We thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful Chateau -- the setting, building, grounds, dinners and activities were simply splendid. We would highly recommend it to others, even though it is pricey. And the owner was lovely and charming.

Our only disappointment was not being able to organize horse riding (as advertised). But the pool, trampoline, badminton, ping pong, grounds etc were fantastic. A place we would love to revisit.

We stayed at Briottieres for one night on the way to ile de re. It was the perfect distance from Calais and then on to Ile de re the next morning.

It was wonderful to return again to stay with Francois and Hedwige de Valbray and their family, who were so welcoming once again. The chateau was as beautiful as the last time but the rooms and decoration had been updated yet again and gave this beautiful and classic building a modern feel. Candles at night were a lovely touch and obviously a huge amount of love and care went into making our stay this special.

Francois and Hedwige were charming and we had fascinating chats with the other guests at pre-dinner drinks, which were all included! The dinner menu was decided by Hedwige and it was absolutely delicious, with large portions, as was the wine - what a wonderful surprise and we could not have chosen better if we had tried. We all ate at our own tables in the huge traditional dining room which really buzzed with chat from all the guests.

We really loved the happy family atmosphere but also being part of smart, grand chateau life. We had a stylish comfy room with nice bathrooms and lovely beauty products,

The boys particularly loved all the activities, including a gorgeous pool and pool area, tennis court and full size billiards table.

It was the perfect start to our holiday and we look forward to the next chance to visit.

Room Tip: Our room was a perfect family room with nice double room for us parents and room next door with bunk...

We spend 2 nights in this beautiful castle,in the middle of a marvelous setting ,on the contryside.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner who brought us to our room;the room is beautifully decorated, with a marvellous view on the property. We remained for dinner, the dining room is perfectly set, with romantic candles lit all over the place. We were treated with a glass of "Cremant de Loire", a local kind of champagne, before having dinner.
Breakfast was another fantastic surprise! Devine bakery, very varied buffet, also served with kindness and elegance! The gardens and lands spread in front of our eyes revealed themselves during the day, every spot is taken care of with love and carefulness.
We cannot wait to come back to this enchanting Chateau! Thanks to the kind owners!

This was a dream come true. We arrived a little later than we had anticipated. After driving up the idillic drive through the Park a l'anglaise to the stables, we hurried to check in as dinner was to be served in the ten minutes. We were welcomed by Francois de Valbray who is the charming kind and friendly owner of Chateau des Briottieres who kindly upgraded us to the Chambre Verte in the chateau.
Francois gracefully escorted us to our room, once we entered the beauty of the room was sensational with pure french elegance and charm thankfully no “boutique” in site. The piece de resistance was the sublime bathroom with an original cast iron roll top bath where you could sit and surveil the 56 acres of Parkland.
Francois invited us for an aperitif under the Wisteria on the South west side of the chateau du capture the beautiful evening. Whilst falling in love with the local "champagne" Cremant de Loire which is made by the Valbray Family we were offered a personal tour of the grounds and rooms.
This is a magical place were you can experience real french rural elegance without a hint of pretense.

We were summoned to the dinning room by Madame's bell. The candle lit dinning room had a warm inviting atmosphere.
The food at the Briottiers is "chateau food" not modern gastronomy , which was quite a relieve as the last thing i wanted was to feel unrelaxed on our first night on holiday. Most importantly regional wine, Francois recommended his last Chateau Langlois Veille Vignes Saumur which was a real treat. The evenings menu was a mint and cucumber iced cold soup which was delicious and refreshing, followed by tarragon roast free range chicken with seasonal provencal veg and buttery rice which was superb.
Dessert was a raspberry macaroon filled with a raspberry sorbet. We then retired back to the garden to enjoy the sunset and coffee.

