Where do I begin!! Lets start with the good things about this hotel:-

Rooms are a good size and nice if you are lucky enough to have a sea view! (upgrade if you can for 5 euros a night)
maid service very good, rooms cleaned to a high standard.
reception/lobby area impressive.
food very good especially the evening meals.
Hotel generally kept very clean (but toilets did run out of loo roll/soap etc...)

Now the bad:-

Most staff very unfriendly/grumpy/rude! (found the cleaners to be the friendliest! and the reception staff the worst).
Kids club just a joke, colouring table and lego! Normally we cant get our daughter out the kids club but even she said "Is this it!" I would not have been happy to leave her by herself. My 8 year old wanted to do archery but was told you had to be over 12! so there was not alot for him to do!
Playground just a small soft play (socks needed) and only open 10-5pm (closed if raining!)
No inflatables/balls allowed in the pools.
2 very grumpy lifeguards go round patrolling the pools looking for any excuse to blow there whistles and tell you off!!.
Mini disco in a separate room so not enjoyable to sit and watch your kiddies having fun!.
Not enough waiters especially at breakfast time, often had to wait for a table.
Beach just across the road but sea to dangerous for small kiddies to go in and again NO BALL GAMES/FOOTBALL ALLOWED on the beach and a small charge to use the toilets.

Overall we were very disappointed with this hotel and resort. First choice state its a family hotel, it didn't feel like it! We would not go back as there is far better out there for families. We Would strongly recommend the red sea holiday village in Egypt!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a sea view if available

This was our 4th visit to this hotel having visited previously as couple and with our grandchildren. It is a lovely hotel previously owned by the Spring Hotel Group and now apparently by the Belive group. We definitely noticed the difference of management style,
particularly with the service, attitude of the staff and information. Upon arrival the staff were offish to a point of being rude. Previously we were offered a glass of carva upon arrival and needless to say there were no porters available. The rooms had no information whatsoever re the facilities telephone numbers or indeed activities.
The room was not cleaned or cleared on one of our days, and we had no towels on another.
The restaurant food was good as was the overall cleanliness of the place. One cannot be but impressed at the design of the hotel, with its grand reception area and its comfortable feel with the pools set at different levels and surrounded by the rooms with plants and foliage in abundance.
The couple we were with had a problem with their towels and were given short shrift from reception in an abrupt and offhand manner which did nothing to endear us to them.
In these days of austerity companies have to save money, and yes reduce the services (e.g. the Matre de whom managed the restaurant when owned by Spring Hotels had gone), but this is not an excuse for rudeness by staff in particular reception as this is the point of first contact with the customer.
We were disappointed with our 4th visit particularly as we had taken friends along. This could be a first class 4 star hotel but I fear that if the new management do not look after the detail and ensure the staff are fully trained then people will not come back for a 4th or indeed 5th time.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool area.

Just arrived back from 10 brilliant nights at Be Live Playa La Arena. We travelled as a family of 4 (children aged 2 & 7mths) for the first time abroad and had an excellent time. Having read some of the reviews before travelling, i can now say some people must just enjoy moaning!!!
The hotel was very impressive and spotlessly clean. We literally stood still and said "wow" as we entered the hotel, the reception area is huge and very shiney!! Check in was very quick (although we were the only people on our transfer coach to be dropped off - transfer is another story, it took 2hours to get there!! Although definately worth the wait - would reccommend getting a private transfer, travel time would be considerably reduced, maybe to 40minutes). Our room was very spacious, plenty of room for a cot and extra bed for our other child. We had a side sea view which was very nice, with the mountains setting the scene. Rooms were kept brilliantly clean, maid service every day with clean towels and bed linen. Only down fall of the rooms, no kettle to have a cuppa, although did have fridge and tv which you could get bbc, itv, bbc news, sky news and cbbc (handy for quiet time with a 2 year old!) Balcony also had a canopy which came in very handy as it rained one afternoon, and meant we could keep everything dry.
Swimming pool area was very clean and tidy, no major fight for a sunbed, we didnt go down until 9ish and never had a problem. All inclusive had use of self service soft drinks, slush drinks, water and beer tap!!! Also self service to ice creams, all of this was kept stocked up and area kept clean. Pool bar had selection of food, mainly chips, burgers, sausage etc, with more of a selection over lunchtime.
Waterslide a big hit with kids, lifeguards manning at all times. Small childrens pool area good, although slighly set back from main pool. No inflatables allowed in the main pool, although this was actually quite good as lots of people and lilos would have got in the way.
We were so happy & busy for the first 4days we didnt realise there was a soft play area for kids, a big winner with our daughter - just remember socks!
Food was lovely, a lot of variety each day with a different theme each night. Service in the resturants was very good, plently of highchairs for babies and seat pads for smaller children. Didnt get bored at all over 10days, although did think i might burst after eating so much!
Hotel is set on a hill which with a double buggy meant we had to walk up the hill when going to the shops, we didnt realise until day 3 there was actually a lift which takes you straight to the shopping street - avoiding walking up any hills!! A god send in the heat!
Overall we had a brilliant holiday and my daughters enjoyed themselves and were entertained 100% of the time. Mini-disco was a massive winner each night!
Would definately reccommend to others.

