I have reviewed this hotel on many occassions, as we have been holidaying there for the past twelve years, but I am sorry to say this time I must admit the food has definitely gone down, also the maintenance of the hotel - this I am sure is due to the number of people being there - this being due to it being an all inclusive - and attracting more families.
I still cannot fault the staff, I think they are extremely friendly - if you treat them properly they treat you fairly.
I must say this hotel is in bad need of a revamp tho' we have been going for over 12 years now and as far as I can remember this has not been decorated and it shows in the carpets, and the stains on the walls in the bedrooms, but this doesn't alter the fact that the rooms are kept very clean, and I can't fault the housekeeping.
This would not stop me re visiting the hotel in the future - so come on Belive lets see if you can improve on these things.

Room Tip: go for a high floor lovely views.

Pool- lovely if not to busy. Weekends seems to be super busy! The reserving of sunbeds, annoying but you could always get a sunbed. We have a 3 yr old and had a life jacket floaty for her which was great. The pool was fairly deep (for her) so this meant she could safely play in the pool all day. There are rules about blow up floaties in the pool, so don't bother buying one from their shop!
Pool Bar- the food was really not good. Chips were fine. So for lunch we recommend eating inside the hotel. By far the best meal of the day was at lunch time. The drinks by the pool and ice cream are great.
Hotel Rooms- so clean can not fault.
Hotel- really nice and looks amazing inside.
The bracelet all inclusive system- do not upgrade to premium drinks. A complete rip off. I wasn't allowed anything I wanted. Just Smirnoff and Baccardi. Everyone was complaining about this, they really need to change it.
Entertainment- Kiddies disco was awesome and the shows were ok. Nothing really wonderful but kept us entertained a few nights.
Reception staff- I read how awful they are so was pleasantly surprised. The issue here is they speak Spanish and have many Spanish speaking guests. So possibly can come across rude but I have no doubt Spanish people would feel the same in an English hotel!
Food- ok very samey. Kinda what you expect. Lots of German options but I imagine the Germans weren't impressed either. Ice cream and deserts were nice. I ate soup most nights with Sangria. Can't complain to much. We did eat out a few nights just for a change and a steak!
The resort- really quiet nice little town. Not for young people wanting to party but great for couples and families wanting quiet time. When you come down from the lift to the main road, do a right and the first pub on the right does a great sandwich and very cheap drinks. Also if you like sport, a great place to catch a game!
The beach- well it's black sand so when it's hot the sand is like fire under your flip flops. And after paying 9 euros for two sun beds and an umbrella, we tortured ourselves to stay there as long as possible. You can't swim as the current is to strong, yet I did see crazy people doing it. And the worst bit is the black sand covers your body and stays with you. I probably still have some on me now! All that said, it's very beautiful and when there it's worth going for an evening walk on the beach.
The locals- very friendly. We took a taxi from the airport for 50 euros which was 30 minute drive. Our taxi driver was lovely and told us all about the island. We did speak to people who took a transfer and they were on coaches for over an hour and a half. Get a taxi it's worth the money! There are loads waiting as you come out of the airport. No need to book. Very easy.
All in all really nice holiday and just what we needed. Food could have been a bit better but for the money it was ok. Personally I would only go back if we got another cheap deal.

Room Tip: We did pool and sea view. Was lovely! We spoke to people who looked out over the road so pay the ext...

as a returning guest to this hotel i noticed the changes and they are very big.to begin with, the rooms are of poor quality with some broken furniture, noisy air condition, fridge which does not cool,etc..so it is obvious that the maintenance is absolutely not important for the management and at the moment the room is worth 2.5 star ,not 4.....plus everything what was mentioned in previous review regarding housekeeping....disappointing!!!
To speak about the staff of the hotel,in a word, awful!!!!they hardly speak English, very often unprofessional and very rude.
this time food in the restaurant was of poorer choice, same cold as it was during our previous stay.
The entertainment in the evening is quite good.
We were looking forward to come to BE LIVE PLAYA LA ARENA this time as were happy with previous visit, but now with regret we will never come back as it is not the same level of service and we will be looking for new gems in this beautiful island.

We stayed at this hotel in 2003 when it was then run by the Springs Hotel Group. We travelled with the same friends then as we did this time. The hotel was fairly new when we travelled there the first time, the reception area is still stunning and the foliage has grown somewhat. Nothing has changed in regard to the decor of the bar areas and the bedrooms. On our first visit to the hotel we had premium rooms as we did this visit, what a difference. Included last time were bathrobes, slippers a basket of fruit and water and soft drinks in the fridge topped up every day. The safes were free too, now you have to pay for them. The bedding was changed three times a week, this time it was NOT changed at ALL !!. Our bath towels were changed every day, now its every other day. The maid kept the room immaculately clean so top marks for that . You could change the pool towels daily , but now you are only allowed to change them on Mon,Wed and Fri between the hours of 10 and 12 and 5 and 6 if you went out of those times they would not change them!! even if the attendant was there . The food was very good for the size of the hotel and the amount of guests it had to feed, there was something for everyone. At the evening meal gents must wear long trs, you will be turned away if wearing three quarters or shorts. But you will find that ladies are allowed to wear anything they like, some looked as though they had just got off the sunbed with shorts and strappy vests on??. The pool area was clean and tidy. There are lots of sun loungers, but I would imagine in July and August you would have to be up very early to get one. The entertainment was ok the best act was a Micheal Jackson mime artist. The main entertainment doesn't start until 10 pm, before this they present the awards for the days competitions. Whilst this is ok for adults it is late for children. The hotel is very clean and well maintained, but it is more like a 3 star now as it has lost some of its finer qualities that made it a 4 star.

