We booked last minute for one night, arriving the day we booked. The staff were very warm and welcoming and the room was lovely. Tea and coffee facilities, great shower, good tv, no naff pictures on the wall, simple but effective decor.
The location is right opposite the abbey and we didn't have to stray far to find the UK's award winning Indian restaurant which lived up to its awards. With a 24 hour bar we were able to stroll back and enjoy a night cap too!
Very comfortable bed and lovely breakfast too!
We will definitely try to pit stop here again!

I'm not quite sure what to make of the Abbey Lodge hotel. We arrived at the hotel and went into the nice reception area. The manager checked us in, and was very friendly and helpful, as were the other staff members. We stopped in a superior room at £60 for the night including breakfast and were taken down into the basement along narrow dark cerise coloured corridoors. A number of rooms are in the basement with our room having a small transom window looking onto some bricks, cigarette ends and metal grid with daylight above. The room itself was fine, very much on a Premier Inn theme but with bigger bed, big flat screen TV and nice bathroom fittings. It was nice and clean and at £60 including a spa bath was fine for the money.

We went up to the bar area, which again was a little odd. Decorated in an unoffensive minimal style, the main problem was the pair of huge and noisy flat screen TV's. I wasn't sure if I was in a hotel or a sports and social club, the cider filled loud family who were not residents but perhaps there for the excellent value drinks, didn't help. At breakfast time there was an extensive choice, the fresh pineapple and strawberries were lovely. Unfortunately the cooked breakfast was only luke warm although with good quality bacon and sausage.

The manager encouraged us to put a review on Tripadvisor but of course you have to be honest, as much as he was a lovely man, we at least owe him that. Abbey Lodge is not a bad place to stay, far from it, but there are contrasts - nice room, but in the basement, nice bar but the TV's are tacky, nice breakfast, shame it wasn't hot. Its worth more than a 3, but not quite a 4 and we would probably return, just not to the basement!

Room Tip: Be aware some rooms are underground

We stayed just for one night, and I would highly recommend this hotel. Rooms were lovely and clean, shower fantastic and we were made very welcome (including our two miniature schnauzers). Breakfast was terrific, with lovely fresh fruit.
The guys in the evening were really great and friendly and sitting in the bar watching a bit of football felt very comfortable.

This was our second stay at abbey lodge and we would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in this area. Location is great for getting out and about .. Skipton, Bolton Abbey, Haworth etc are a short drive away and the local train station great for getting to all main places also if you don't fancy driving. The hotel itself has friendly staff, very clean and well kept rooms and an excellent breakfast (full English plus cereals, croissants, yoghurt and fruits) to fill you up for the day! We would always stay here again when visiting this lovely part of Yorkshire and highly recommend it .

We wondered if this hotel could live up to it's reviews as it seemed so cheap. We were pleasantly surprised! Having found a parking space behind the hotel (checked in advance on Google Earth),nice efficient welcome and shown to our 2 single rooms on 2nd floor, at the end of a very dark corridor that was a bit like being given birth to! Very dark and pinkish red! But having negotiated this and the stairs (no lift sadly) our rooms were a delight - bright and modern, 2 pillows as standard, both with lovely bathroom with power shower, nice outlook to the front and very quiet. Tea and coffee making facilities, big modern wall mounted tv, hairdryer and plenty of mirrors. The bedside light could have been brighter as not bright enough to read by. But what really made it so nice was the staff - especially the breakfast waitresses - who served up a first class cooked breakfast to follow the cereals, yogurt, and fruit (melon, grapes, pineapple, orange segments - all fresh, not tinned). Unlimited tea and coffee too. Shipley itself is nothing special but several good restaurants and Salts Mill within walking distance. Especially enjoyed dinners at La Rue, a busy little restaurant serving French food, delightful. We only had 3 nights at the Abbey Lodge, but enjoyed visits to Haworth and the Bronte museum as well as Grassington and Bolton Abbey as well as several hours at Salts Mill. All in all, well pleased!

Room Tip: I'd definitely choose a room at the front as the back looks out over a crowded residential stree...
