“Great value hotel. Ideal for Twickenham”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We have just returned from the St Giles hotel after booking 6 rooms for 12 people as we were all going to see the Army v Navy game at Twickenham.
we had read mixed reviews, but as we were paying £60 per person for two nights, we were happy for somewhere just to sleep!
On arriving at the hotel, the desk staff were pleasant and helpful, even though we were arriving at 10.30pm.
I checked us all in and we went to our rooms.
I had organised the trip and was more than surprised about the room.
We had booked doubles, twins, a triple and a single.
The rooms were spotlessly clean.
Myself and my husband has a double. The bathroom was sparkling clean with plenty of towels.
The room had a small fridge, tea and coffee facilities, a hairdryer, plenty of wardrobe space, flat screen tv, safe and fully controllable heating/cooling system.
The breakfast was great quality. Full english with a choice of eggs. Toast, jam, croissants, cereals, fruit, yogurt, juices and tea and coffee. It was buffet style and you could have as much as you liked.
The train station was literally two minutes walk away and a five minute ride to Twickenham.
The hotel bar was very reasonable, £3 for a pint, however I think that these were special rates for the Army/Navy weekend. the bar food was also cheap at £5.95 for burger and fries and the restaurant was £10.50 for two courses from the set menu.
I did not eat there but a few people in our party did, they said it wasn't gourmet but that the food was ok.
All in all, we had a fab weekend and I am waiting for the rooms to be released for next year!!
We and all members of our party will definitely return, even if it's not for the rugby as it was only 20 mins on the train in to London!

You get what you pay for at this hotel, chosen for location. Restaurant staff really good, my meal was really salty and an exchange was made with no problem. The cleaner in the room seemed to have an objection to removing the beer glasses from the night before, and to washing the cups, but we sorted that ourselves, and would stay here again.

Do not be put off by the austere 1960s look of the building! Inside it is an attractive modern hotel with good facilities at a budget price. The room was clean with a good TV and staff were helpful. We were worried about the 490 bus service to the airport but waited only 5 minutes in either direction. They allowed us to park our car for 8 days as part of the cost of the room so taking that into accoun the room was essentially free.

My room was comfortable and clean with plenty of space. I found the staff to be very polite and competent. There is no WIFI in the room which was a bit disappointing.
Continental breakfast was only sweet dishes available and there was only a small selection of bakery. Location was not that central but overall the stay at this hotel was OK. If I had to fly to Heathrow I definitely would stay here again.

First impressions - poor. Front of hotel looks more like a 1980's swimming pool with clear signs of poor/no maintenance.
Booking in process was industrialised and impersonal.
Room was okay but with an air conditioning unit clearly showing signs of excessive use - a service was well overdue. The mattress was something you'd expect to find in a cheap bedsit and playing avoid the knackered spring proved entertaining.
Continental breakfast included in price. This consisted of croissants and watered down fruit juice. An upgrade to a full English comprised overlooked sausages, watery eggs and clearly diluted beans. The orange juice was also more water than juice and clearly began life in the discount section.
Fortunately the hotel was only a fraction of this particular trip. Had it been the focal point I would have been unimpressed.
