“Great place to chill”
Reviewed October 13, 2011

My husband and i have just returned from Arepar, we were due to stay at the Sa Miranda but due to end of season they closed it down early we were informed of this prior to our holiday. I was very please with the Arepar. We were greeted very well by the reception staff and all staff we came across were very helpful and friendly. The beach was fantastic but the sunbed and umbrella prices were expensive (15 euros) The Bar on the beach was really great for food and drinks. We ate at the Arepar one evening with the buffet style the food was ok but we arrived a bit on the later side the food had been sitting around for a while can't blame them for that. There was a lot of choice and very well presented. If you like hills and steps then it is great for you but i am so lazy my legs were killing me by the time i got back home ( mental note go to the gym) if u like shopping then get on the local bus go into Mahon some really great shops (bit pricey) but the bus service is reliable and cheap. Were took the tour around Mahon Harbour worked out cheaper to do it that way than on organised trips. I would recommend this holiday if you just want to chill out not do much at all. Would go again.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 520 furthest away but the view was fantastic. not far from the quieter pool.

We stayed two weeks at the Arepar. It was fantastic for a two star. The rooms are what you should expect. As stated in other reviews not every room has a view but the room we had did and it was beautiful. The staff were great helpful and polite. We went at the end of the season self catering. It was very quiet and some of the restaurants had already closed. You can get buffet vouchers from the reception and if you buy more than one day the price goes down. We bought three days of breakfast and dinner for 117 euros for two adults and three children. The buffet food was lovely but as we were not tied to the hotel we went out and about. We can definately recommend Whites bar. The sirloin steaks are to die for. If you enjoy snorkelling then the beach and rocks just below whites bar will be just your cup of tea. All in all a brilliant holiday.

3 retired early 6os friends arrived at 9pm after restaurant closed to find meals for us in the apartment; a great start. The accommodation is clean and has swimming pools and sun bathing areas;.meals are excellent with a great choice. Only minutes walk to the beach which is clean and shallow and even in may was warmish for swimming which i did every day. Nightlife was quite at that time but suited us. Would recommend hiring a car but their is a bus service.

We were upgraded to Arepar apartments as the Sa Mirada apartments (in the same hotel group) we had booked through Thomsons were not yet open. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The 2-bedroom apartment was spotlessly clean and had everything needed for our family of grandma (me), my grandson of 3 yrs and his parents. I shared with my grandson who had the top bunk and the hotel kindly gave us an extra bed guard to stop him falling out. Although the balcony was small, it had fantastic views of the beautiful sandy bay and the hotel swimming pools, play area etc. The kids club organised by the hotel was well run and was a good diversion for my grandson when he wanted a change from the paddling pool (although under-4s have to be accompanied by an adult). The other two swimming pools were clean, as were their surroundings, with plenty of sunbeds available. The play area was safe and clean with soft surfaces and the kids club organised a nightly kids disco for half an hour in the hotel bar which was very popular and useful for dancing off excess energy and which was usually followed by a quiz or entertainment suitable for all. The hotel offers a meal deal (breakfast/evening meal) for a reasonable price and was good value. The beach is nearby but down quite a few steps so a backpack for smaller children would be more suitable than a buggy. As it was early season, the beach was quiet but the weather was beautiful (although windy for a couple of days). A car was included and there are some good smaller resorts to explore locally (Macaret, Fornells). Overall, a lovely, relaxing holiday, even with a three year old!

