“A fantastic holiday!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

We booked this hotel after reading the reviews on here last year, and have to say it lived up to all our expectations, and more besides! We had a warm welcome at reception, which was very efficient and gave us all the information we needed about the hotel and its many facilities. Our room had a sea view, as booked as part of our package with First Choice holidays, with the front door overlooking the salt water pool - what more could you ask for?
The room was kept spotlessly clean thanks to the daily visit from the maid, who did a great job, but this was reflected throughout the hotel, with all public areas immaculately clean.
We found the food choice excellent, with a good variety of dishes throughout the week, including a couple of themed nights in the restaurant. This was a great improvement on our previous experiences of AI elsewhere. Branded drinks ARE included in the AI package, with the exception of top brands, the supplements for which are clearly shown on the bar tariff on each table. We also enjoyed the opportunity to share a bottle of wine with our dinner.
The evening entertainment was varied, but generally of a good standard, after reading some other reviews on here we were intrigued to see Tonys Band - definitely not the highlight of the week! The entertainment team put on some great shows, especially the Grammy Awards night, this was the last night of our holiday and gave us a great send off! Worth mentioning that this team work all day long, providing activities for adults and kids throughout the day and then performing till 11pm at night, they were amazing, and made everyone feel welcome. The same can be said for the staff throughout the hotel, they gave great service without being too formal.
It is true what they say about the sun beds, by lunchtime you do have to look around to find free ones, though we generally found some available on the lawn by the lower pool. We actually saw someone putting towels out at 12.20am as we went back to our room one night! Don't blame the foreigners, the Brits are as bad as the rest!
The road to the marina wasn't as steep as we'd expected it to be, though the back road through from the spa does give an easier option. Puerto Calero is a beautiful marina, and we took the water bus from there into Puerto del Carmen which was a pleasant 25 min trip. We also used the free bus service from the hotel, just a 15 minute trip and really convenient.
From beginning to end we had a great holiday, thanks to the Costa Calero and their amazing team. We were already thinking about our next visit before we even got home! Thank you again!

Dear guest,

Thank you for having chosen our hotel and for taking your time to write this wonderful review.

We are very happy to hear that you liked your stay here so much and that we succeeded in exceeding your expectations and provide you with great service. So nice that you have liked our “family like” and friendly environment. After all, it is what we are aiming to, create a pleasant warm ambience for everybody to feel at home here.

Thank you for the useful tip for all those who can’t deal with our steep hill, the back entrance for the Spa is an easier option indeed.

On behalf of all our staff,

We are looking forward to welcome you back here soon!

We have just returned from spending 2 weeks at the Hotel Costa Calero - of which we started on the 27th June 2013. The holiday was to celebrate our Daughter Laura;s 30th Birthday. Before we went we asked to have 2 rooms on the 5th floor of which when we arrived, that's exactly what we got with wonderful views over the pool area and looking out over the small harbour which is about a 5 minute walk downhill from the Hotel. The room itself was modern, bright and very clean with a small fridge of which had 2 bottles of water in of which was replenished each day.The hotel is everything that has already been said by other travellers, it's spotlessly clean with staff continuously cleaning all areas throughout the day, and service with a smile - of which goes a long way. The dining room like everywhere else was spotless and served an immense variety of food even for a fussy eater like myself - you never need go hungry at all - the deserts were lovely especially the hot apple strudel with a variety of ice creams on offer each day along with fresh fruits etc, etc, etc!!!!! The staff in the restaurant work tirelessly to ensure that your tables are kept clear of empty plates etc. You can have certain bottles of wine with each meal which was included within the all inclusive package - we liked the white wine - Renee Barbier, it does go straight to your head though - still, why worry, you are on holiday after all!!. The entertainment was inside the hotel in their showbar, which has comfortable chairs to sit in, the evening starts with the children's mini club songs, which lasts for about 15 minutes and then the entertainment for the night, which consisted of tribute bands to the Beatles, The Platters, Magicians, Flamenco dancing, shows by the entertainments team and much more - all the shows were very good apart from Tony's band on the Monday evening, although some songs were OK. Please do join in the club dance of which the women all get up on the dance floor and the Men all get on the stage - it's good fun, and gives you a chance to shake off some of the pounds from that Apple Strudel!!!!!!!!! We went into Puerto De Carmen a few times on the Free shuttle bus from the Hotel, it has all the usual gift shops etc - McDonalds, if you are really hungry - however be warned, it's not cheap, expect to pay at least triple of what you would normally pay at home!!!!!!! We did not do any other trips, even though we did plan to, however the hotel pools and grounds were so nice, that's all we needed for a really relaxing holiday. There is a Kids club, of which is very good, our lovely 4 year old Grandson Archie loved it and even made bracelets for his Mummy and Nanny, of which I am sure they will treasure. One of the Mini Club reps of which they call Miss B, is very loud and funny - you will see her of an evening as well doing the kids dances - it's people like her, who make your holiday, on some days she also does afternoon Bingo, which passes half an hour out of the sun - Archie won medals here for winning bingo and also free passes into the Spa - which is lovely and relaxing. Well all in all an excellent hotel with everything you want, and last of all - the weather was excellent for the 14 days apart from 1 day which was a bit cloudy but still very hot - around the pool it showed that the weather hit 36 deg - their was a breeze, but this was very welcoming. Would we come again - it's a sure bet, however possibly in a few years time, as we like to try different countries.
Have a great time - we are sure that you will!!!!
if you need any questions answered, please get in touch.
Love from the BRENDA's and Tupney!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the 5th floor for great views, we had rooms 546 and 547.

