“Loved it!!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

Just returned from a week's stay at Swiss Cottage and we would love to go back tomorrow! Richard and Francesco were so friendly, hospitable and helpful, they made our stay so much more enjoyable. Our boys, 5 and 6, were very welcomed by everyone at Swiss Cottage, it really is a very child-friendly place. There was ample to entertain them with and they didn't once moan about being bored. We stayed in one of the terrace a/c rooms and it was perfectly fine for the 4 of us. Lots of food options suited to everyone available on the beach and in Tekek. There are great snorkelling sites just in front of the resort, we just needed to swim out to them and they were definitely worth the swim. The on-site dive centre is perfect for divers. They run 3 dives daily with super friendly and helpful guides. Just watch out for sandflies on the beach and their incredibly itchy bites. Saying that, not everyone reacts to the bites, my husband and sons were fine.

Room Tip: The seaview bungalows right on the beach looked fab! Unfortunately, we didn't book early enough...

Hi Tammie,
I am sorry I did not get the chance to meet you but its great to hear that Richard and Francesco took good care of you.Swiss Cottage is indeed a good place for kids to play as they can run around in the garden that is surrounded by trees giving shade during the day.
We try to create a good atmosphere for all those who need to getaway from the hustle and bustle and just relax.
Thank you for reviewing us. Hope I will get the opportunity to meet you and your family too someday.

Best Regards,
Swiss Cottage Team

Booked Swiss Cottage after reading reviews on Tripadvisor. We weren't disappointed...on the contrary, we were extremely happy to have stayed here!

- Booked the double bed room with A/C. Garden view right next to a dive center.
- The staff were super friendly and helpful. I loved spending time chatting to them. They make you feel at home straight away! (thanks again...was lovely meeting you guys - Francesco and Angie!)
- Room was clean and had everything we needed. Great shower with hot water.
- Breakfast was great too! Changed every day. Very tasty. Water / Coffee and Tea are free and you can help yourself. Soft drinks cost 3 MYR. Decent choice of drinks there too.
- They have a big living room area where you can relax and have a drink (it's where you have breakfast too). I loved this area as we met so many lovely people and really felt like we were at home during our stay. The Wifi worked great too and they also had some books we could borrow to read.
- They have a dive center on site (we came to dive). Perfect dive center (Tioman Dive Center) again, with great staff!
- There are a lot of cats on site but they've been treated so no worries there! I loved seeing all these cats...and playing with them too! For info, the cats on site belong to Swiss Cottage so nothing to worry about.
- They don't serve lunch / dinner but there are restaurants nearby so this wasn't a problem.

All in all, this was the best part of our Malaysia trip. I'm half Malaysian so I know Malaysia very well...but we had the best time at Swiss Cottage, mostly because the place lived up to our expectations and the people were so friendly too! Great dives, great people, great room...what more to ask for?

Tekek itself is not a very charming place, but entering Swiss Cottage is like comming to an oasis. The staff is frendly, helpful and make you feel at home. One night they arranged dinner in the garden. Soooo cosy:-) This is a place to relax. We stayed in a terrace room and could hear our neighbour very well, but by elleven the whole place was quiet. The beach there is nice but not the best place if you want to go snorkelling. Great value for your money!

The only reason not to stay here is if you don't like cats. The place takes care of 5-6 of them.

