“Nothing Grand about The Grand Efe.”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

By far the worst hotel i `ve were stayed in. Its clean but thats it. The food is tasteless, the dining hall is full of flys, the staff very unhelpful and speak very little English so if your British avoid, avoid, avoid.Noticed a little minibus that kept coming to the hotel everyday, after a couple of day relised it was a people carrier type ambulance which kept taken kiddies to the doctors with upset tummies. My 17 year old nephew spent 5 of a 7 day hol in the room due to deli-belly. Luckily 200 yards up the road was a doctors where my nephew spent 2 1/2 hours on a drip. The doctor wasn`t a bit surprised when he was told we were staying at The Grand Efe. The beach area was awful, i`ve has an easier walk over a pile of broken bricks. Can honestly say will defo not be checking in here again.

the longer i was there, the more i liked this hotel. The guests came from a whole spectrum of countries and although not much is signed in English, its not a problem for us mono-linguists. The staff are friendly and helpful. Considering it is an "all you can eat" hotel, the food is pretty good - certainly a good number of options, with branded soft drinks included. I was there for a conference and whilst the conference room itself is fantastic, conferencing facilities aren't great (using the slightly-tacky disco as a break-out room was interesting!). Wifi is patchy and hopeless if your room is at the end of a corridor!
I didn't get to "holiday" there, but there is not really a beach to talk of (a few feet of pebbles) and the "claiming of sun-beds" is comically stereo-typical. I got up for a 6.30am walk and met one bleary-eyed guest in sleep-wear off to throw a towel down and head back to bed!
All in all, a great stay, but if you are as un-disciplined as me, you will get fat!

Room Tip: if you are on the 3rd of 4th floor, facing the pool, you WILL be woken up at sunrise by what feels l...

The rooms have recently been renovated and were very nice - clean, comfortable and spacious. Wasn't crazy about the fact that my husband were given 3 single beds instead of one double, but we pushed them together and were comfortable. The food at the Grand Efe is some of the best I've ever had a hotel here in Turkey. It actually tastes good, not like it's been mass produced! Their new conference room is very well appointed too.

Nicely renovated rooms, good choice of drinks for an all inclusive hotel (especially the real branded soft drinks) , food was excellent, very fresh salads, fruit, desserts, always at least two choices of main course - the snacks were great, again all freshly prepared, you could eat all day long if you wanted to!.All areas were very clean, gardens, pool and beach are well maintained (beach towel service was super) all of the staff are very friendly and so helpful - and not pushy for tips! Dolmus service at the end of the street was a bonus to travel cheaply. The entertainment and animation team are good, not pushy. Theres a little barber shop beside the pool - ladies try having your eyebrows threaded, only 5 euros, and the mens beard shaving was fascinating to watch.
Downsides ... Crowded pool area, there should be more control over people putting their towels on the sun beds and not using them till late in the day, but there is loads of room on the beach and the sea is beautiful (take water shoes as there are lots of rocks and pebbles).
Lots of people complained about the food being too turkish, but i enjoyed it, its part of the Turkish experience!
One big word of advice, don't use the banana boat, we saw a nasty accident.
Make sure you have medical insurance and make sure the doctor or hospital that treats you is covered in your insurance policy - contact your holiday rep if you need advice. A couple we met really got ripped off - it ruined their holiday.

This hotel is used by all nationalities, everyone mixed together nicely - i would definitely come here again. Thank you to all of the staff for making my stay there so enjoyable!!

Room Tip: The higher rooms have better views, some of the lower room views are blocked by trees.

We are now in this hotel. Initially we bought a tour to another hotel, but our travel operator TEZ-tours decided that our choice can be ignored and sent us to the Grand Efe even without agreeing with us. From previous reviews it would seem that the hotel is full of people who don’t like Russians, but it is not so: no animosity is noticeable at first glance. Just as there is no dominance of Russian channels on the TV as one could read from previous posts.
Not finding any Russian channel in the first 40 channels I saw a printed channels list (supplied with the TV) and I found only 3 Russian channels (the search was not painstaking), and even they were beyond the first 100 channels.

Food. The food here is terrible. It is nothing to eat. One day there was neither fried egg no omelet for the breakfast. The staff stand even near rice and French fries and strictly limit the amount of food. And despite the AI, ice-cream for children was available for a fee.

Wi-Fi is poor. Neither Skype no any other VoIP call is possible. We felt into sleep waiting while web-email is opening.
The beach is terrible. Two meters of dirty pebbles (from the stairs to the sea) - that's the whole beach.
Of the benefits: the sea is quite clear, there are two platforms in the sea on which one can swim to and there are water-slides for children (and adults).

Overall impressions depend on the price paid for a trip to this hotel.

The Grand Efe is so close to being a really good holiday hotel, but some poor management decisions let it down. The hotel itself is nice enough, with moderate to very high standards in most areas. Rooms as stated by many are clean and well kept by the service staff. Pool area and entertainment is ok, one of my complaints is that they do seem to over accomodate for the Russians even though at the time I went their was very few russians there, many Germans and no English (apart from us), I dont mind this as I like to mix it up with other earth inhabbitants. But when on a weekly bases you have 3 nights of Russian Extravaganze, Russian Folk Dancing, Russian night, all of which appeard Identical to the untrained eye, it got a bit annoying.

