Booked 3 nights in this hotel as an add on to a family holiday where we had gone to Lanzerote for a wedding. We stayed in a Villa and then when the rest of the family went home my best friend and I thought we would chill out at this "5" Star Hotel and Spa for 3 nights. A bit of pampering would be nice. How wrong can you be! Check in was good and the Bell Boy, Joseph (who works from 10am to 7pm and is the only Bell Boy for a 5 Star Hotel!!!!) was lovely and extremely professional. We were taken to a room with a King Size Bed. The booking clearly said Twin Beds and the Receptionist could clearly see 2 women standing in front of him! We then had to wait 30 minutes for Joseph to get us another room. as other guests were also checking in. The room was lovely and the view from the balcony beautiful. Only problem air conditioning was useless, even when it was supposed to have been fixed! In general though room was nice. We had booked B & B. Breakfast looked very good and the staff were very efficient. However, on closer look there were random flies landing on fruit and pastries. If this is a problem for them then use covers. The selection was good otherwise, just the fly problem really. Still not 5 star standards by any means. We did find a couple of sun beds and to be fair they do have notices all around the pool areas to say that sun beds cannot be reserved or the towels will be removed. The only problem, is there are no pool staff to remove the towels that were put down! We were at the lower Pool and Pool Bar the first day. The Pool was freezing. A member of management assured us the following day that this was the pool that was heated - as we were at the top Pool the following day. She said she would check and she would get back to us. We never saw her again! Old sun beds of the blue variety were not fit for people to lie on them and what appeared to be the newer ones were not in good condition either. A lot were ripped or broken. We did take pictures! We went to the Pool Bar to get a drink and i had to wait for 15 minutes as a member of staff who had a T Shirt with "Lifeguard" on it was serving drinks as well as cooking snacks, serving them and cleaning around the bar. He did have a young girl helping him on occasion, but it was appalling and if anyone was drowning there would be no chance he would be in a position to save them. No lifeguards or staff around the pool, only in the snack bars. The Entertainment guy we saw with the "Animacion" T Shirt was cleaning later on in the afternoon and clearing the big ashtrays! It appears they are cutting down on the number of staff they have to save money. We ordered 2 beers, 1 sprite and 2 plates of chips (plastic cups and plates). This came to 30 Euros!!! Unbelievable!!! I was going to use the Spa, however I decided then that they were certainly not going to get any more of my money. The showers around the pools were a health hazard. Green mould and cracked bases. When we went out to go to The Marina for a meal the pool area at the bottom was riddled with plastic cups etc. having not been cleared. My friend and I have taken pictures including a picture of a random light that was broken and lying on the ground with wires still attached. Who on earth decided that this hotel was worth 5 Stars. As other reviewers have said. If you have paid 5 star rates to stay here then you would be sorely disappointed. Attention to detail is a big fat zero and their Head Office as well as the Lanzerote Tourist Board (or whoever gives out their ratings) will be getting the benefit of my opinion as it put a damper on an otherwise lovely holiday.. There were other things that were not good, however I am sure anyone reading this has got the picture. Stay in a villa. We much preferred it even though our villa could have been better it was still good enough for a holiday. Definitely hire a car if your go to Puerto Calero or surrounding area. There is so much to see on Lanzerote itself. We will definitely go back to the Island. Weather was cracking!

Room Tip: Sea facing room is good as the view is great of the harbour and the sea. Very pretty. Check air cond...

Just returned from a very enjoyable week at the hotel.Staff very friendly and attentive.Main buffet restaurant was excellent with wide variety of food choices to suit all tastes.Pool areas were well maintained but the hotel does have a real issue with lack of sunbeds.Sunbeds they do have are tired and many need replacing. Not what you would expect for a 5 star hotel. Our first few days there we had to sit at table and chairs by pool bar as no sunbeds available. There must have been a number of complaints while we were there from other guests about this as signs went up concerning putting towels on the sunbeds to reserve them. The reason for this was there were not enough beds for the number of guests.I cannot also understand when you are all inclusive why you have to pay for the mini bar in your room but you did.
These are just a couple of small moans which were out weighed by a great relaxing hotel in good location close to a lovely marina.Well worth considering and we would certainly go back .

Room Tip: We had a suite overlooking the lower level pool, room 208 and it was very comfortable with a great j...

