We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during summertime and everything was as expected. Very clean whith cleaners doing the rooms and changing towels every day. The breakfast served every morning with fresh food avalaible the space of the room very close to a small apartment bathroom and bed perfectly clean and comfortable. Also the hotel is situated in a real Roman country side and it's amazingly peacefull and relaxing with the possibility of walking to Ostia Antica ruins litterally a back to the past experience. The reception staff was always helpfull and polite and the location is perfect as a base for visiting Rome both by car and train and in summertime you will be close to the seaside and pines wood as well. Lovely place and very modern and costumer orientated as well as being a country resort.

Room Tip: Superior Double with garden view offers a good price and extra space

Arriving 3 hours late due to the ferry crossing from Barcelona - we found ourselves trying to locate this place at 10.00pm. I knew it was not easy from the previous reviews, but the place really could do with a sign, especially for a fully loaded car & trailer which had to be reversed on the rough tracks several times before we finally found the correct house. When we did however we received a friendly welcome from the owner who had also cooked for us as we had pre-booked dinner (though we were slightly worried we would not get fed due to the late hour). We ended up with an excellent home cooked meal under the stars & the odd airplane taking off. The food was excellent & we were told all produced on the farm there. We did not have much time to look around in the morning as we had a long drive ahead, but an excellent simple breakfast & relaxing stay overall. Only 1 recommendation - Needs a Big sign!!

Hotel Rodrigo De Vivar May 19

Don't judge a book by it's cover. Although the exterior of the country house seemed a bit tired, we were pleasantly surprised with the room itself. The reviews on TripAdvisor aligned with our expectation and experience. The location was peaceful and very quiet. Dispite being so close to the airport, we could not hear any planes.

Our room was situated on a farm near the restaurant La Kucina. It was in a one story building with a shared parlor in the middle of two rooms, each with their own bathroom and sitting area. This main room had lovely antiques and a shared TV. The rooms were very spacious, well appointed with beautiful antiques, a small flat screen TV (we did not watch TV while we were there) and very clean (I am very fussy when it comes to cleanliness!!). The bed was comfortable and the sheets were white and crisp, as if they had been ironed. The bathroom had a large tub and handheld shower as well as a bidet. Very clean and spacious for Europe standards. The towels were soft and white (new). The only draw back was the hair dryer. It is wall mounted and seemed to be a throughback from the 70's (looked more like a vacuum then a hair dryer.) Unfortunately the hose had been ripped, so the airflow was compromised....however I'm willing to have wet hair to stay in a place like this again.

Breakfast was from 8-10am, so not for the early risers. It was very satisfying and included cereals, croissants, pastries, and yogurt. The coffee was DELICOUS and freshly made to order....served with a fresh sandwich of tuna as well as ham/cheese.

We would have rated this as excellent all round, had someone been available in either of the two offices. The other issue we had was finding the place. Unfortunately, do not rely on Google maps to get you there if you search by the hotel name, as the map incorrectly shows the location in a suburb of the town of Ostia. However, if you search by the address, it directs you to the correct location, even though the first impression is that you are in the middle of someone's farm. As an alternative, there is an office for Rodrigo de Vivar directly beside the entrance to the medieval ruins and castel of Ostia Antica, just as you enter the town of Ostia on the right. The cottages, however, are down a dirt road directly across from the entrance to the castel, about 2kms from this alternate office location. It's quite challenging to find, as there is no good signage. The easiest would be to follow the signs for the restaurant called La Kucina. The outside of the building look very rustic. The entrance to the cottage office and restaurant is to the left and behnd the main building ....not what you would expect.

We went to the farm stay first and there was no one there. We then went to the town office and it was locked, so we went back to the farm stay and the owner had just driven up and we were able to check in (around 6pm). If we wanted dinner, it started at 8pm.
'
The metro train station is very easy to get to with free parking. You can easily walk from the medieval castel. It's about a 25 min train ride to the Colosso (Coloseum). However, be sure to catch the train 1 hour before it's scheduled last train (11:30pm Sun-Thur and 1:30am Fri-Sat). We caught the train at the Colosso at 12:45am and missed the last train to Ostia Antica. It was at 40 EUR taxi ride from the end of the 'Red' line.

Definitely give this hotel a try. You will be pleasantly surprised. Once we knew where it was, we would NOT hesitate to stay there again.

This is an Agristurismo site and there are farm animals and it is really for people with cars. A taxi will bring you to the property, but unless you can walk a good distance you will have to call a taxi whenever you want to go somewhere. It is located close to the Ostia Antica Scavi, but the walk to the ruins will use up most of your energy you need to visit the ruins. Drive or take a taxi. We had the full course dinner for 20 euros each and it was well worth it. We spent two nights at this place with one day visiting the ruins prior to leaving Rome. There are different rooms and houses. Make sure of what you are reserving so you won't be disappointed. Breakfast was simple. If you need to get to the airport prior to breakfast time they will serve you an earlier breakfast. Breakfast is a very simple meal, no toast, but they do have cereal, juice, coffee, and yogurt.

Room Tip: There are farm houses and apartments. The farm house had a metal roof. If you have difficulty slee...

One of the best hotels we stayed in during our two week travels throughout Italy was Rodrigo de Vivar. Our stay at Rodrigo de Vivar started with Maurizio greeting us at the country house outside the town center. Knowing we didn't have a car, he was gracious enough to give us an upgrade and reserve a room in town so we would have easy access to the roman ruins. Maurizio then drove us to our room and even provided us with a little tour of the town, including the location of the train station and the entrance to the roman ruins! The location and service was ideal since we were only there for one night and only there to go to the roman ruins, so this hotel worked perfect for us since the roman ruins is less than a 5 minute walk. Keep in mind however that the country hotel is hard to find and if you plan on taking a cab make sure you have directions to the hotel and a map to show the cab driver. Luckily our cab driver had a GPS and we were able to find the hotel, however without the GPS, we probably would have had a hard time locating the hotel. The room itself was huge compared to the other hotels we've stayed while in Italy, however, the bathroom was small, especially the shower.

Room Tip: If you are interested in easy access to the roman ruins in Ostia, I would suggest reserving a room i...

After months of reading reviews that ranged from terrible to great, we took a chance and booked this resort for it's uniqueness. Thank goodness it was only for one night. It was a total disappointment. As stated in many reviews, it was almost impossible to find, and we too, had to hunt for the manager for over an hour to check in. While the rooms themselves were clean and sufficient, the grounds were in a terrible mess. It looked like a junk yard with broken playground equipment, rusted out machines, and falling down fences. Goats and cats roamed wild everywhere. We had been anticipating a "fantastic, best in Rome meal", only to find that the kitchen was closed and the chef on holiday! We are an easy going family, but this was too much. This hotel should be removed from Trip Advisor until some serious upgrading is done. Would never recommend booking here.

Room Tip: Anywhere but here.

We stayed at Rodrigo De Vivar and after a little confusion got settled into our rooms. Ostia Antica was my favorite part of all of our visit to Rome..... The people were so sincere and friendly. The place, although old and not modern conveniences, was just perfect. I loved it and would return in a heartbeat to this lovely setting.