Having studied the reviews we took the plunge and booked.....

The hotel has a lovely relaxed feel about it and although the reception area is initially imposing after a couple of days you appreciate the space. The hotel was full but there was always somewhere so sit , quietly if you wished, with plently of terracing outside also.
School holidays meant busy but there seemed to be more foreigners than Brits which was fine as the children (aged 11 and 13) made friends very quickly and had a great time. another good point is that the kids are safe in the hotel and never seemed to get bored.

The shows were a mixed bag - ranging from some very good acrobatic / dance shows to some very poor solo / duets which filled in before and after the main shows - the proff was the place clearing when the main show had ended!
No fights for sunbeds in the morning - thank goodness(however we did find a russian family had taken our beds and towels whilst we were at lunch) fortunately an international incident was avoided!
As previously mentioned by others the pool bar food was not great - however...............sadly I have to say that the main thing that let the hotel down was the food, yes I appreciate that mass catering is difficult(I have been in the industry myself) however, cold food, tastless seasoning, dirty plates, cold plates and either over worked or not enough staff, meant that getting a set table was not easy and then getting plates taken from your table almost impossible. Yes I did try to speak to the staff in Spanish - some of them were a pleasure however they were in the minority, and it cannot be beause it is the end of the seaon because theirs is all year round.
We have been to 3 different hotels in Tenerife in the last 12 months and the food here has been the poorest - however you have to look at the whole package - some of the others with much better food had other drawbacks - so compromises have to be made.
Would I go back??? Yes I probably would, but would be prepared to eat out more often.

You get what you pay for and if you want top class food with all of the other trimmings then be prepared to pay substantially more - all things taken into consideration (including 3 wet days out of seven!)we all enjoyed ourselves.

Hi just got back from the Be Live Playa Arena. My husband and I who are both in our forties. We went for five nights. Hotel was lovely and has one of the biggest reception areas I have ever seen, Our transfer got us there very late (which is another story) and we missed the meal, the allinclusive was on till twelve so the receptionist said go and get a drink and I will book you's in. We did just that and managed three in half an hour haha. We then went to our room which had a pool and seaview view and was very big and spacious we were on the 6th floor room was loverly. Pool areas are huge and have childrens and adult areas if you want peace with know children go down to the far pool past snack bar. Plenty of sun loungers to go round and lots of individual sunbathing areas. Food beautiful lots and lots of choice and always something getting cooked in front of you by chefs and if you want something cooked for longer or you want your eggs turned over in the morning instead of sunnyside up just ask I did and they are very accomodating so much so that after the frist time they did it everytime I went to the counter. Entertainment was alright its just your normal acts that go round tenerife some good some okay and some bad. If you dont like you can go to another bar upstairs and listen to a piano player or you can go and sit on the terrace and chat and lok at the beautiful views. Also if you go out the hotel there is a gate at the bottom of the resort where you can get in so that you dont have to come back up the quite steep hill its down by the waterfall yes this hotel has its own waterfall. Not a big resort but buses are cheap just outside and cost next to nothing and are regular, to go to other resorts. Me and my husband did this to los gigantes its nice there but not big. If sick of hotel The blarney stone pub just down from hotel is very nice and friendly we often had a walk down there when the sun was at its hottest and had a couple of carling colds which cost 3 euros mmm. Weather was absoloutely boiling so take plenty suncream ENJOY. Oh and I would return to this hotel.