Only my second all inclusive holiday. The first was a grand bahia principe in Mexico which was outstanding. This hotel although very nice does not compare. There are one or two things that it simply falls short in. Attention to detail in places was poor. There seems to be so much that is " not included in all inclusive" The drinks are very generous ( and good !) but there are soooo many that are not included. Ice cream ? Not included !!
Putting all that to one side, the ground to this hotel are beautiful and the views out to sea from many parts of the hotel wonderful. The staff are very nice and seem to work very hard. We were slightly out of season i suppose so there were a few staff short and most bars only had one person or two serving. Our room was very nice with a really comfy bed and was cleaned daily. Didn't use the mini bar due to the high prices. The swimming pools were lovely albeit a bit cold due to the time of year but very refreshing!! The food was very nice but like all buffet style can be a little bit repetitive, there were theme nights also which broke it up a little.
Overall it was a lovely holiday and the walk down to the beautiful marina with its nice restaurants and shops was a nice end to the day.
We would recommend this hotel for a week away from the stresses and strains.

Nice laid back holiday great for sun worshipers or those who like to get out and wander about. We swam in the sea diving of pontoon then would go hikes into hills where we we past along route by mountain bikers. The hotel, if you paid 5star prices for this break you would be disappointed if not then its absolutely fine. Rooms good standard clean lovely sea view. Hotel excellent location. Food was fine,at times great, other times a challenge to put something together. A la carte worth the extra £25 supplement. Spa facilities not included but can be booked for duration of your stay for £51 (discount) worth thinking about. All staff were friendly and professional although always busy. Five star experience would be junior suite with jacuzzi free mini bar spa and treatment thrown in, breakfast balcony at room etc. sunbeds are of quality of 2 star hotel not good enough especially as guests spend around a third of their day on them. Not hotel for young lively drinkers or families looking for a lot of children activities/facilities. Hotel does need some investment but then the prices may rocket and a lot may not get to experience it. Hotel has entertainment at night but is relatively quite in the evening as most guests here probably enjoy. We will return given the chance.

Hubby & I have just returned from 7 nights at Hotel Hesperia we were aware of the mixed reviews on this hotel which did not deter us from choosing this hotel.
We had 7 glorious days of sunshine with temperatures of almost 30 degrees just wanted we hoped for.

If you want a quiet hotel this will suit you, we met some families with young children with grandparents who seemed to thoroughly enjoy spending time with their grand children.

To us room o.k. on the side that did not smell of sewage!!!
Cleaning adequate
No shower gel
Had to request replacement soap etc; this was done
Requested more coat hangers; this was done

Food plentiful always a cooking station variety of foods to choose from
If the Italian restaurant is open for breakfast do try it as it is much quieter than the main one, more relaxed.
I loved the lose tea which once I found had each morning.
Coffee machine to do espresso coffee.

2nd half of the stay management decision to put notices on every parasol in Spanish & English requesting guests not to reserve sun beds until after 9.30am or goods would be removed at the loss of your 10 Euro deposit…. This seemed to be adhered to so all was faire for most guests.

Watched 2 lovely weddings that took place there.

Nice walks into the Port area.

If you get the right price for this hotel then great.

Overall this is not a 5* hotel & would not get the recognition in this country maybe Spain has different ways of granting * status.

Would we go back….. Yes if at the right price.

Our four previous visits to Puerta Calero and the Hesperia had provided us with the perfect antedote to Playa Blanca/ Rubicon, at or around the same standard of the high class Princesa Yaiza Hotel. Whereas Blanca and the Yaiza are bustling and busy, Calero and the Hesperia would be calm and quiet. Not quite so on this latest occasion - October 2013. The hotel was full of guests on full/half board packages making it a different experience. It can be readily seen why the hotel should want higher footfall, but this presented the Hesperia with challenges that appeared to be new to it. The biggest being that there were not enough sun beds to go around. This led to a severe outbreak of early morning towel booking and the hotel having to respond with strong warnings of sanctions. The whole place seemed to creak under the weight of higher occupancy. The breakfast room struggled to cope, extra(and much nicer) bar space at the pool was hastily put together at night. For us, it was an ok week - not anything special. The question we have for the Hesperia is do they want to continue their five star facility or do they intend to settle for something less in the pursuit of higher occupancy? Over the five years or so that we have enjoyed it, the hotel has been starved of investment and this, combined with their pursuit of higher volume means for us, sadly, that it can only go one way. Time will tell.

DO NOT be fooled by the lovely pictures! that is all they are. this is nowhere near a 5 star hotel. all inclusive doesnt even include a bag of crisps at the mini bar! everything has an extra charge! do not even look at the indoor pool unless youre willing to pay extra to use it.the food was terrible. flies all over the fresh fruit and salad, the buffet was extremely small and the food on it was barely luke warm. the pools were nice, the rooms and staff were average, never less than a 20 minute queue at the reception. the entertainment is the worst ive ever seen would expect better in a 2 star. overall a very big disappointment for a so called 5 star hotel would NOT recommend.