Booked for the Sa Mirada (owned by the same company) round the corner, but as it was approaching the end of the season this had been closed down. The Thomas Cooke rep didn't mention this on transfer from the airport. On reaching reception the receptionist spoke little English so for the first day we were convinced that we were staying where we had booked and it was only at the welcome meeting that the penny dropped.
After that, though the holiday was fantastic. The appartment in The Arepar may be a bit dated, but it was clean and well furnished. We stayed in 514 which was top floor with a sea view. Most of the time reception was staffed by two English ladies who were extremely helpful and well informed. The restaurant manager and staff were wonderful.
We had booked HB as the price was really competitive. We booked this way thinking at least if the meals are rubbish as we haven't paid much more above the SC price we could eat out. - We didn't need to, the buffet style meals were something to look forward to. Plenty of choice and as much as you wanted.
The two hotels (Arepar and Isla Paraiso) were joined together. Pool at our end was quiet, pools at the Paraiso end were busier.
Entertainment was brilliant for the children with both entertainers working hard. Entertainment for us adults was a bit non existant though.
Bar prices OK - 4.7 euros for pint and glass wine. Bottle of wine with meal 9 euros which is average for restaurants in resort (if you don't finish the bottle it will be put in fridge for you for following night)
Hotel is five minutes from beach. Beach is beautiful with clear calm sea. Buy yourself a parasol and beach mats (approx 12 euros) rather than pay at least 15 euros per day on the beach.
We walked to Son Parc (brilliant beach, shallow sea) half an hour away and had the pleasure of seeing the mountian goats. Also Macaret - beatiful fishing village, 40 mins walk.
Caught the bus to Fornells and Mahon (approx 3 euros single) and caught buses to Ciutadella (total cost for us both 24 euros - a lot cheaper than an organised tour).
Resort is quiet with less than twenty bars / restaurants.
If you like Butlins by the sea - go to the Aquamarine, if you like a more reseved holiday - go to the Arepar

Just returned. Not all of Arepar is open ie reception, bar & restaurant so you use facilities next door at Isla Paraiso who also own Arepar - no one told us this beforehand though so v confused when dropped off. Half board taken at IP very good tho - not sure how it would have been at smaller Arepar restaurant if it had been open.

Apartments are small, 2nd bedroom has bunks, but no ladder to get to top bunk - not quite full height tho. Apts have air con in the lounge. Kettle, toaster provided - oven is tiny & only 2 rings. Kitchenette is so small the toaster lives on the dining table & the kettle on the draining board.
Main bedroom nice - plenty of storage & hangers throughout apartment . We stayed in 518 which is on the 1st floor & at end of the block - a little road noise in 2nd bedroom i window opens 2 way for safety . Nice view but balcony tiny with only 2 chairs. - Bathroom small but functional. - hairdryer provided . Towels & bedding changed once in 7 night stay. Apartment clean but not spotless. Tea towel provided but no washing up liquid or dishcloth .TV received only BBC2 & ITV3 . Noise can be heard from below & next door apts.
Mainly Brits there , although some Spanish & Germans
Pool small but OK shallow childresn section partioned off from main pool , it was cold tho- plenty of sun loungers available at any time & brollies. Next doors larger pool can be used but busier. Entertainment , but didnt participate - seemed to be water polo, kids disco etc

Restaurant staff at IP lovely - 2 supermarkets on your doorstep & a few bars/restaurants although the resort is small. Nice beach & bay -

After reading the reviews we were pleased to see that the Arepar lived up to our expectations. Spotlessly clean, compact but perfectly acceptable, lovely view of both bays. Even though our apartment faced the road, it wasn't noisy, only disturbed by the relentlessly efficient dustmen each morning about 5am, but soon fell back asleep. The apartment had everything we needed, ample crockery, cutlery, glasses, microwave/oven, fridge with small freezer, hairdryer and safety deposit box (for a small fee from reception) Could have done with a fan as it was soooo hot, but if you open all the windows you get a bit of breeze through the apartment.
All apartments located right next to the pool, which even though it was fairly small, was never crowded. You didn't need to reserve a sun lounger with a towel, unlike the Hotel Isla Paraiso next door which had quite a few Germans staying and had towels out every morning before 9am! Food is fairly pricey in Menorca, but if you look around you can find set course menus, 3 courses for 13 euros (about £11), drinks vary in price, but generaly stand alone bars were more expensive than the restaurants attached to hotel/apartment complexes. Prices varied by upto 4 euros for vodka and tonic!
The beach is gorgeous, clear blue sea with loads of fish and apparently some stingrays out by the rocks! All in all loved it and would definitely go back!
