“A Must !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

This museum completes the Mardin archeological museum. It is a private museum but for some reason that Sunday they let us in for free. The museum explains all on the city of Mardin and the civilisations born in this area but also shows a lot of exhibits explaining how the various communites live together to this day.
Extremely well presented with excellent explanations in English.

“City museum and art gallery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2012

Sabancı City Museum serving in a 19th century barrack built for cavaliers, reflecting the history of the city through photography, household artifacts, furniture.

The two story building has been renovated so that it reflects its old glamour , top floor serving for ethnographic picture of the city, the bottom floor serving as an art gallery for the permanent collection of the museum and the temporary exhibits.

The museum is in the old city, has a nice courtyard with a gift shop ( with a good selection of gift choices) , conference center and clean bathrooms. The top floor with city history has very good explanation so that if you spend enough time you can learn the rough history, the long lost craftsmanship of the area.

The art gallery has a good permanent collection of contemporary Turkish artists . The museum also prepares art workshops for small children.

A trip to the museum is a must if you visit Mardin . The museum is closed on Mondays and the entrance fee is around $1,5
