“Really bad service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

We decided to celebrate my birthday with a luncheon at the Bastide de Tourtour. Upon arrival we were shown to our table by an unsmiling waiter and given the menu. There was a group of 4 on another table which were being served with water and bread whilst reviewing the menu. Not so for us. Two more couples arrived and were immediately served. After 20 minutes of being completely ignored we left. We wrote a letter of complaint to the manager which was sent by registered mail for which we received confirmation of safe receipt. We did not even receive a letter from the manager to say our comments had been noted.

We really enjoyed staying here. The location is perfect and views from the terrace and swimming pool are astounding. The restaurant is also first class and quite reasonably priced. The interiors are a little dated but regardless of that we would happily go back if in the area again. The town is a very short walk from the hotel and very pretty.

This was a 40th birthday treat for my husband, and when we arrived I was wowed by the stunning setting and views. Even though I would say this was very much a romantic retreat, the hotel staff were very accommodating with our 2 year old. We didn't have one of the front facing rooms but had room 23 which was at the back, but fine as we could still see the beautiful countryside from our room. My husband had a great massage and we took advantage of the jacuzzi room.
Evening dinner was absolutely delicious accompanied by fantastic wine. Plus the hotel arranged a babysitter and an incredibly reasonable rate so we could relax for the evening. The Hotel is well positioned, just 50m walk from the village which is full of lovely little streets, fab restaurants and great arty-farty shops!! Fab weekend.

It's one of those times when you enter your room and you go 'Wow!!!'...equally impressed by the room itself and by the view out of the room.
I was surprised to read some of the negative reviews..this hotel is worth every dollar spent. The service, the restaurant, the room and the location are perfect! There is not a single thing I would change or complain about. You get what you pay for and even more. Origionally we were supposed to stay for 1 night, to accomodate for our trip to the Canyon, but then we decided to extend our stay for one more night, given how happy we were about our stay...
We had a full body massage on the first day upon our arrival, totally relaxing! In addition to that we enjoyed a free sauna and jacuzzi. The dinner at the restaurant was fantastic. The wine list is impressive.
I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone who loves small boutique hotels, castles (it looks a bit like a castle) and a personal touch atmosphere. An excellent addition to exploring Provence.

La Bastide is a hotel with a wonderful panoramic view from your room, provided that you asked for a “privilege room”. We booked “only” a superior room and were located in a room without any view, near a quite noisy laundry. So when booking, avoid room 25 and try to get a room on the south side of the hotel.
The hotel has a luxury outlook, but immediately when you go inside, some exuberant kitsch style may provoke a cultural shock when you are Zen-minded. There is a nice terrace, garden and swimming pool. Free internet is available, but the power of Wifi is limited and does not reach your room.

Breakfast is very basic, any additional item is charged. Order a boiled egg and some cheese and your breakfast reaches >€30. Dinner is good (average quality), the personal is very helpful. If you are really in need of a delicious dinner, drive to “Les Hêtres Verts”, a quiet restaurant at about 3km from Tourtour on the D51 road (direction Villecroze). It was one of our best (Michelin) star restaurant experiences in the Provence area, without the manneristic nonsense food maltreatment experienced in some other star restaurants.

Dutch tourists wanting to be embedded in a Dutch atmosphere: go to the Bastide, as we were told that, during the summer of 2011, 70-80% of the customers were Dutch. To conclude, we are convinced that you may have a nice time at la Bastide, provided that your are happy in a hotel with a traditional interior decoration with many kitsch elementsprofusion of kitschy objects even in the reception area.

Arriving at the hotel we were surprised at how caring for the environment and the robustness of the building. Despite an initial problem with the room air conditioning and a dinner on the fantastic terrace with a little comic incidents, the two days we spent at this hotel have left a memorable souvenir.
Highly Recommended LA TABLE restaurant which is about 500 meters from the hotel in the center of Toutour.

The view from the hotel is magnificent and the village nearby is very pretty. And unlike others I thought the front reception team were friendly. HOWEVER our bedroom and the common rooms were not to our taste at all - clean but very old fashioned and stuffy. The restaurant was OK but not brilliant with a very overpriced wine list. There were various other examples like this - breakfast very expensive and pastries poorer than found in most French boulangeries, refusal to supply iron as fire risk... Hotel is worth going to if you don't mind paying over the odds and like good views but this hotel takes the biscuit....