The 'FOOD' is difficult to put my finger on whats bad about it. It is presented to a high standard, it seems well prepared and was very edible without giving my delicate English tummy any hint of disturbance. There was tons of choice....but of the same thing day in day out it got monotonous, tedius and rediculous. if I see another meatball I swear I'm gonna poke it in the vendors eye. breakfast is a good example, warm milk ruling out all cereals, a few yoghurt chocies, lots of breads and a taster, jams, lots of fruit (although most of it lacked any distinguisahable flavour for some strange reason). but the cooked section, every day was hard boiled eggs, chopped up hot dog sausage and occasionaly somone frying unsugared donuts or eggs. never any bacon... in fact there was a disticnt lack of any identifyable meat in the entire stay. other than their beloved meatballs which were there in many guises, fried, then boiled, then stewed, stroganoved, mixed with onions and gravy. Management if you read this, get some meats. as for the pool snack area, it never seemed to be in full operation. the chips were much better than the occasion that the restaurant did chips, and they did pizza, burgers and Pida, and yet more dohnuty things...(the burgers looked suspiciously like the meatballs puched flat...I have my suspicions).

FLIES. DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE FLIES IN THE RESTAURANT !!! all over the place, on the food. they were just general fruit flies so not particularly a hygene concern, but very off putting. not a sign that any attempts were being made to erradicate them, no zappers, no blue lights, no smell that prior to the restaurant opening somone had gone around with a can of raid...sort it out!

The hotel is situated in the heart of a little place I like to call 'Nowhere' there is a shop accross the road and a bus stop which takes you to anywhere but the places you want to go. the town of Ozdere (lovingly pronounced by us as Oh'Dear!) has an abundance of hairdressers, keebabs and jewely shops. and unless you need the cash machine isnt worth the journey in, especialy if you are looking for a meal outside the hotel as there simply are no restaurants, only Keebab and Pida's. To actually see anything like a resort you have to travel into Kushadasi at the price of approx £50 by taxi (who will wait 4 hours and then bring you back), and at £50 to get there any bargains you may strike will be severly dented by this cost.

The not so all inclusive aspect is annoying. As stated in my tagline. you get food and drinks. The choice of drinks is lacking especialy in the spirits..NO RUM !! I mean, its a staple and the basis for 70% of all cocktails, yet isnt available. they have a games room with pool tables that you have to pay for so never gets used?? come on managemet, make the pool tables, table football and, shuttlepuck and some other table games free, they cost you nothing to run,not only that they have chessboards and back gammon that they expect yuou to hire out..GET A GRIP !
ice cream is usualy included for kids in all inclusive, the kids looking forward to this treat as they have had in EVERY AI holliday they have had in their lives only to be met by some guy wanting €5 for 3, now to be fair it was a branded name but still (ALL INCLUSIVE MEANS ALL not SOME) and there was no alternative. Thes things arent free, these things are paid for before you go, if the hotel cant afford to give free pool and Ice cream, stick £20pp on the price and let us not have to carry around money and keep finding money for crap things the kids want to do...BIG FAIL.

Staff. I found all the staff pleasent enough, I have seen conflicting reports on the staffs atttitude, I don't know what the complaints were about, I found them all quite ok as far as language bariers went, all seemed to do thier best to understand and accomodate my needs.

Despite all this I would reccomend this place as quite good value for money (be aware the transfer from bodrum they advise is 2 hours...more like 3 and a half when your dropping other off too). If the management and canteen staff pull thier fingers out and listen to mine and others points about the menu choice then this would definately go up a notch, its only these little things that are stopping this place from being a great holiday hotel.

Room Tip: MOst rooms seemed to gave a good sea or pool view. you are unlikely to go wrong.

We just returned from this hotel today (18.06.13), we stayed a week on all inclusive deal. The hotel location is far from Izmir or Kusadasi. this hotel is the perfect place for family with kids/teenagers and elderly who just want to chill by the pool/beach, youngsters did not stay here.

Goods
*clean room for good deals
*all inclusive includes drink or eat all you want

IMPROVEMENTS
*English is very poor especially the restaurant staff.
*Plenty of food but mostly the same stuff everyday, eg.. dinner entree- you have bread section, salad section, mediterranean cold dishes like stuffed eggplans, courgette, bell pepper, olives section, white cheeses, dessert section, main course - rice or pasta with meat or fish.
*very small choice of vegetarian dishes, we heard a few vegetarians complaining that they did not have enough choice.
*way too many Russians - they were seriously rude and ignorant.
*Poor customer service - we complaint twice on the phone and in person at the front desk as the Russians (literally next door - they were in room 1712 and we were in 1714) ruined our sleep, they partied two nights in a row until 5am, we demanded a new room away from them but the man at front desk responded NO, i know them and i know this problem i will talk to them instead of giving us new room. at the end we wasted our energy, we did not bother with him nor as the Russians, we used earplugs to sleep as we still heard their loud music and tv.
*WI-FI connection is also poor sometimes we couldnt access it from our room.
*Toilets near the pool, lobby bar and near restaurant must be cleaned regularly again we witnessed a few ladies complaining to the staff as they were very very stink.

Room Tip: The rooms itself are clean except who your neighbours are and the walls in between are not properly...
