In the small village of Puligny Montrachet in Bourgogne is Le Montrachet Hotel and it’s attached restaurant of the same name. We were staying in the lovely Le Chevalier accommodation in Place de Monument and only a few minutes walk away, so a perfect choice on a very hot Summer day in July. What a lovely experience, we have been lucky to have dined in many very good restaurants throughout Europe and especially France and Le Montrachet is up near the top of the list. We chose the lunch menu of the month with a choice of entree, main and dessert accompanied by a wine suggested by the menu and loved every mouthful. We were also treated to Amuse Bouche and Petit Fours and all for a very reasonable Prix.

This was the only restaurant open on Sunday evening in the small village of Puligny, which turned out to be a blessing. The food is awesome, and the wine list is great. Service is impeccable. There's a large veranda and garden area, which is open to the dining areas. We took a break after the Plate (main entree), and sat outside with a glass of wine, before returning for dessert.

20th June 2018. Dinner for 2. This is a very chic, slick establishment. Masses of staff. Beautiful decor. Immaculately clean. We ate outside. Lovely large tables, well spaced. Food good - but not great in our view. Amuse bouches of cheese puff pastries; gravadlax; ham in aspic; and prawn and avocado - all tiny dishes and very well done. A glass each of Puligny Montrachet (as we here) - but it costs - 13 euros each. Starters of white asparagus in olive oil with ham powder was not good - too tough. Mains of cod with Morvan nut crust and spring veg, and veal with pots and mushrooms was excellent. Excellent cheese board. Good desserts. Lovely atmosphere. Obviously great service, how could it be otherwise with so many staff. Recommended.

We've made three trips to Burgundy in the last five years, and our meals at Le Montrachet are always a highlight. The food is spectacular, the service superb, the dining room and grounds are beautiful, and the wine list cannot be beat.
We walk to Puligny from the Chateau Chassagne Montrachet. On the first night we have the full meal, from amuse bouche to cheese and dessert. On subsequent nights, we have an entrée and cheese or dessert. Order whatever you want: the service will be just as charming if you order the menu dégustation or if you just have cheese and a salad.
In the summer, you can have your apéritif and amuse bouche in the lovely garden while you study the menu and wine list.
But, about the wine list: it's a book with dozens of affordable great wines (as well as the unaffordable greater wines). Go online, download it, and study it in advance. On our most recent visit, we came with half a dozen possibilities already selected and had a wonderful, enlightening conversation with the sommelier before we made our final choice. We ordered a white and a red the first night, given our food choices, and the sommelier was glad to save the bottle of red which we barely dented for our second night.
The dining room is beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. The service is well up to the highest standards of the French.
As for the food, everything I have tasted has been memorable. The foie gras with sour cherries is scrumptious. The langoustines with beets, cucumber, and green apple jelly were outstanding. The pigeon with glazed turnips and sweet onions may be the best pigeon I have ever tasted, and I have eaten a lot of pigeon. Good luck trying to resist the desserts or the cheese trolley. But, the most amazing dish I had on our recent visit was a poached heirloom tomato served over artichoke with a mustard cream. I'm not a vegetarian, but after a couple of days of cheese, foie gras, etc. it was the perfect antidote. Complex, satisfying, and absolutely delicious.
You won't forget your meal at Le Montrachet.
