A very interesting village created & built under the direction of Sir Titus Salt. Sir Titus Salt made his fortune in the wool trade. Like many other Victorian entrepreneurs he wanted to improve the living conditions & lives of his work force, Saltaire is the result of his vision.
If you start your visit at the Salt Mill, they show a 50 minute DVD outside the Carlton Antique shop on the second floor. It is free to watch & tells you the story of Sir Titus Salt and explains the story behind the various buildings in the village. This information is most useful to have as you wonder around the streets viewing the various properties.

A step back into history, it's very interesting to walk around the village and discover how Titus Salt created his vision for home/work/school/church locations for his employees.
A walk or cycle ride along the canal and a visit to the local independent shops and Salts Mill can complete a good day out.

Interesting glimpse into Victorian times and the area by the river is delightful.
Plenty of car parking spaces and very clean toilets.
