We traveled to Meat Cove in July of 2010. Sorry this is late coming, but just now making up my scrapbook for this wonderful trip. Meat Cove had some strange reviews...which, perhaps, made it all the more interesting..and just had to trek out there to the end of the earth. We found it to be everything we love about a place...remote, a little on the rough side (which means not a tourist trap...yeah!!!), and stunningly beautiful. We found the Hines Lodge to be more of an adult hostel than a lodge. Definitely primitive, but the view was fantastic and the opportunity to mingle with the other residents made it a true adventure. We rented kayaks at the waterfront, a short drive or walk down off the cliff. We also ate at the little cafe for dinner....all just perfect. The kayak shop also had a little cafe and I tried the chowder....absolutely NO WHERE have I eaten anything that good! Everyone was very friendly....we had no bad experiences. There were no weird types ...just decent people trying to make a living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. If you are expecting a four star establishment...go elsewhere. This is one step above camping....but....you will never forget it...EVER.
