“Still in the glow of our time at Ankobra”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

. At Ankobra Beach Resort, my husband and I REALLY really relaxed and rested. The beach is beautiful with a short walk along it to Axim. Our bungalow was very comfortable and private with artful touches. We had just completed our first rather demanding week in Ghana, and the three nights we spent there felt like a honeymoon getaway with perfect r&r before our upcoming and final week of travel. The first day there, we just rested, read, ate, swam and walked into Axim. The second day, the resort helped us hire a driver to go the location to paddle out to Nzulezo - the stilt village, followed by a tour of Fort Apollonia with its small but very informative museum. We ate all our meals at Ankobra Resort and enjoyed the classic/ timeless feel of the place and the diverse menu. The staff was friendly and incredibly helpful with sorting out travel logistics. The manager/couple was also very friendly, while at the same time respecting our privacy. The staff, in fact, are participants in a development training program for residents of the nearby village. This is just one of the many local socially responsible projects initiated by the resort managers Ines and Klaus Aurnhammer. The food was great. The recorded music in restaurant was great, too. Coming from the US, I found the water there more powerful than I was used to, and my husband who likes to body surf did a bit of that but not enough. Our last afternoon at Ankobra, Ines pointed out a modest hike up a hill that provides chaises at the top and an impressive view of the meeting of the ocean and Ankobra River. We are recommending Ankobra to friends who live in Accra as a great getaway for them, too.

If you are looking for peace and relaxation, then look no further than Ankobra. We have visited and stayed at this resort many times, sometimes staying for a few days or just staying for a luxury lunch for a treat on the way home.

Beach is great and kept clean and pretty private, with showers and ive always managed to get a bed as they put plenty out to accommodate the guests. The sea can be a little raw but hey when its the first land it's seen since the South Pole then you can't blame it. Plus depending on time of year of course. Its great for surfing and ive swam in it many, many times.

The rooms are good. You can book a room with a fridge, aircon and tv. They are on the hut theme and can be a little dark but you can forgive this for the theme and ambiance it gives, plus they are lovely and clean which for me goes a long way. Bathrooms are also lovely and clean.

There is one restuarant which has a good menu with a good selection of foods. The staff were proffesional and friendly and I like the way you can tip at the end of the stay. The owners are also friendly and knowledgable, you can't help but warm to them and you do get the feeling they love the place and have pride and it shows.

What I like about this place is you can get to know the staff as they stay, which tells me a lot and it means you can get a good rapour with them, plus it's a good atmosphere which I really like.

We had to leave Ghana for a while but we are back. Although we are not indirectly in this area, if we do I can guarentee Ankobra will be definitely on the must go to list.

We stayed for a night and absolutely loved it! Amazing location, perfect for restoring energy after days of hard work. It is celan, comfortable and the management seems to have thought of many details you would not see elsewhere. Highly recommend.

The resort is right on the beach and is far improved from a few years ago when it was allowed to go to waste. It is now back to a high standard. Mix of rooms, some with fans others with aircon. Really good food (the lobster is really good). Fine for a relaxing few days, but has a few things to do locally if you want to explore. Worth the trip from Accra. More reasonably priced than Lou Moon and for group/family stays a really good option. if you tried it a while back and were disappointed - try it again now as it has improved so much.

It was a lovely holiday. very serene atmosphere. great for family and friends. The food was great and the service good. The fact that there were other tourist attractions to visit in the close proximity of the hotel made the price all the more worth it!! I was terrified of a wall gecko i saw in the room but the hotel staff came to assist. We would definitely go back!! :-)

I have been to Ankobra beach many times over the last few years, but stopped about 3 years ago as the place was so badly managed. I was on my way back from Cote d'Ivoire recently and decided to give it a chance. Big surprise!! Now there is a very friendly german couple running this resort, and they have transformed it back to that little paradise Ankobra is. It's quite, beautiful beach, very good and fresh food, the room have been renovated. Had a very nice relaxing time over New year's eve. I highly recommend staying at Ankobra beach resort, for those who appreciate nature and true relaxation.
