Currently staying here right now. Everything about the hotel oozes class.
Animation team , very good and my daughter has been in the kids club from day one, nighttime entertainment good fun as well some nights being better than others. All staff in the hotel extremely friendly and very helpfull. The grounds bars and venues are spotless and very chic. Swimming pools have something for everyone and again not overly noisy and very chilled. Only problem getting a sunbed , but without sounding like a hypocrite I have been down at 630 each day ( can't beat them join them). Stayed in lanzarote last year and thought I wouldn't beat that hotel....I was wrong this hotel is superb

We have just returned from 11 nights all inclusive at the costa Calero and were not dissappointed in the least.

We were in room 38 which was lovely at the end of the block and the patio led out to a nice grass area that had sun loungers so we could chill out in the afternoons when my boyfriend had had to much sun, I was alble to still sunbathe and it was only 2/3 min round trip from the room to the bar!! The room was lovely and spaceous and was kept imaculatly clean by the maids.

All the hotel grounds are kept imaculate and plenty of sunbeds while we were there the hotel was full so if you did want a certain spot you did need to get up early to get your beds, there were still odd beds available later on but not nessaceraly together.

Reception desk very helpful and a quick efficent check in, you can hire pool towels at 10 euros each and then you just change them as often as u want from the hotel shop, you can also hire the safe in the room at 2 euro a day and a 5 euro deposit. We hired a car from the hotel for 2 days at the cost of 51 euros( £45).

Main Restuarent for breakfast and dinner was nice and spaceous with a large outside area and seperate areas inside which made it feel not to busy, we loved the fact that you could order wine by the bottle in the evening as we both like different ones so we used to have half bottle of red and rose. The food was plentlyful and always a lot of choice even myself who is quite fussy always found some thing to eat.The lunchtime restuarent was always stocked with plenty of varied food but it did get a little hot if you sat towards the back of the room area as it was under a glass roof.

We didnt really join in with any activities with the entertainment staff, but they were all very friendly and not annoying when u said you didnt want to join in, we only made the evening entertainment once but this was really enjoyable and we enjoyed it.

All the bars served a variety of drinks and the plus side was deffinatly you could ask for named spirts which made a lovely change for an all inclusive hotel. I recieved a bottle of champagne in a iced bucket in our room on my birthday which was a lovely touch and we enjoyed chilling out on our grass area one afternoon.

The marina was only a 5 min downhill walk and about a 10min steep uphill walk back to the hotel, there was a large choice of restuarents and a few bars along with a supermarket and up market designer shops, the restuarents seemed reasonably priced we had a chinese 1 night and it wasnt expensive.

All in all we had a super holiday and we will definatly be returning, there was only 1 downside we had a few bad encounters from some other guests who totally moved our sunbeds when we had just popped to the reps welcome meeting and also being pushed out of the way while i was getting something from the restuarant, but i think certain nationallitys behave this way all the time, and it was not the hotels fault in any way,

My partner and I have just returned from holidaying at Costa Calero for 1 week. We had a ground floor room extremely clean, staff helpful, food and drinks excellent. Plenty of sunbeds available around the 3 fantastic swimming pools. Even if you arrive late you will always find a couple spare. We could not fault this hotel at all. We booked via Travel Republic and everything was seamless from start to finish could fault this company at all.

Room Tip: All rooms have a garden or sea view.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the costa calero hotel from 13th June for 14 nights. On arrival the outside of the hotel looks like one of her majesty's prisons but once you get inside you see just how hard the staff work to keep this place clean, spotless in fact. We checked in and were given room number 189 which is right at the bottom of the complex, very last room on the ground floor. When we got to our room we wasn't that impressed but the room grew on us and by the end of the holiday the mrs loved it. What we didn't love though was the toddler that cried in the room next door every time he didn't get his own way but that can't be helped, its the parents fault not the hotels. The only down side to the room was that when the shower curtain was pulled across you had to remember where you had put your soap as it was very dark with the way the lighting was situated. The hotel grounds itself were outstanding, plenty of sunbeds even if you didn't want to get up at stupid o clock to put towels down you'd still be able to find a couple but not in a prime location near the pool and bar. The bar/waiting staff and animation team were incredible, attention to detail and smiles made it a more enjoyable place to be around. The entertainment on a night time was of a good standard compared to previous holidays and the animation teams nights of entertainment was generally quite funny. Tony's band was brilliant (I had been drinking all day and night though!!!) and there was always a place to sit down in the main entertainment area. The piano bar always got filled up rather quickly but we managed to get a seat a couple of nights. As me and my girlfriend are in our 20's the hotel was quiet but to be honest we enjoyed it chilling out with the saga lot, then as term time at school finished it got abit louder but nothing drastic. The food was excellent, anyone that says its not needs to stop sticking to the same meal every night and try some different, more than enough variety! The all inclusive drinks were brilliant too all branded drinks. If your a steak lover definitely go down to the marina to la portena, the best fillet steak I've ever had. Also the Irish bar is a good laugh. Overall a relaxing, enjoyable stay and would I return again.... Yes, definitely

Dear guest,

Thank you for choosing our hotel and for taking your time to write such a marvellous review about it.

