This was the last dinner we had in Italy before our plane flight out the next day. We were staying right next door and it is located in a very small group of houses that I don't think I could even call a neighborhood. It is located next to the castle and the 20 or so houses in the complex are a mix of hotel rooms and the homes of the locals. The night we were there, there was birthday party going on next to us and you could tell that this was a frequent place for the locals.
Earlier in the day, we had been told that due to a large party, there were no openings, but we decided to ask anyway. Thankfully, it was a misunderstanding and we were told that they had room for us. We dined outside (it's close to the coast, so a light jacket helps) and the night was beautiful. Our server didn't speak English, so I was flying a blind a bit by ordering one of the daily specials she rattled off. I basically chose the one that she described with the most emotion. It ended up being a pasta with spicy andouille sauce which, while very spicy, was absolutely delicious, as was the tiramisu I had for dessert. The house wine was quite good and very affordable.
Being that it is located in such a small and quaint area, you really felt like you were being cooked a meal from a neighbor's kitchen. It was the perfect way to finish a trip and I would highly recommend it if you're in Ostia Antica for the evening.