I can say that this was one of the best vacations we ever had. We went by Berjaya Air from Singapore to Tioman, and Swiss Cottage is just a 5 min ride from the airport. Starting from the check-in until we left after 4 days, it was all sheer pleasure. Stella and everybody associated with Swiss Cottage are so polite, helpful and go extra miles to make your stay memorable. We were a family of 4 with the younger kid of only 14 months. None of us knew proper swimming, except for my elder daughter. Still, thanks to Stella - she arranged for a boatman, who helped me and my daughter to explore the amazing world of underwater marine life through Snorkelling at Ringgis island. He himself jumped into water and took us all around. Though my younger one felt seasickness, overall that experience we are not going to forget for years to come. And then Stella and her friend took my daughter for Snorkelling little deeper into the sea in front of Swiss Cottage itself. The tranquility in and around the hotel/town and the pristine torqouise water will relax you like never before. We also tried trekking and hired a bike too one day. There are a plenty of food choices available near the hotel - BBQ restaurants, Burger at Cabana, and Veg fried rice for vegetarians (like my wife). It's a duty-free island, so plenty of drinks available to accompany the food. Thank you Stella and Swiss Cottage for this wonderful vacation!!!

stayed there for a few days, had our bungalow facing the beach, with wonderful view of sunset.
the room was spacious, comfortable bed, good shower, good (if small) breakfast that changed every morning, free tea/coffee and cold water available all day. Lovely beach practically on your doorstep, good opportunities for snorkeling.
Staff friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Do spend an extra bit to a have the beach front cabin, totally worth it!

We recently spent 8 days at Swiss Cottage and wished we had longer! We were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and shown to our "Sea Bungalow", one of 5 sea facing rooms. The room was comfy with one of those great beds where the mattress is on a kind of stage. Together with mosquito net and a gentle breeze blowing in through the louver shutters, it made a beautiful picture. We spent many hours relaxing in the hammock and watching the gentle activities of the snorkelled and scuba divers.

This is definitely not a glitzy resort, it is more of a beautiful chilled place for people who don't want to wear shoes or stand at a breakfast buffet. Each day, depending on what is in the pantry, you are given a hot breakfast. Free tea, coffee and cold water all day. Another great touch is the honesty board where you help yourself to beers or soft drinks and simply write it up on the board under you name to settle at the end of your stay. This simple approach is typical of what made us love it so. Everyone is treated with respect and genuine warmth.

An easy walk to many evening food spots, including a great guy on the side of the road selling delicious satay. Excellent sea food barbecues were also special where you select your fish sit back.

Not the very cheapest place of the island but definitely worth every cent. Paying slightly more probably also meant that the guests were not just budget backpackers but rather some well travelled very interesting people from around the world.

With fresh coral just in front of the bungalow meaning great snorkelling and a beautiful beach, this lovely spot comes highly recommended. We hope to make it back from SA when time allows.

Room Tip: Tr sea facing rooms are a good call but are costlier, perhaps the smaller cottage as opposed to the...

We heard about Swiss Cottage from someone who knows someone who knows the owner/hosts.
There was some anxiety from the people who gave the recommendation, thinking it might be a bit basic for the maturer traveller. How wrong! This is the perfect place to relax on a tropical island, without all the fuss of "resort hotels"
We had one of the sea view bungalows. Comfortable bed, efficient fan making AC unescesary, mosquito net which we did not need. Instant hot water in en suite bathroom and toilet. Own deck with table chairs and hammock. Reading, drinks and watching the very few passing people from this deck very relaxing. If you are bored with this then walk the ten steps to the waters edge and start snorkeling right there of your own beach.
When the fish and turtles start to look too familiar the staff will help you organise a boat to one of the small islands near by for snorkeling in different waters. There is a dive school on the premises for those who prefer scuba.
Simple breakfasts are part of the deal served in lovely open dining area which also has an honour bar fridge for evening drinks, also spirits available from the duty free shop about 5 mins walk down the road.
Besides breakfast no meals a served but less than 500m walk are two restaurants one Chinese and the other does fish barbecue. Both serve brilliant food at good prices.
As with many places the secret at Swiss Cottage is the people. Richard and Stella, owner hosts, are amazingly relaxed yet so helpful you will be more than impressed. They both seem to really enjoy meeting and talking to you. Their staff are equally as friendly and helpful somehow combining relaxed island style with efficiency.
If you are looking for basic comfort and friendly host on a beautiful island ....here it is.