Before retreating to our room we found our way to honesty bar were we joined Francois for a large armagnac. At this point we felt like we were with close friends and Francois let us into the history of the chateau which was very interesting.
We slept incredibly well and enjoyed every moment especially relaxing in the bath tub. Breakfast was a pure delight, a continental feast. which is far more enjoyable that our english cooked breakfasts. Gorgeous jams, breads, cakes etc....
Unfortunately we had only booked the one night but it was a fantastic experience and we will be returning next year hopefully for two nights. Thank you again for the amazing hospitality and personal welcome Francois ! Ben and Michael, Bath, England

As our first trip to france, this was beyond my expectations, The chateau is everything you expect from a historical country residence, this is one of three i believe in Francois's family, for our four day stay, we were in the orangrie, it was perfect, our room lacked only, enough hanging space but in truth i do not travel light so this could be said of any hotel anywhere, my son who is 9 took full advantage of the pool for our entire stay, the grounds are beautiful, the scents from the garden as you walk along, the sound of the crickets at night, there is also a tennis court and a football pitch, you are invited to help yourself to a bicycle which my son loved,

In the evening if you are eating at the chateau drinks are on the terrace at around 8, The evening meal is three courses, and is set, the staff have far superior english than my french and when neither of us could understand we embraced the surprise that was to come, the food was well presented and absolutely delicious, it was like going to supper with friends and having a delicious home cooked meal, by somebody whom cooks incredibly well, we only ate twice at the chateau, and had breakfast once as we were also cruising round visiting near by attractions the local village had a market with fruits cheese and biscuits, a chemist, and in the next village there are restaurants and cafes and numerous picnic areas by the river, we also visited the Bio Parc , we spent a day in Samur, and by far out of our whole trip our visit to the Puy de Fou was (at Francois suggestion ) the most amazing time, Francois enthusiasm for this attraction was not wrong. At the end of our hot days cooling down in the pool, then sitting on the chateaus terrace whilst my son rode around on a bike watching the sun go down was just perfect, Francois and his family have opened their home and are generous enough to share it, they are there if you need them but busy too with the grounds and 6 children, this is not an american or british room service and dote on your every wish type of stay, this is like visiting friends, in their home (and you wouldn't bring pizza to a supper invitation with friends, )

There is a folder in every room that tells you all you need about how things work, our stay was fabulous, and i hope to go back again, this time with a little more french in my repertoire.

As you drive onto the grounds of the Chateau des Briottieres, you will be blown away by the view of the grounds and the chateau. It's truly beautiful and is in such great condition - retaining it's classical beauty and charm.

The chateau belongs to Francois and his wife, passed down through the family over a number of generations. It is their family home - opened to guests to enjoy as well. As a result, this shows in their attitude towards their guests - a great pride of the place and a family welcome.

We were personally greeted by Francois at our arrival who then showed us to our room. Francois is really humble and gentle and for those not speaking French - his English is very good!

The interior is grand and the furnishings are all very quaint and representative of the history of the place. Our room was in the main building on the second floor. Other guests were in the greenhouse or other small buildings. Our room was large and spacious and the interior and furniture were fitting of the countryside.

Francois hosted us for dinner which was a delight. He is a great host and his mandate is to interact with his guests and get to know you as he has welcomed you into his home. He does not pretend to be a fine dining restaurant but a family that provides home cooked meals - which were fresh, delicious and homely. The chateau is a real supporter of the local produce - which you'll see in the food and wine. It was a bit on the pricey side so take the opportunity to explore the area as well as dining in-house.

We were very lucky with the weather having come after many months of rain.

We felt very special during our stay - thank you Francois!

Notes -
Beds were comfortable and large
Turnover service is quick and thorough
No picnics - this means you are not able to bring food into the estate from outside. Breakfast and dinners are served by Francois and the family should you wish to eat there.
The grounds are vast and there are plenty of activities - tennis, table tennis, pool, soccer, trampoline, lounge rooms
If you're expecting a modern style hotel - this is not for you but you will be so surprised and pleased with what this place has on offer.

We have just returned from the south of France and stayed here for one night on our way to Bordeaux. As soon as we turned into the drive we were stunned by the traditional beauty of the chateau. It truly took my breath away. The owner, Francois, was there to meet us and was absolutely charming and could not have been more friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the lodge in the woods, which was magical. We loved it, as did our two small boys. We did not eat our evening meal at the chateau as it would have been too late for the boys, but the breakfast was great and the dining room was stunning. The grounds and pool were immaculately maintained and we only wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be returning. How anyone can give this beautiful chateau hotel a bad review is beyond me. They obviously don't have a clue about traditional French style. It really is a little piece of heaven on earth.
