Went on a Tuesday night 3 others for a meal, very busy. Burger was very good, friends enjoyed their food also. Good beer selection. One niggle though, I do find it irritating when being served at the bar, the staff talk to each other and they take your money and give change without acknowledging you. Overall, a good experience, would very much go back.

This is a pub situated in the pretty village of Llanmaes, not far from Llantwit Major with ample parking.

I have eaten here with hubby and friends on several occasions and felt it deserved a mention as we've only ever had good meals in the restuarant. I would describe it as being more than your usual pub grub.

Our favourite time to go is on a Tuesday for their "Tuesday Night is Steak Night" deals, where you can get a steak from £10 (information correct at time of writing this), though it is recommended that you book for this to ensure a table. The other meals on the menu are also very good and if you have a sweet tooth and enjoy your deserts, then you won't be disappointed. The desert menu is ever changing, with it arriving at your table on a small chalk board. The desert selection, although small, is always very good, always delicious and very, very tempting.

The staff are always friendly and helpful but on busy nights you need to be prepared for a bit of a wait, but as you can get drinks from the bar, you won't feel left out.

Have ate here a number of times in the past most recently in April 13. The food is generally always very good sometimes the service can be a little slow.

We've been to the Blacksmiths a few times over the past year or two whilst visiting family.

Every time we've been the standard has been great. Good value decent pub food which is served quickly by friendly and competent staff.

It's got a lovely family feel to the place and seems to be visited by locals often which is a good sign.

We'll no doubt be back next time we're in the area!

We went for lunch here following the recommendations we read on Trip Adviser and were very glad we did - very friendly pub if a little tricky to find! It would help if they put a signpost for it from the main road - we ended up driving all round the village which is a bit of a housing estate really, but we eventually found it! The Sat Nav takes you into a cul de sac in the middle of the houses! If you go, study the map more carefully than we did!!

However, once there we had an excellent light lunch - my husband had ham, egg and chips which was very good and I had the mozzarella, red pepper, mushroom and tomato panini which was much more substantial than I had envisaged - it came with a few chips, lovely dressed salad and home-made coleslaw, all nicely presented on a slate and very reasonably priced too.

While we were there a very elderly gentleman (a local I think) had come in for a curry which he said wasn't as good as usual. The chef then produced a portion from a new batch for the gentleman to take away at no extra cost which made his day!

The menu looked very interesting - another time I would go there for a more substantial meal but we don't live locally!
