My wife and I have just arrived back from a week at this hotel. Firstly I must state this is OUR opinion .Others may see things differently.
Although this is classed as a 4 star (sun) whatever. I would maybe give it three and a half.as cleanliness does not make it 4 star.It is classed as "all inc" maybe not quite true either.
OK...Here are the reasons why ...starting with the Drinks...We knew from the start that they would be localy brewed...and the beer was quite good, the spirits however are something else.I like
spanish brandy, and there was a good selection...but all inc.guests were only allowed two brands
Sobrano.....which is not bad..and the stuff they brew on the island which is...shall we say an aquired taste..also ANY cocktails had to be paid for The other drinks ie vodka, whisky gin etc
with mixers were quite weak.and all the soft drinks...coke ,sprite etc were flat.
I tried a vodka and orange juice ...once...yuck.
FOOD...Breakfast was ok...usual cereals bacon scrambled eggs, sausages(franfurters) good selection of cold meats ,,cheese etc...they also had a cooking station to have fresh cooked fried eggs anyway you wanted...omelettes made to order etc tea and coffee, chocolate etc from a machine...which was surprisingly good...croisants and sweet rolls etc
The juices were....not nice....either to sickly sweet or to weak orange apple tomato.from a 4 * hotel I would expect FRESH juices.
LUNCH...Once again... aduquate very good salad bar plenty of selection..soups were quite nice but very little variety. usually a choice of at least 3 meats 2 fish 2 potato (chips being one always)and pasta/rice It says you can use the pool bar for lunch,we gave it a try ...once
ONE slice of pizza??? and a choice of maybe 3 pasta dishes anything else.....pay for it
DINNER.....Once again ..salad bar soup (usually no choice) I would say there was a decent selection of dishes....(chips every night so you wouldnt starve) meat /fish /pasta /rice. and always a selection of veg,There was also the cooking station which cooked fresh beef.lamb.chicken etc Drinks were served on arrival at your table ,,,but I STILL dont like COLD red wine.
Also, they were pretty good in replacing the hot serving dishes once it was nearly empty,so the food was kept hot most of the time.
Overall..I would say the food lacked some flavour ,and over the week we were there , the menu didnt change that much.....but you wont starve.
I think this hotel certainly caters for the "brit abroad"
FACILITIES...A very good complex for "sport" just across the road from the hotel...Bowls.Tennis, Boulle (petanka) Putting green etc the trouble is ..the local Bowls club
use thie rinks on 4 days...so we had choice of 3 days and had to pay for it.
Mountain bikes could be hired also...for a charge...as long as they were not being used by "the wheelers".
STAFF....EXCELLENT....Could not fault any of them cleaners/barmen/reception...and of course RAFA....the animacion rep who does EVERYTHING
ENTERTAINMENT....Better than I expected..live music nearly every night..(after the bingo lol)
some of it not to the taste of everyone....but on the whole they were pretty good...special mention to the tribute to THE TEMPTATIONS..4 guys who were excellent.
There were also quizes some nights.
POOLS....COLD.....One was suposed to be warmer than the other....it wasnt. The thing we did like in and around the pool area is ....the quiet....no loud music blaring and no noisy reps trying to get you to "join in"
This hotel is also a "SAGA"hotel we found on arrival so has excellent disabled facilities, including a "chair" to hoist into the pool. I have never seen that before anywhere.
Finally..In our opinion this hotel deffinitely caters for "the brit" and the "older adult" ones at that. its certainly not a place for kids..apart from the pool and a very small play area across the road there is nothing for them.Even the surounding area is not "child friendly" there are only 2 hotels in Salgar...and the other closed the night we arrived...so be warned..be sure that everything they say you can use in the blurb.....is open or running...the other hotel transfered all their remaining guests to the San Luis ...then closed early.so we couldnt use their facilities as stated.THE ORIENT restaurant which we could "use"was also closed.
Never the less both my wife and I enjoyed the holiday....and the hotel
WEATHER......2 DAYS WARM RAIN.....The rest, slightly breezy, glorious sunny 72c days