I have just recently arrived back from Be Live Playa La Arena after being there for a 7 night holiday with my partner and our children aged 2 and 7. After reading through some of the comments we were a little apprehensive about going, however once we arrived by private transfer from the airport (highly recommended) we were amazed by the stunning hotel entrance. We were booked in and directed to our room within 10 minutes of arriving and stayed on the 3rd floor over looking the sea and swimming pools which was lovely as it had a large balcony with table and chairs and towel holder. The room was immaculate with a spacious bath room separate shower and bath. The room is really large consisting of a king size bed, plenty of wardrobe space, sofa beds for the children, fridge and plasma screen which played BBC and ITV. The maid service was excellent they cleaned are room and changed our towels and bedding every day, you see them out in force cleaning the hotel at all hours they really do work hard. This hotel had a mini disco every night for the children with games, music and prizes, they also had a number of day time activities and competitions and one which I participated in most mornings was aqua gym. There are three swimming pools and a slide, pool tables, outdoor soft play area (take socks for the kids to wear) tennis courts and a mini golf. The food was really nice and there was plenty to choose from for children and adults. Each night there was a different theme; there was every type of meat and fish to choose from: tuna steak, pork, beef, chicken, prawns, and steak. There was loads of fruit and desserts and breakfast is just the same, so much choice. Full English fry up, cured meats, every type of cheese, fruit, cereals, chocolate waffles and show cooking making omelettes. In the restaurant there were hot drinks machines and juice/water machines to help yourself, in the evening you give the staff your drink order. During the day you can eat in the pool side bar food such as pizza, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, pasta, salad and fruit which suited the kids just fine. They loved the fact they could help themselves to ice cream and drinks such as Pepsi, 7up and slush puppies. The alcohol selection was great with very large measurements; the sangria was personally my favourite. During the evenings there was a different show every night, we loved the parrot show it was excellent. We will definitely be returning back to this hotel at some point in the future, we really did have a fantastic holiday and met some really nice friends!!!

one thing that would have made the hotel better would to of had a kettle and tea making facilities in the rooms.

Room Tip: would have be great to have a little kettle and tea making facilities in our room. take socks for t...

We came back from our holiday from playa la arena on Friday & as this was our honeymoon we wanted it to be extra special. I was a little worried after reading some comments about the rude staff & boring, plain food... However this was not the case. From the moment we stepped into the entrance our breath was taken away, it truely is a stunning hotel. We had a quick & friendly experience when booking in, our room wasn't ready for another 20 minutes so we left our luggage in the suitcase room & went for an explore & some lunch. When we got into our room about 30 minutes later, we were greeted with a bottle of fizz & wrapped up fruit basket with compliments from the hotel as it was our honeymoon. The staff I found were almost always polite, especially Damien who made us cocktails & would make my husband chuckle with the things he would say... Drinks were good, very strong, so if you want a small measure you will need to tell them when to stop pouring, politely of course!! We found the food was good considering comments & the usual experience of all inclusives i had been too, yes sometimes the lunches were abit dull but they always made up for it in the evening with a theme night for every evening. One of our favourites was oriental night. I personally loved the hotel, having cystic fibrosis i am unable to walk long distances or walk stairs, and the lifts are always available with hardly any wait and the pool area flat. The pools were lovely and we were able to get our spot everyday by the pool without having to save the sunbeds with towels even at 10am or later... We have both said we would definately want to stay again, we only stayed for a week, I thiink a fortnight would be too much for us but ten nights would be perfect. We went at the end of september so there wasn't so many children around, but there also wasn't so many british people either. We did make a few friends however. The only poor thing I would have to comment about is the lackk of entertainment in the evening. but your holiday is what you make it and we made sure it was great!! Would definately return. Has been one of my favourite holidays so far.... Thank you Playa La Arena

Room Tip: I requested a low room because of my illness and thats what i got, not too far from reception, no no...
