We stayed as 2 x families, 4 x adults 2 x children (both 10yr old boys) at the Playa La Arena in July 2013,for 11 days. the travel time from the airport is horrendous I would advise getting a taxi if your thinking of booking. however the first look into the reception is stunning! lots of hanging vines and water features as we arrived late the hotel arranged us a cold meat buffet which was appreciated. the staff are professional without engaging I would say, apart from the 2 ladies who seemed to run the pool bar who were very much engaging! always smiling and welcoming. The entertainment team tried its best but their is a language barrier and we seemed they were better around our French counterparts but when we tried a few activities they encouraged us to join in so that's a good point. the weather as always was superb around 35C everyday and the pool area was immaculate the top pool is mainly the kids and the bottom one a little quieter for the adults. The sunbeds was never an issue, yes we used to put the towels down but a sedate 8am is fine by us and we were in them by 10.30 and stayed all day. the room are spacious and clean and we had fresh bedding and towels everyday the air con was just ok. the food, standard buffet fayre the breakfast, fresh cooked to order omelettes, bacon, ham sausage beans or European buffet with cheeses and cold meats and cereals, lunch always had burgers and hot dogs and loads of salad and dinner was themed every night whether it was English ,Spanish, French or Italian and I would have to say it was a pretty good standard, however, as buffets go it is a little samey! and we ventured out a couple of nights and found a really good Tapas bar about 10 minutes walk next to the local Chinese and Indian restaurant's. the resort itself is very quiet not much going on. and the evening entertainment was average at best. the one annoying thing is that at around 12.30am when we were still up and talking they switch all the lights off in the bar/lounge area leaving you to stumble about in the dark trying to follow the emergency lighting towards the lift areas. But overall I would say this hotel deserves its 4 star rating and to be fair, it would only need tweaking across the board to warrant a fifth star.

Room Tip: you can pretty much guarantee a sea view in this hotel as it is in a L shape! we stayed on the 8th f...

Was a bit apprehensive when we first booked to go to Playa de la arena as we were used to going to playa de las Americas but we pleasantly surprised.the hotel foyer is stunning which carries on through the hotel. The family rooms are large and comfy with a separate bath and shower.two large swimming pools and plenty of sunbeds.the food was okay with something to eat most nights.wouldnt recommend the hotel to people with walking disabilities as it is situated on a steep hill.on the whole a very enjoyable holiday and we would return.

arrived back today from a week at this beauiful hotel. the transfer is long, so i would advise getting a taxi. arrived and entered the front door and the reception area was breathtaking. took my daughter plus her friend. so we had two rooms. the staff were very helpful and the food plentiful. the drinks etc were good. loved the glass lifts. it's a lovely place and i would go back, but if you are young and want a night life go to playa de america. this is a little bit of heaven more for young familys and couples. felt very safe as it was my trip by myself. our rooms were bright and loved having separate shower and bath. the pools were clean and everywhere spotless. i would like to thank the staff for a wonderful week.

Room Tip: we had 402 and 404 and would have them again lovely, overlooked the pool and beach

I have taken my youngest son to this hotel twice in recent months. We like to go to Tenerife when it's quieter and at those times of the year the water tends to be cold in both the hotel pools and the ocean. A big plus for this hotel is that it has 2 decent size outdoor swimming pools one of which is heated to appx 25 degrees so perfect for a swim whenever you want.

The other reasons we chose this hotel are:

a) The lovely pictures on various websites: In this respect it is just as it is in the pictures.
b) We wanted to be in the south as it's sunnier than the north but away from the busier parts of the Island. The hotel is about 35 minutes from the south airport by car and in the lovely little resort of Puerto de Santiago. Nice and quiet.
c) Whilst there are various options on offer at the hotel, we wanted All Inclusive and though this isn't the cheapest of what's available compared to similar hotels, the write up are generally good in terms of the All Inclusive element. We found the food very good and there was always something available throughout the day if we were a bit peckish.

So, a brief overview:

The first time we booked with a Travel Agent and we stipulated All Inclusive with a sea view. No problem on arrival. The pool / sea views are very nice.
The second time we booked with a different Travel Agent and whilst we requested a pool / sea view found we didn't initially have one when we arrived. To the hotels credit when I pointed out we had only stayed a couple of months before and it would be nice if they looked after regular patrons they gave us a pool / sea view without an additional charge. So be sure you have either paid for it up front or are prepared to pay for it on arrival or you may end up in one of the rooms at the front which look inland.

On arrival the reception area looks very spacious, classy and clean. The staff are friendly and polite and check in is very quick. On our second stay they seemed to already have our passport details on their system and didn't ask for them at all which I though was great.,

The rooms are very nice. Clean with what you'd expect from large spanish hotels........all except a kettle and tea and coffee making facilities which was a niggle for me personally! The other thing is there isn't an iron and ironing board but they are available and delivered to your room fairly quickly when you ask for them. I was charged 2 euro's each time for an hours use. The room cleaning is very good and the sheets were changed additionally to their schedule when I asked without a quibble.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner: All self service in the Dining Room. Men must wear long trousers for dinner.

