'Welcome Aboard' The Hotel J, it is aptly named and harks back to the elegant J-Class America’s Cup Yachts of the roaring Twenties and Thirties. Beautifully located beyond the marina and cradled within a rocky headland - the views are breath-taking. The smooth lines and fine craftsmanship of yachting strongly influence the hotel’s design. The red, white and blue marine scheme is freshly distinct. Beautiful, friendly, comfortable!

Forget the hustle and bustle of the downtown hotels, this place is fantastic. My wife and I spent 6 days here as part of a road trip around Sweden and this was our highlight. The view of the archipelago as the sun sets is beautiful. We stayed in the new building on the 4th floor which is set back from the water. Nevertheless, the water views and the feeling of space from our balcony was pure luxury.

The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The beds with the Swedish matresses were extremely comfortable. You have a choice of two shower heads: rainforest style and classic. The bathroom could have had another towel rail for two towels to dry, or, better yet, a heated towel rail. The rooms don't have tea and coffee facilities which is a little annoying for a 4 star hotel, but you can purchase tea, coffee, pastries and drinks from the reception/lounge area. This area is nicely decked out with comfortable couches and a fireplace for a homely feeling.

The buffet breakfast was excellent with a nice selection of hot and cold choices. The standard bacon and eggs were well made, with the eggs seasoned nicely and not slushy like most hotels. If we were being picky, the breakfast room is too small when it gets busy, with staff and guests bumping into each other all the time. The acoustics are not great when you push the chair out from the table either. The combination of the wood floor and wooden chairs creates a large squeak every time you move. Imagine this on a large scale when it's peak time, and it sounds like you're in a mess hall. That said, we had many a pleasant breakfast here and it's not a deal breaker by any means. Everything else more than makes up for it.

Finally, you should be aware that your choice of restaurants in the immediate area is somewhat limited to the two hotel restaurants: Restaurant J on the marina, and The Club House. We ate at Restaurant J and can recommend it. Other times we ate downtown or had a picnic at the hotel from the local shopping area, Nacka Forum (driving distance from hotel). Make sure you get dessert and a nice whiskey from the bar at the Club House. Nicklaus did a great job looking after us and if you're lucky you might be able to tour the tower which provides stunning views over the water. A magical place to enjoy a digestif and dessert!

One thing: make sure you get the details on the ferries from reception. We were under the impression from the website that they leave from the hotel for the downtown area every 15 mins, but this is not strictly the case. It's more like 30 minutes.

My wife and I have just spent a relaxing couple of days at this hotel and I definitely recommend it. Staff are very pleasant and helpful - The rooms are great and the views over looking the sea are stunning.

The food served at the restaurant was good and prices were reasonable at around 200kr for a main course. Breakfast was a typical healthy Scandinavian smörgåsbord comprising of hot dishes, cold meats, cheeses, cereals, juices, tasty breads, yoghurt and plenty of juices and this is included in the daily rate.

If you want to leave the car at the hotel (100kr a day) this is a good option since the 20 minute ferry ride from Nacka beach is a good alternative.

Room Tip: Take the ferry from Nacka beach directly in to the centre of Stockholm - 40kr each way Also, one of Sweden's largest shopping centres is in walking distant from the hotel - providing you don't buy too much! Parking in Stockholm centre is expensive - I pulled in to an average looking car park and paid no attention to the prices and to my horror was charged 70kr an hour!

Tucked away behind spruce and fir, perched upon the shore at Nacka Strand is a delight of a hotel. Reached by boat (the best way to go) from Nybroplan or by bus from Slussen (both not far from T-Central) Nacka Strand is a strange mix of modern office buildings and old harbour. The Hotel J consists of three distinct buildings - two of which date from the turn of the last century and one of which is bang up to date. The guest rooms are mostly held in the modern annexes and are decorated in blue and white and are apparently in homage to a an American sailing yacht. The rooms are quiet and well presented. One small complaint is the shower tends to get a bit messy so close the bathroom door or risk flooding your room! The Clubhouse serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is also the location of the bar. The kitchen is rather good, though limited selection for dinner. The staff are warm and friendly. All in all a really nice place to stay.
