Stayed one night in the White Lion Royal Hotel Bala. It was not up to the 4 star standard that it was advertised at, however it had a lot of character. The four poster bed creaked when I turned over on the night which disturbed my sleep. The bathroom was very smelly and the bin had not been emptied from the previous guests.

Stayed here for one night and found the hotel to be really comfortable and full of charm.
The room we had was on the first floor at the front of the hotel and it was lovely and the bathroom was really spacious and newly refurbished. The staff at the hotel were very helpful, as we found out on checking out when our credit card had been declined and they let us use the hotel phone to find the cause, (our credit card had been stopped due to our details having been stolen........) The receptionist was very helpful and we cant thank her enough. We had a lovely evening meal in the bar and our compliments to the chef..... Really enjoyed Bala, a number of good pubs in the high street. Thanks to all the staff at the White Lion, a truly memorable stay and by the way the breakfast was fantastic.....

Stayed for 2 nights on first floor at the back of the hotel. Quiet room both nights except for constant noise of a fan from the kitchens (but not a problem). Good size room, modern clean bathroom with shower over bath. Bed was too soft on account of it having 2 mattresses!
Disagree with previous comments about the restaurant. We ate there early one night to be informed that 2 things were not available. The starters were good, but the main courses could only be described at best as "ordinary". Also the service was poor - we had to go looking for the veg! Perhaps it was just an 'off' day. The second night we ate at restaurant just down the main street which, for similar money, was much better. That being said, the breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and excellent coffee. Check in/out dealt with quickly and efficiently. All in all would stay again if in the area.

The White Lion was an ok place to stay for what we required. The rooms were clean, and they all has a large modern bathroom. Unfortunately we has no water on the 3rd floor for pretty much the duration of our stay, and when we did it was only a trickle. As we didn't book direct we will have to pursue as discounts with our travel provider, but they did state we would be eligible for a discount.

The evening meal - the food was good but the service pretty poor as they got one of the meals wrong and then didn't bring anything for that member of our party we had to chase them for the meal. But we weren't charged for that meal.

The breakfast in the morning was appaling but I think the chef was either absent or still drunk from the night before.

The only other thing I would like to add is that I found the manager slightly unprofessional, although he though he was amusing you shoudln't insult your customers and staff, but this was probably as they were drinking bottles of vodka at 3am in the foyer. So no wonder the staff didn't have a clue!!!

We have just returned from a two night stay at the White Lion Hotel in Bala, North Wales.
We booked this hotel because it had been advertised as a 4*. On arrival, we were quickly checked in, we were informed our room was on the 3rd floor, room 305.

The room was on the small side, we found the curtains hanging off and the room was
quite dusty, but what put the top hat on the break, there wa no running water coming from any of the taps or shower.
When we reported this, we were told they had a problem with the valve, and when rooms on 1st and 2nd floor were using water, then 3rd floor did not receive any because of the
water pressure. On our last morning we set the alarm for 6am to ensure we could get a shower, as this had not been possible upto this time. For our inconvenience we were given a £20 a night refund, however this did not make up for all the shortcomings.

On the plus side, the staff, especially Gill and Robert in the Restaurant were extremely
friendly and made us feel at home. Food in the Restaurant, we had 2 evening meals there, and they were excellent and very reasonably priced. Breakfasts were also served in the restaurant and the choice and quality of food again was fabulous.

Would we stay again - no, although staff and food were fine, room and facilities for a 4* hotel we thought were rather poor.
