summarise I would say the hotel is penny pinching on so many basic facilities that I would expect to find. our spirits were raised when we decided to go out for dinner in the evening at a nice restaurant called San Francisco. fellow diners were also donning all inclusive wrist bands which says a lot about the hotels food. I shall be steering towards self catering in the future. The med and canaries are over priced and do not offer value for money thanks to high priced air fares exchange rates and the formidable markets they operate in these times of austerity.

Just returned from a lovely week which was our honeymoon at this hotel. I was a bit worried having read some of the previous reviews on here but can honestly say now I have been there I really do not now what some people expect!!! I could not find fault with the food, quality wise of variation!! If anyone can complain about having options such as tuna steaks, lamb chops, pork chops, sweordfish, duck and many other choices each night I really can't imagine what they are expecting!! The hotel itself is clean and well set out and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. I would have no hesitation in returning for another holiday to the Tamaimo Tropical and would recommend it

Having previously stayed at the Tamaimo Tropical in April 1998, we returned in October 2012 to discover that the Tamaimo, like Puerto Santiago in general, had doubled in size. The original layout of a pool encircled by apartments has been echoed by further blocks surrounding a second pool which is overlooked by the tennis courts. The overall shape is now a bit like a £ sign with pools in the open areas. Expansion has also allowed the provision of bars and restaurant areas which mainly service the large all-inclusive business which the Tamaimo seems now to specialise in. The ‘new’ pool features a large circular pool restaurant at one end of the pool which was well used at all times of the day. There are plenty of sunbeds, although in October parts of the pool were in shade which limited the numbers of places to site the beds for those who wanted to relax in the sun.

Since we stayed on a self-catering basis, I can’t comment on the quality of the food and drink but the new block has retained the quality of the original. The new reception area is large, the staff courteous. Free Wi-Fi is available at reception with coin-operated computers also available for those without their own device. Having expected a studio, we were upgraded on arrival to a one bedroom apartment, which was good customer service. The apartment was spacious with good storage areas and a reasonably well-equipped kitchenette. The living room and balcony overlooked the pool with the bedroom at the front of the building, which had its disadvantages (see room tip). The bedroom wardrobe includes a security safe, which costs a whopping €25 per week for the hire of the lock and key in addition to a returnable €10 deposit. This is a rip-off which should not be allowed. It is part of the fixtures and requires no staff time to implement its use and, like the TV remote, should require just the €10 deposit.

For non AI guests, there are five or six restaurants and a couple of bars in the centre opposite the nearby Barcelo Santiago with a few other restaurants housed across the road in the building which houses the HiperDino supermarket. The menus are varied and offer good value for money, with two courses and a bottle of wine for two coming in at about €30-35.

Nearby, Playa de Arena is about 15 minutes walk south, with Los Gigantes being accessible via a pathway just beyond the Barcelo Santiago. Taxis are available outside the Barcelo. Each contains more bars and restaurants and both are well worth a visit. The steep hill beyond the pathway to Los Gigantes leads to newly developed apartments and hotels which have been built since 1998. Having climbed that hill then I had no desire to do so again...

Overall, I can highly recommend Puerto Santiago as a peaceful place to spend a week away from the bustle of resorts further south and the Tamaimo Tropical as an ideal spot to have that relaxing week...

Room Tip: We stayed in room 381 which had good pool views but suffered from its proximity to the street level...

