“Simply Delightful”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

I spent five nights at an InUrbe apartment with my daughter and her husband in September. The apartment absolutely suited our requirements. We instantly fell in love with Spello..and would highly recommend it as a destination for an Italian holiday. Our apartment was situated above a little cafe where we were provided with coffee and croissants each morning. We dined in the cafe on the Friday night. The deal was you paid for your drinks and the food was free..we had a wonderful night.

The apartment was well equipped...and it was easy to self cater. The bedrooms and bathrooms were quite large..the pressure of the shower would be my only complaint and that's a pretty minor issue in my opinion. The roof top terrace was a highlight and a lovely place to have afternoon drinks and watch the moon rise. The owner of the apartments was very responsive to emails and was kind enough to drive us to the station when we were leaving. We used a taxi from Perugia and I think the cost was about 40 euros.

It was easy to visit local towns via trains...and very cheap. It is a bit of an uphill walk from the station but we got used to that pretty quickly. There is a big supermarket not far from the station..the little shops nearby the apartment were more than adequate though.

We did lots of walks along the aquaduct..lovely...and walked from Spello to Assisi. This walk was a bit of a challenge..getting lost didn't help and we didn't anticipate the hills we would have to climb.

We stayed at In Urbe appartamenti for a recent family vacation. We needed a room that would accomodate 4 and that isn't always easy to find in Europe.

We had an apartment with a loft that was quite nice. The rooms were clean and had a small kitchen. The location was great.

The air conditioning didn't work the first night which made for a miserable night. The 2nd day they gave us another room to sleep in and said we could keep the other room as well. That made it nice so we didnt have to move everything.

You go across the street to their small care for wonderful coffee and croissant for breakfast.

Spello is quite small and there aren't a lot of hotels and accomodations. We would stay here again.

We stayed in the Smeraldo room at In Urbe apartments for 4 nights. If you are travelling by car be aware there is nowhere to unload your luggage. The apartment is in a tiny street that is in continual use. There is no way to stop and unload. So be prepared to carry your luggage at least a couple of hundred yards to the apartment.
The shower was broken and there is no way to have a decent wash. They supplied a family of 3 with half a roll of toilet paper and a 2 inch piece of soap and didn't come near the room for the duration of our stay. There are two rooms but the three light bulb light fittings only had one low wattage bulb working, so it is extremely dark. They have an air conditioner up near the ceiling but no remote control, so you have to risk breaking your neck to reach the only switch by balancing on soft furniture.
The beautiful window that appears on the web site is tiny and is the only natural light that enters the apartment. There is nowhere to hag out washing to dry.
We paid 96 Euros per night. It is really substandard, seriously, avoid this place! We found out on our last night that there was a beautiful 2 bedroom newly renovated apartment with a 'bell tower' verandah overlooking the whole valley for only 80 Euros per night - if only!!!..

Room Tip: Ask about ingress and egress, especially if you are toting heavy luggage.

We stayed at In Urbe, Apartment Perla for 4 nights.
Maria picked us up from the train station and dropped us back down there when we left which was a big help.
Walter was very happy to let us use his computer in the cafe.
Spello is an enchanting small town and we loved our stay here.We had a delightful view over the very pretty countryside.
We had coffee and cornettos every morning at their little cafe over the street and one evening we had dinner there- a very simple menu but fantastic food.
Definitely recommended.

We spent two days in Spello, a most delightful little Umbrian town. Our apartment at In Urbe was perfect. . .spotlessly clean, perfectly located. We had a well-appointed kitchen, large bed, spotless and new bathroom, and a couch that could have been a third bed. Our apartment was "Perla."

The owners have a little coffee shop across the narrow street, and that's where we had breakfast each morning. We explored the delightful town and were excited to discover the Norberto Museum there, with his wonderful, fanciful paintings. Spello is an art-lover's paradise.

While in Spello, we drove to Colepinno, just a 10 minute drive up winding roads to a quiet town with perhaps 30 residents. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the deserted "piazza" which overlooks the Umbrian hills. We could nearly see Assisi.

Because the olives were being picked, we drove onto Via d'Uliva and viewed a most typical and "Italian" site--families and neighbors out picking olives by hand, sorting out the leaves, and taking them to the olive press at the end of the road. Beware! We left our car for a very short time and inadvertently left a door unlocked. We came back to find my purse stolen with passports inside. Most unfortunate. The villagers of Spello were appalled and shocked and attributed the theft to someone outside the village who might have been there for the olive harvest. This is a serene town of 750 inhabitants. So, just a word to the wise!!

The folks at In Urbe were most sympathetic and helpful. They continually apologized and I know they felt really sorry that this theft had occurred.

We would visit Spello again and recommend it to others. Just lock your car doors!

We moved here from other accommodation in Spello and were delighted at the difference. From looking at a stone wall to looking across the countryside. From a dull apartment to one that was bright and fresh. From management who made us feel like an inconvenience to Chiara for whom nothing was too much trouble. We have no hesitation in recommending In Urbe to other travellers. Appartments are all individual and vary in size and configuration, so check out which one suits your needs. All the ones we saw were delightful.
Thanks Chiara for your warm hospitality and helpfulness.

We stayed here for 5 nights (extending our initial booking of 3 nights) and wished we could stay longer due to the exquisitely beautiful town, awesome apartment and friendly hosts & townspeople. Our very centrally located apartment overlooked the valley giving us a view from our dining table window that kept us constantly exclaiming at how beautiful this area is. The kitchen was fully equipped and perfect for self catering which we did 4/5 nights as so easy. The bed was in a loft area and a bit squeezy but bed comfortable and really there was adequate room. The bathroom was fine except we had to be careful to only let the dishwater from the kitchen sink out slowly as one time it flooded up into the bathroom floor which wasn't too special. Chiara, the owner, made herself constantly available for questions & nothing was too much trouble, ie when our coffee machine didn't seem to work she reappeared with what looked like a brand new one; continually offered assistance for our travel plans & with restaurants etc; our laundry was done free of charge (& after 9 months of travelling was the "best ever" and seemed so much cleaner & fresher than other services) & a delicious breakfast was provided in the bar over the road where Chiara also works. There has been much written about Spello however it was a really magical place & provided many walking opportunities to surrounding towns, ie Assisi, Collepina which we really enjoyed. We thought this apartment was great value & would not hesitate in recommending it to others.
