I almost cancelled our reservations for our group of 4 adults, after reading the reviews. I had our hotel clerk in Lyon call ahead and clear up some details. She said "don't worry, it's often the negatives that get the most postings." I'm so glad we stayed. Rooms were very nice. Two rooms in the cottage were cold until heat took over. But there were ample blankets. After first night, no problem. Room in main house was great. Food was fabulous. First night, coq au vin, done as it should be. Rich sauce, tender chicken. Scallops as a starter. Second night, duck. Roasted to perfection, crisp charred skin, pink meat. House made pate'. Wines were from the chateau celler, priced quite fairly. By San Francisco standards, inexpensive!
Madame speaks no English, and is definitely not social., But on our arrival Libby, one of the staff, could speak some English. So could Patricia, the cook who works with madame. We found them most accommodating, One of our party eats no meat.. Special fish dishes, and a special soup was prepared. We asked for a fire in the living room, no problem.
We would absolutely go back. The home is beautiful. We wish we could see the gardens in bloom.More
