Having read the positive reviews on this website we turned up on a Friday night looking for some beers. They don't do beers but they did have local wine (TL40 per bottle) and Vodka Cokes (TL15 each). We ordered non-alcoholic drinks instead and this seemed to annoy the waiting staff. According to the menu, our drinks should have come to a total of TL8.50. They were served with some nuts and fresh fruit which we hadn't ordered but assumed we might have to pay a few lira for. We were quite shocked though when we asked for the bill and it turned out to be TL39.50. They tried to justify this by saying that the fruit was TL15 and, even more astonishingly, so were the nuts. Angry words with the manager ensued and after some discussion, he said that he would waive the bill in full and would not accept any money at all. Although this was a decent gesture, it doesn't excuse trying to rip us off in the first place. We left with a bitter taste in the mouth. It seems that they had been hoping we would order the TL40 bottles of wine and when we didn't, they thought they would try to charge us this amount anyway. The building is nice though, as was the live music. Just a shame about the service.

This was my first visit to Mardin and I decided to stay in the old part of town. There were few restaurants serving alchohol so, being used to a glass of wine with a good meal, I decided to try the newly opened Cafe.
Situated in a refurbished old building, the atmosphere was incredible. Food was excellent and the service could not have been better.
I intend to return to Mardin and sincerely hope the Cafe does well and will still be there when I return.

This was my second trip to Mardin. On my first visit (lovely and fascinating as Mardin is) eating out was a problem. There were few good restaurants most of which closed at about 9pm and we found only one that served alcohol.

All this has changed with the opening of Cafe del Mar in a beautifully restored old building. Outside is a pleasant courtyard whilst inside are four rooms separated by stone archways. There is an air of sophistication about the place which is quite unusual for this part of Turkey but at the same time the atmosphere is relaxed.

We were told that they plan to open up an upstairs terrace which would provide panoramic views of the Mesopotanian Plains.

The owners and staff were very welcoming and the food was excellent. Alcohol is served so you can enjoy a glass of the local wine with your meal. We were served REAL coffee too which was sheer joy after the 'Nescafe' served elsewhere.

Cafe del Mar is decorated with good quality locally made craft work (chase metal work, lamps, jewellery etc ) which is for sale and solved a number of my gift problems.

This is a family owned friendly cafe, and the best place in mardin to grab a great coffee and a tasty snack and just kick back and while away the hours.
