“Bit outdated hotel, but beautiful location”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

The two real positives about this place are the location and the staff.

The resort consists of a main building with all the central facilities like the reception, restaurant and bar. It also has a number of cottages, nicely situated in the large garden. It is located right on the waterfront of Lake Bunyonyi, with great views over the hills and the lake. We stayed in one of the cottages in the garden. Our room was very spacious, but also outdated. It looks like it had not been maintained for quite a while. The hotel was suffering from a lot of power outages during our two day stay and because we were the only guests, they did not want to have the generator on all the time. But that meant that sometimes we did not have warm water to shower (the boiler does not work when the power is out).

As said, we were the only guests and staff really tried their best to serve us properly and have everything available even with the power outages. It was a bit surreal to be the only persons in the very spacious general area and have music played for you when you are having a pre dinner drink.

The food was just ok, like during the whole trip. Not spectacular, but it was nice food.

We stayed for two nights, to have a relaxing day during our safari trip and it was very relaxing indeed. The small garden and the terrace that belonged to our cottage did provide a nice relaxing atmosphere and we did see quite a few different birds on our premises.

But it needs a maintenance update, especially redecorating the rooms and the common areas. Everything is not bad, but it just appears very dated.

We appreciate the time taken by our clients to review our hotel. Indeed since then a lot of improvements have been made. The photo is out dated and the hotel more modern. We have solar energy for the cottages, the parking has been paved, we are making better more comfortable chairs for the dining room and the cottages. The cottage balconies have been renovated. We shall continue to make this place comfortable and enjoyable for you. Please visit our community projects and plant trees, tea seedlings, coffee, donate a piglet, solar lantern or a life jacket to school children. You can also help build an energy saving stove for a school. The best way to enjoy this place is to get out and explore the local village. The sunset view from the hilltop above the hotel is heavenly. You can see the volcanoes and the lake as well as the highlands surrounding the lake. Take a hike along the village paths, it's safe and the people are friendly. Our staff can guide you. We also have bicycles, canoes, a boat and fishing gear. This is a countryside hotel and its for people who enjoy the outdoor life. You can also swim in the lake on a hot day but take care to cool your body before you plunge in. We welcome all ideas to make this a truly incredible place. Thank you.