Stayed 2 weeks late September, My partner and I had a room at the back with aview of the cliffs and Sea, so glad as we were not disturbed through the night by ignorant people hauling sunbeds around Comments made suggest the hotel is responsible for enforcing the no reservation rule The staff work long hours 6am to midnight thhey could not expected to get up at four thirty to explain the rule they have printed all over the pool area, on your welcome sheet and in your reps books Its a bit like saying I'm not responsible for speeding as the car allows me to do more than the limit on the road. They can not stop people being greedy. We always got beds on the higher terraces when we requred one, these were more secluded than next to the pool, Food was great as previously described , why go on holiday if you only want english type food, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the foods on offer. The staff were always polite and civil and sometimes it seemed they have a better relationsip with the spanish speaking guests, the spanish are flamboyant and expressive speakers and the conversations were probably related to food, football and the weather just as we do in england. Would definitely go back to tenerife probaly not all inclusive again as we enjoyed getting out and about and found supermarkets easiliy accessible and eating out reasonable for just 2. thanks playa del arena for a great holiday

We (me, wife and two children 11 & 9) went in October half-term 2010 and had a very enjoyable time. The room was plenty big enough for the four of us but we looked out to the side of the hotel so the view wasn't perfect. Good sized balcony for drying pool stuff.
The pool area was crowded and you needed to get up early to bag a sunbed, not normally our thing, but everyone was doing it!
Food was very good with a different theme every night and plenty to eat.
As usual the entertainment was a bit dire but the kids liked it and they met lots of friends.

My husband & I did a late booking to this hotel so we didnt have any idea what to expect. We arrived at the hotel 9.45pm and went to the reception who told us to put our cases into the luggge room and to go and get our meal before they stopped serving at 10pm which we thought was very good of them. There was another couple there also and when we got talking she said you will love this hotel as she stays here alot, then she told us she was a singer and travelled all over the world, her name was Jacky Graham.
When we went to our room (592) we were very pleased with it and had no complaints. We overlooked the pool and the sea and could see La Gomera in the distance. They even have canopies above all the balconies which you can pull out and adjust to keep the sun of you.
The room had a large queen size bed and plenty of wardrobe space and a small fridge to keep drinks cool, when you wanted bottles of water you just asked at the bar for them. The bathroom was very nice with a bath one end and a shower cubicle at the other side which was very powerful. Everyday you were given clean towels and there was shampoo machines on the wall in the shower and also on the bath wall plus complimentary soap, shampoo, shower cap, sewing kit etc.
The tv was good as you could get all the stations i.e. BBC1 BBC 2 ITV SKY News CBBs and BBC3 which we have never had before, you usually only get BBC world news.
There are 2 pools the first one is for families & children and the 2nd one for adults and we never had any problem getting a sunbed, maybe July and August may be harder when you have a lot of families there. You have to pay 12 euros each at reception for a towel but you get it back when you leave.
We could not fault the food in the restaurant, at breakfast you could get everything you could want, omeletts, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, beans, tomatoes,, hash browns, bacon etc, any amount of pots of youghat, porridge, cold meats, cheese, fruit etc. Take your own tea bags if you like your own brand but the coffee machine was fine and always hot. Breakfast and lunch time you just found your own table but at evening time you were taken to a table by a waiter/waitress who would get you what you wanted i,e, rose red or white wine, cava, beer, bottled water, soft drinks etc. Lunch time was fine but at evening men had to have a long pair of trousers as even with 3/4 length you were turned away. People on reviews say the food is repetative but when you are catering for so many nationalities it must be very hard but we never found a problem as thee was always something to eat and you were hard pushed to starve and we never found the food to be cold. I would like someone to name me a hotel that isnt repetative when you go for 2 weeks in a 4 star hotel.
In all you never could complain about getting drinks by the pool as there were slush machines, beer on tap, soft drinks etc but if you wanted wine or alcohol or coffee you went to the bar and you could get as many as you wanted.
The main piano bar was nice but could get a little boring hearing the same music every night possibly if they had a singer aswell it would be better, this bar served until midnight. The music b ar was ok but it only started the entertainment at 10pm so if you went in early for your meal you had a long wait and the shows they put on are magic shows, beatles, abba, parrot shows etc but they never went on for long 40 mins ar most. One fault in there was they never had enough glasses to go around and you ended up with plastic cups which for a 4 star hotel wasnt very good.
Overall the hotel was lovely staff were very nice, reception staff couldnt do enough for you, your room was always clean and the hotel well looked after as it is a large hotel and very spacious. But for us it was too hilly and not a lot around you to see, you could take the lift down to street level but there wasnt a lot to do and see, i.e. a few shops and restaurants and a couple of irish bars if you like walking.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at this hotel and had a chilling time and met some lovely people some of them have stayed there 6/7 times so it cant be all that bad and the weather was lovely and hot every day we were there.

Room Tip: A pool view and sea view is good and we recommend 5th floor as you can see everything