First of all I will point out that this is an honest and realistic review. As a party of 9 people, we always stay AI in a 3 or 4 star and know what to expect. The hotel is fine - we arrived to a good friendly reception, although we had missed the evening meal time by 5 mins and there was nothing we could eat. We went around the corner to a nice little restaurant to feed the kids and then off to bed. The rooms are spacious and clean so no complaints there - air con in our room was great although it didnt work well in one of the rooms some of our party were in. Breakfast on the first day was Ok - the usual AI type of food although one of us found an eyelash in the scrambled egg! The food at this hotel is not adequate or nice for a 3 star - it is definately a 2 star and was not brilliant. Some days the eggs were old and smelt of fish, the soup was made with the remains of the breakfast and often even had scrambled egg in it! The bread rolls and croissants were plentiful but always dry and stale. As a party we had to eat out 8 times while we stayed here which made it quite expensive. The day entertainment is not brilliant - the main entertaniner - ZSOFIA - was great. She spent a lot of time getting to know everyone and was good with the children. On her days off, the other entertainers did as little as possible ( 10 mins per activity if you were lucky! - far too busy on their mobile phones or looking pretty! ). One of the days, a new arrival brought their 5 yr old daughter to the kids club which should run from 12 - 1. Outside this club the adults do archery and rifle shooting! The entertainer who should have been supervising the kids club left the children alone and the 5 yr old wandered out into the adult area and barely missed being 'shot' at! The child was then asked if she knew what room she was in and answered with a nod ( she was not english and didnt understand ) and was then left to roam. Luckily another family found her crying and took her to reception! Do not leave your children with these entertainers! The evening entertanment was diabolical! we love the usual cheesey entertainment and do not expect much but the Robbie Williams tribute act was the worst karaoke type singer ever! The good nights we did have were ones that involved including the audience - ide karaoke and challenge night. Zsofia was great and she was the one who made some of the nights barable. The alcohol is the usual AI - not strong but plentiful and we totally agree with plastic cups by the pool for safety. The swimming pools are lovely and kept clean.. The big one has music all day which we dont mind but the same songs played in a loop every single day will make you go mad! It wasnt funny in the end and when we asked if there was any other music the answer was NO! We did meet some great people who made the holiday ( we also met Dave and Tracey, as well as Conner, Malvin and Charlie and plenty of others ). Most of the staff here are friendly and some are not - much the same anywhere you go really - we try to get on with most people but some just dont want to smile! lol. We will not return to this hotel. Would like to say THANK YOU so much to Zsofia and sorry we didnt see you to say goodbye - the coach came 20 mins early and we left before 4 when we said we would be in reception - it was a pleasure to meet you and you are fantastic at your job!! My wife and I stayed here on an all inclusive break in early October 2012. Our room was in fact a one bedroom apartment. First impressions were that it was very clean but it was definately in need of some refurb work. I believe that the hotel has some refurbished rooms and ours must have been on the "to do" list !! But it was clean. Staff came in every day to mop and change towels (except Sunday).
The staff throughout the hotel work hard. Most of them are very friendly and will afford you a smile.
Alot of the reviews for this hotel complain about the food. Can I just clarify, this a 2/3 star hotel. Bearing this in mind, I thought that the food was generally good.
The cuts of meat were decent. Beef, lamb, chicken.....oh and quite alot of pork !! But you also had offerings of Tuna steak, swordfish and lots of fresh salads. Breakfast was usually good. My only gripe regarding the food was the bacon that was offer. The hotel uses small pieces of fatty streaky bacon. All laid out on big trays so that the pieces overlap. Hence, all the bacon is partially cooked leaving fatty overlapped pieces. Moan over. It didn't ruin my holiday.
Drinks are plentiful, San Miguel is the free lager. Wines and Sangria are on tap at meal times.
Loads of soft fizzy options aswell.
Our balcony overlooked the smaller quieter pool. This suited us and this is where we chose to sunbathe. The larger pool has the poolside bar. Free burgers and hotdogs bar. Oh and loud music.
The resort is a lot quieter than Playa or Los Cris. A short walk around the corner takes you to the seafront. I would recommend a visit to La Pergola restaurant with its terrace overlooking the sea. Go around sunset time for a lovely experience. Btw, the food is very expensive. However, the drinks are reasonably priced.
We would happily return to this hotel. Nice location. Good staff. Good food.Total chillax !!

Room Tip: I would recommend a room overlooking the smaller pool. Avoid the top floor. They don't have a ba...
