Title says it all. But to more concrete: the view and surroundings are stunning. Our room (lake side, nr 21) was very old and the matras almost makes it to the ground when you just look at it. The food was truly horrible or order African food. We had T-bone and a pizza, which was not wise. A sweaty slobbery pizza and a very very well done T-bone came to our table. Breakfast was ok, nothng too special. We are probably not coming back.

We had a semi detached room which was very quiet. The views are stunning. The room is very basic and a tad on the small side, but clean.A note of caution, beware the clay style floor can be slippery when wet. For the price we felt it was incredibly good value particularly when breakfast was included. Would stay again.

Was at the place when 2 groups of youngsters were roaming around at night. Disco with the new boom-boom and singing loudly. Second night I was moved but still, it can be very noisy. .
Breakfast with heavy greasy stuff.

Room Tip: NOISE due to groups: Check before accepting your room location

This hotel and conference centre is situated right on Lake Kivu and offers stunning views from many of the rooms and the dining room. Even the basic rooms are fine and the more expensive rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food on offer was good for the class of hotel and given the waiting times for food in Rwanda, it was helpful to have times on the menu. Although a little way out town, it was an easy and pleasant walk with lots of opportunities for birdwatching - and being able to take a sightseeing boat from the hotel was a bonus. This is an excellent example of a mid-range Rwandan hotel.

Room Tip: Depends on what you want to pay.

My friend and I walked for ages in search of this place from the bus station since we knew vaguely where it was but no one could tell us exactly where on the lake. We eventually found it perched at the foot of a hill on the other side of Kibuye and were pleasantly surprised by its beauty. Just make sure you walk on the path/road that goes pass the National Blood Transfusion centre and the hill towards the right as you face the lake. Not easy to walk with luggage, by the way. A taxi will cost you 5000 RFr.

We arrived without reservation and were quoted 25 000 Rwandan francs for a single occupant or 35 000 RFr for a double. We tried to barter it down to 40 000 for two singles but to avail. 25 000 is perfectly fine since we were only staying for the night. We took rooms 23 and 24 with balconies directly facing Lake Kivu.

The pricier options further down the chalet-style complex were nothing special and, in fact, they felt more like a proper monastery than our rooms by the lake which were akin to ones you’d find in a holiday camp.

The rooms are nothing special – very, very basic with no wifi despite what had been promised. Nor did we have hot water and the shower was just a drip which management later blamed on the pump. There are just three channels on the TV but plenty of sockets. Wifi is much better at reception and at the restaurant whose food is pretty decent (5000-7000 for mains but slow service, however). Breakfast included a buffet of fruits, warm meat, vegetables, toasts, bread, tea, coffee, eggs and oatmeal. The views are spectacular and it’s very, very tranquil – unless you get a bunch of American fratboys staying there.

Bring insect repellent and if you’re scared of geckoes, don’t ever stay here; it makes Southeast Asia look tame in comparison.

Steep steps, too, so those with a disability might find the whole compound in getting down to the lake a complete struggle.

The boutique lakeside Moriah hotel nearby is much pricier from 120 USD upwards. Similar-priced food at their restaurant, however.

Visa cards gladly accepted at Bethany.

Bethany is highly recommended for a night or two. There isn’t much to do other than to relax or take a boat trip. Check out time is 10am.

Stayed here in July 2013. The location of this hotel is wonderful with beautiful views of the lake. Food was good/average overall, nice quiet dinner. Rooms are clean with nice crisp sheets. Housekeeping was highly attentive - immediately upon my arrival I was asked if I wanted a table and chair for my room. I had not really thought about this - they immediately brought me a table and chair before I could barely answer. Only drawback as in many hotels in this part of the world - the walls are paper thin and one can hear absolutely everything from the room next door. Thankfully, everyone seems to be going to sleep very early at night and it is pretty quiet. Definitely recommend this place.

While this guest house is nicely situated on the shore of Lake Kivu, it seems to suffer from management measures geared to curb cost level so as to improve return that new investors, who took over, expect from this facility. Above all cheaper rooms are quite basic and offering just minimum comfort while the more expensive ones are of a better standard. Well being of guests is though impacted by limited availability or poor quality of items such as towels, power connectors, bathtub, furniture etc. Kitchen is slow and dishes offered not too pleasing: extremely mediocre breakfast, overpriced lunch and dinner meals (substandard as compared to near-by Moriah Hill which offers various items such as sweets at lower cost). As gardening works are done selectively only, natural environment is being impacted by growing neglect unfortunately.