Have just had a week AI at the Costa Calero 27th June -4th July on my own. I could not fault this hotel. The staff were excellent in all areas, the hotel and grounds absolutely spotless. Food was varied and good quality for all meal times and although i didnt go to the evening entertainment the odd bits I saw were very professional. The pools were great, never too many people in to swim especially the salt water pool, sunbeds always available up until 9.30 and then you could usually find the odd one or two around the complex. Am now trying to persuade my partner to come next year! By far my favourite hotel that i have stayed in.

Room Tip: i was in the main building above reception and liked this location Room 406 as easy access to lifts...

This was my third visit to Hotel Costa Calero and definitely my last.
I e-mailed the hotel four months in advance to request a sea view room for a special occasion visit, offering to pay any excess on arrival and received a reply saying that they would make every effort to accomodate me.
On arrival I was allocated the complete opposite of my request, a room (No. 51) which was below pool and amenity level with no view at all.
I immediately raised the matter with the duty receptionist who could offer no alternative other than a suite for an additional 490 euros. With great reluctance I agreed to take the suite, rather than disappoint my wife, to whom I had promised a "special" birthday treat.
The suite was just O.K. We both agree that the quality of food and certainly the evening professional entertainment has deteriorated since our last visit.
On a positive note the hotel entertainment team work really hard and fortunately are very talented.

Room Tip: Learn from my experience - if you want a decent room specify a sea-view and have it confirmed at the...

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel and for taking your time to write this review about it.

We are terribly sorry to hear that we haven’t been able to accommodate you according your preferences at the beginning, but after that, as you are stating, you changed into a nice suite that suites you just right. Please understand that in July we do have really high occupancy with months of anticipation and it is really really hard to manage to upgrade everybody who would like to switch to sea-view room. I am sure that the colleagues from Reception have done everything they could to do it, but it was obviously impossible.

Besides all, we do hope that you are not going to let this annoying detail to ruin your impression of our hotel. In our humble opinion it is not worth it to deprive yourself from the pleasure to visit us again and to enjoy our beautiful pools, gardens and extremely friendly and polite staff just because once there has been a misfortunate shortage of sea view rooms. Especially when previously you have had two lovely vacations at our establishment.

We will be extremely happy if you give Costa Calero a second chance and visit us for the fourth time, we are sure that you will not regret it and we will make up for your disappointment.

Sincerely yours,

Costa Calero team

Stayed here for 2 weeks in June. Hotel was great. We booked 2 adjoining rooms which are perfect for families. Rooms are very nice and have plenty of room.
We stayed all inclusive and both the food and drinks were really good with plenty of choice for food in the restaurants and also great selection of drink to choose from including wine list and most branded spirits etc.
Hotel has 4 pools with one being salt water and one for the kids. Every few days their was inflatables for the kids (and adults) with games running in the pool those days.
Staff all seemed really friendly and helpful.

The only problem I had with the hotel was being forced to were long trousers at night time for dinner. I know some people probably prefer this but I'd rather wear smart shorts. Not a biggie but please change this outdated rule.

If anyone is considering this hotel I'd say go for it you wont have any regrets.

We are extremely happy to hear how much you have liked it here and that we have managed to make your vacation so pleasant.

As far as the dress code for dinner is concerned, we really apologize if it has caused any inconveniences to you, but we consider that there are some etiquette rules that are worth keeping. For now we are not considering on changing it, and please do agree that it is not such a great deal after all, and besides, all hotels have it.

On behalf of all our staff, we are looking forward to your next visit here!

Currently staying here right now. Everything about the hotel oozes class.
Animation team , very good and my daughter has been in the kids club from day one, nighttime entertainment good fun as well some nights being better than others. All staff in the hotel extremely friendly and very helpfull. The grounds bars and venues are spotless and very chic. Swimming pools have something for everyone and again not overly noisy and very chilled. Only problem getting a sunbed , but without sounding like a hypocrite I have been down at 630 each day ( can't beat them join them). Stayed in lanzarote last year and thought I wouldn't beat that hotel....I was wrong this hotel is superb