Breakfast great choice of all the usuals you'd expect though it can get quite busy so we found it much nicer to go earlier. Also, at times the orange and coffee ran out in the machines as did the glasses and cups. I was disappointed with this as it happened on several occasions on both times we have stayed.

Lunch: It was generally not very busy in the Dining Room for a proper sit down lunch. That suited me and my son fine, as there was always a great choice of nice fresh food. In fact they kind of over provided really which seemed a bit of a waste of money in my view. There were a couple of occasions when some of the food was a bit luke warm but overall more than satisfactory. There are snacks available throughout the day by the swimming pools if you don't fancy putting clothes on and sitting down properly.

Dinner: You have to queue for a few minutes on some occasions to be seated by one of the staff. There are 'Themed Evenings' with focus on food from certain parts of the world which is nice and makes a change.
The Dining Room can get very busy so again we found it best to go earlier. Good choice of food and always a chef cooking some fish or chicken fresh in front of you which we liked. The staff offer and bring you beer, wine, water or a soft drink on request.

Overall my son and I both found the food very good on both occasions we stayed and it would be a reason for us to go again which we will in the near future.

Swimming Pools: Beds were generally available. You have to pay a deposit at reception to obtain a pool towel which are nice big blue ones. Be aware that you can only exchange them for fresh ones at certain times that are on the door of the towel hut. The main pool is lovely and warm. The other pool tends to be quite cold. My son liked to start in the warm pool and then jump into the cold pool on occasion to amuse himself. On one occasion a 'jobs-worth' member of staff tried to tell me that it was a quiet pool and jumping in wasn't allowed. I politely told him to go and get his manager to explain where this restriction is stated and surprise surprise he nor his manager came back.
The pool area was generally very clean. The snack food that is available is more than adequate and there are self serve beer, soft drinks and ice cream available all day. My son loved it and quite happily spent hours in the pool even when the day was cloudy and overcast. Very good.

Entertainment: There is a childrens room that my 10 year old son wasn't that impressed with. There was also some entertainment each night for the grown ups which was fairly good.
We tended to spend most of our time in the Piano Bar and the service was fine with no issues.

One last thing I would add is that if you want to go All Inclusive you don't save an awful lot by spending ages trawling the internet for the best price. When I have looked on the internet and spoken to the staff in the hotel it doesn't seem to be much different from the prices on the Be Live website so we will probably book it direct with Be Live in the future.

All in all a fairly good hotel all round and a good base for a stay in Tenerife.

Room Tip: A high floor with a pool / sea view

We stayed here last 2 weeks August 2013 and had a brilliant holiday, we were family of 3 adults 2 children and were upgraded to junior suit overlooking the pool on first morning of stay. The hotel was very clean and the food was to high standard, not always to the taste of all our party but that was down to the idividuals, not the quality of the food. The staff were polite and friendly. The only thing I would advise is that you take a travel kettle as there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. other than this I couldnt fault our stay.

The common areas are beautiful but the hotel is mediocre. No real problems or issues but overall thought we paid too much for what we received. We stayed at three other hotels in Tenerife and thought this one was the least desirable. We paid an extra 10 Euros a night for an upgrade to a balcony room overlooking the pool and ocean. This might put some people off but I wasn't too bothered about it and thought this was worth the money. The food was fine but wasn't able to do the dinner meal as they would not allow me to eat without dress pants. I brought only shorts, and despite trying to purchase some in the local area (which is virtually impossible). While not having dress pants is my fault, I think that if you are running a resort you need to be a little more flexible with guests. The resort was nice but not so nice that you need to have dress pants for dinner. Unfortunately, there were no other dining options such as a snack bar or something more casual for those who just want dinner in their shorts and flip-flops :-).

The following are the pluses and minuses:

+ Nice pool area
+ Nice Common areas
+ free wifi in the common areas
+ mini-golf and table tennis for kids

- Need dress pants for dinner
- Only one restaurant open past 6:00 pm
- most restrictive all inclusive been to
- parking was a pain

Room Tip: Room overlooking the pool and ocean - fifth floor or higher

Myself and my boy (age 7) stayed at the hotel for one week. This was the first time we stayed at this hotel. The hotel was stunning and all staff was so polite. When we arrived, the receptionist staff engaged positively and asked if we would like to have some lunch. We got a nice room in second floor with the pool and sea view. Room was cleaned daily. The food was lovely, plenty of choice all day long. A lot of facilities for children, kids club excellent, kids disco and entertainment every night. Pool area was very good, clean, bins changed regularly during the day, food and drinks at the pool bar were very nice. I would recommend this hotel. Everything was absolutely fantastic.
