“Sunday roast”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

4 of us ate at 4.30 pm today, interior of pub nicely decked put in classy gastropub style. Meant to order at bar but barmaid came to us & we ordered roast pork, a chicken dish, pumpkin veg option and a Guinness & ale pie. I had pork & there was lots of it & very lean; veg nicely done & roasties were good too. Everyone very happy with food & service - way above average pub food highly recommended.

“Compliments to the Chef !”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Really Really good t-bone steak on Tuesday 7th at the Blacksmiths, cooked to perfection. The whole family (6 of us) said how much they enjoyed their meals.
Nice pub, nice atmosphere looking forward to returning next year for the beer festival.

“Pleasant place for Sunday lunch”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

I've been to this pub at least once a year over the past three years, and generally the food is of a good standard. Seven of us (from various parts of the country, and one from Canada) had Sunday lunch in September and everyone was very happy with their meal, and some were ecstatic (home made pate) Portions are generous, and served hot, and for Sunday lunch there was a choice beyond the 'roast dinner' option., No problem to have two starters as mains for the lighter appetites amongst us. Only gripe was that the barmaid forgot one of our party's pot of tea, however she did seem quite flustered with some busy orders at the bar and when I reminded her she apologized profusely. The staff were welcoming and courteous and it was a very pleasant meal with friends. The interior is well kept with lots of wood decor.

“Typical country pub...”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

This is a typical country pub with no airs or graces, The food is acceptable with a good varied choice. The only thing I felt was missing was the fact there were no soft sitting areas, by that I mean no armchairs or sofa's, just full of dining tables & chairs. The beer was good and I would call again if in the area.

“Metal work found in meal”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Well, I took 2 friends to the Blacksmith tonight (9 Sep 13) as I have been once before and much enjoyed. Sadly, one of my friends found a piece of metal in her food and could not face eating any more. We informed the waitress who said she would let the chef know. We then asked for the bill and surprise - she was charged the full price for her meal and informed 'the chef says he is very sorry and the scourer has now been thrown out'. Sadly I would have questioned paying for an unsatiisfactory meal, but my friends just wanted to leave. Sorry Blacksmiths, you have lost 3 customers and I won't be recommending you to any other friends (I found out about you via word of mouth).
