Reviewed July 23, 2014

We stayed for 4 days in July, we enjoyed our stay last year (september) so we decided to return for a few days of relaxation and quality time together (after 3 days of walking in sweating in Rome :-)).
We enjoyed this stay very much as well and we love the hotel as it has a lot of good things going for it, even though it also has a few weak points. It might not be a 'true 5*' but if you consider the prices they charge, I consider it good for the price.
We stayed all inclusive and we found it to be very good value for money again.
I e-mailed the hotel a few days before arriving to request a room close to the room we had last year (because we found the location very convenient) and they allocated us the room next to that one, very nice. We were also given a bottle of cava and some chocolates in the room for being loyal to the hotel. These little things always make a difference!

The room was as expected (room 501). Not overly luxurious but very spacious, all rooms have two doubles of 1,20m wide. We both love the beds and we slept very well. The air conditioning actually works very well (this is not the case in all hotels!) and the room was always nice and cool. Everything was clean, the bathrooms could do with an update but they are large and everything you need is there, including a double sink. A huge tv (among the largest we have seen in a hotel) with many tv channels in HD (unfortunately no BVN like last year) for the ones that like to watch tv while being on holiday ;-)

Most of the staff members were very friendly (an improvement compared to last year), even though some (a young woman at the pool bar) could do with some training. This is what happened: Our flight home was only leaving in the night so we decided to extend our all inclusive untill 4pm for an aditional 15€ each (so we could have lunch and a few more drinks in the afternoon). When I ordered drinks at the pool bar about 3pm, the young woman at the bar insinuated that we were abusing the all inclusive system as we were no longer registered in the room that I gave her (obviously other people had been checked in already after we checked out) so she didn't want to give us the drinks. She kept on saying 'NO' and she insisted that we go to the reception to clear this out (she could have phoned the reception herself because she had a phone right there). This left a bit of a bad taste, especially because she didn't apologise after we proved her that we extended our all inclusive untill 4pm. Not a big thing and it didn't really affect our stay but still...

Reception staff was very friendly and professional, the check in went smooth and a glass of cava was offered. Restaurant staff was all friendly and professional as well. Drinks were brought to the table during all meals (the house wine and cava are very decent quality and all soft drinks are bottled btw.) and tables are allocated after entering the restaurant. During all meals the atmposhere is very relaxed and that is one the reasons we decided to return to this hotel (no chaos, no kids running around and there is a lovely outside terrace to enjoy all meals and even inside it feels like a 'real restaurant' opposed to the 'canteens 'that many hotels have). We found that the food had improved a bit, compared to last year. A decent selection of warm food and salads (not the best we have seen but very acceptable) and with a lovely selection of desserts (one of their stronger points). The 'fruit fly' problem from last year at the salad bar was also solved. The themed nights were better than last year and there is now a choice of eating in 3 different restaurants if you are on all inclusive, without any supplement (even though we didn't do this, because we like to sit outside and the a la carte restaurant didn't have a terrace).

The all inclusive is good value, with many branded drinks included. We love the lower pool and bar with the amazing sea view terrace, they play some lovely chill out music there too (not the tacky beach disco that you hear in most hotels). All pools were clean and one is heated to 30°C, they are working on the 'worn out sun bed' problem as we saw new sunbeds being brought every day during our stay. Cleanliness around the pools is still a bit of a problem as the area doesn't get swept often enough (this should be done everyday, not every 2 weeks..). We didn't see this happen once and the same dirt (leaves and palm fruits on the ground everywhere) was there during our whole stay.

Unfortunately the Lanz beach club (the lower beach bar) wasn't open anymore and this was one of the places that we loved so much during our last stay. A dissapointment.

We love the location of the hotel and we love Puerto Calero but you should be aware of the fact that this is NOT a party destination! There is no real beach to speak of but we love the hotel jetty in the sea.

From all the all inclusive hotels in Lanzarote that we have stayed at (H10 Rubicon Palace, Costa Calero hotel, Dream Gran Castillo and the Hesperia) I think that the Hesperia is now our favourite if I look at the' full package' so we would definitely consider returning a 3rd time.

The hotel was perfect! Beautiful grounds, rooms and location.
The restaurants there are great and would recommend el risco.
The staff are very helpful. Cristian was great and very helpful.
All inclusive was Great I'd recommend.
Only issue is it takes a while to get drinks at bars but other than that it's great!

We are currently staying at this hotel for a week.. Don't normally do reviews till we get home but thought we would as it's such a lovely place to be.. Lots of sun beds available at all times. Makes such a difference to the usual stampede at stupid o'clock in the morning.. Food is so nice with everything you can think of.. From picking your own meat or fish for the chief to cook to a huge variety of already cooked buffet.. Also two a la cart restaurants to choose from. Staff all very friendly and nothing too much trouble.. Very laid back and relaxing atmosphere.. Definitely will be back...After a general enquiry at reception today, we said how much we were enjoying our holiday and the hotel and staff were fantastic and would be back.. We returned to our room this evening to a bottle of fizz 2 glasses and chocolates. What a lovely personal touch... Please don't listen to any moans and groans. This is a fantastic hotel.. Don't want to leave!!

Room Tip: We have a room which looks out onto the pool.. Easy access to everything.. Modern, Clean, well maint...

We have just returned from a week in this hotel (July 2014) and we chose it based on the Trip Advisor reviews around the food especially the Gluten Free Menu, and we were not disappointed.
The food was probably the best we have experienced after holidaying all over the world, this hotel ticked every box for us from selection to quality and not one did our group of six ever find cause to complain about anything at all (5 Star) all day long.
The attention to detail was first class and the staff were the friendliest we have come across from the pool bars to the 3 excellent restaurants.
This resort I very quite and there is a Marina you within walking distance but if your looking for a quite but quality get away look no further.
All have our party have vowed to return in the Winter months which I think is praise indeed, I would classify this stay as 5 Star Lux, the only caution I would add is make sure that if you male you take trousers as all the restaurants insist on this minimum dress code in the evening.

Room Tip: Most Rooms are Sea/Pool views

Dear Guest,

Thank you very for sharing your comments about your stay at our hotel last July here on Tripadvisor.

I am really sorry for the delay on our answer to such a good review. We definitely appreciate your feedback and it a great motivation to our employees. I also would like to let you know that we are thinking to have some other gluten free products available at the hotel on this coming year.

I truly hope to welcome you back in this coming year.

Happy New Year from Lanzarote,

Arrived home last night after a week here. Those who say on here that it is 5* have clearly never stayed at a true 5*. Reception area was gorgeous, but that's about it. Rooms 4* at best. Woke up at 9am twice by maids coming in room. Mini bar fridge wasn't cold so constantly buying drinks. Only English channels were sky news and BBC world service. Pool bar food was awful. Crazy golf - the less said the better. Breakfast was good but can't comment on lunch/dinner as we were only b&b. No beach. Most of the staff were great and very helpful. Puerto Calero - stunning. Some cracking restaurants and views to die for.

We have stayed here for one week and honestly a faultless service set in a beautiful location Puerto calero. The staff have been helpful in every way. A member of staff Christian was memorable constantly willing to help, friendly and welcoming most helpful. The three restaurants were fantastic quality and amazing service, the buffet restraint was of a very high quality . buffet is a horrible thought for me but this one quashed all fears the food was all fresh with chefs on site excellent all round and the near by port has many excellent restraints on bars in a classy tack free setting. Well done all