The hotel’s rigid façade is really a bit deceiving but once you get in you discover its enchantment and beautiful interior design and grounds.

We are very happy that you have liked everything about your stay here and that you are planning on visiting us again.

Recently returned from this hotel having been there 3 times before. On the positive side , the hotel grounds are lovely and clean and the gardens are beautifully kept, the pools are lovely and also very clean and well kept. Plenty of sun beds but unless you are willing to get up before breakfast to secure your place you will struggle to get a sunbed anywhere within the complex. People reserve the beds and do not appear until after lunchtime to take up there places.
The room was adequate , quite small but ok but the bathroom was tiny, we are both average size any bigger and would have had a problem sitting on the toilet, the room was also extremely hot most of the time, even with the air con on, but as I don't spent much time in my room this was not a major issue.
The biggest difference we noticed from our previous visits was the food quality, I would have recommended this hotel before, but the food quality and choice of food has sadly gone down a great deal and would not recommend on this basis.
I do not think I am a fussy eater but some days could not find the components of a decent meal. Having been here before we notice the change, the hot counters cooking chicken or meat rarely had any meats cooked and when they did the were not very nice, some food was good , nice soups and some good desserts.
As for the staff in the restaurants ,some of them were very good I recognised staff from our first visit over five years ago, these are experienced and friendly, but they seem to have a large number of very young waiting staff some who are very good but a lot who don't seem to know what they are doing and looking by their faces they wish they were somewhere else, seem to be quite short staffed and they appear to work very long shifts.
Having been to a number of all inclusive hotels I think that this is not the best, if you have small kids and want snacks for them during the day be prepared to walk to the shop in the nearby harbour and buy your own , unless they like cheese and ham toasted sandwiches as this is all you will be able to get.
Sorry to sound so negative , but sad to see the hotel that was our first experience of all inclusive change so much and not for the better .

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel and for taking your time to write this opinion.

We were really surprised reading through the issues you are concerning in your review. Normally people comment on how good we have managed to keep our high standards through the years and that we even get better and better with time.

As far as the sunbeds problem, the hotel management really can not prohibit people to leave their towels on them, but we assure you that the number of the sunbeds we provide are more than enough for every single guest of the hotel.

We are very sorry to hear that the food wasn’t of your liking as we always aim to offer large variety and quality in our buffets. And we have large selection of meats, chicken and fish, especially on the hot counters, and in the live show cooking section.

If you allow us to remark that in our opinion the toasted sandwiches you can get in between mealtimes here are a lot healthier choice for kids than any snack you could get in the supermarket, but this is just an observation.

Once again, we sincerely regret the fact that this time you weren’t satisfied with your vacation here, but we do remain with the hope that you will consider us again in the future and will give the hotel a second chance.

Greetings from Puerto Calero!

Returned once again,June 2012, October 2012, June 2013...
This hotel never dissapoints. We always have a room on the top floor with beautiful views of the marina and sea beyond. (Big thank you for Julian who always allocates us a lovely room)
The staff are so friendly and helpful and always have a smilw for you even though they are extremely busy.
The food and wine choice are lovely, we go All inclusive but do tend to go out and explore during the day so ate out most lunchtimes.
It is worth walk into Puero del Carmen, round the cliffs, takes about 60 mins depending how fast you walk, brings you right into the old town. The trip to the quiet bay of playa quemada, which is about a 60/90 min walk away from Puerto Calero (opposite direction to Puerto del Carmen),we walked one way but got a taxi back the 1st time we visited, recently though we went by car. The little restaurants on the front serve really tasty garlic prawns.
Also try "Playa Honda, and "El Golfo", lovely, lovely places.
Puerto Calero marina has a small market on every Tuesday and Friday mornings, well worth a visit, the walk back up is a tad tiring though

My husband and I stayed at the Costa Calero for a week in June. We requested a high floor room with a double bed and we were given a 5th floor room with a fantastic view. The hotel was spotlessly clean and was perfect for a relaxing week away. We ate, drank and relaxed by the pool. The food was good and there was plenty of choice, the drinks were included as part of the all inclusive which we couldn't fault, and It was a treat to have cava included at breakfast and dinner.
The pool was freezing but it looks so inviting that you have to brave it and get straight in. We used the infinity pool which was a great size and not very deep.
We experienced a problem with people reserving sunbeds with towels, as others have too. We don't agree with it but as they say if you can't beat them, join them. All the beds were in good locations round the pools but it seemed certain ones were reserved very early.
The aqua areobics was very entertaining and the team work very hard.
The average age of the guests was 60yrs+ but as a couple between 30-40 looking for a relaxing week away it was fine. Although the odd guest was quite rude when it came waiting their turn to be served at the bar.
There is a free bus to puerto del carmen which is very handy and its worth going to see the sandy beach. We also did the volcano trip which I would definitely recommend.
Overall we had a lovely holiday and didn't want to leave. I definitely don't think it'll be our last visit to the Costa Calero.
