Stayed Friday night on way to South Wales. Interweb prices for standard room was £85 B&B for 2. Booked room 104 (executive) inc breakfast direct with hotel for £80. Brilliant room..enormous with double + single + 3 piece suite. Large bathroom. No aircon. Quality refurbished. Good staff. Excellent bar food at £7.50.
Take glasses if you want to drink in room + TV/DVD...you may want to take your own DVD as (free) selection limited.
Try the Bala Lake railway....15 minutes walk to station.

Very pleased ... WILL stay again

I stayed at white lion with my husband and 2 other close friends in the month of april 08 for the weekend here.We got the deluxe room which was very spacious and clean.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly too
There is one restaurant here and 2 bars..food at the restaurant was really good too.
Since we had booked river rafting here for the weekend , this hotel was very convenient and only about 5 min drive from the rafting centre.

We were made welcome from the minute we arrived.

The hotel was pleasant with a comfortable lounge.

The food was excellent . The only problem was that our room was too warm and the pillows a bit hard.
The staff were so friendly and very attentive.

I would go back and also recommend this hotel very highly

we stayed at this hotel new years eve 2006. Checked in by a very friendly manager, and we were allocated room 310. I was unsure what to expect, but was more than pleasantly suprised! The room was spacious, the four poster bed was massive, the bathroom was super clean!!!

We had the set 5 course dinner at £24.95 and it was superb!!! The service was a little rushed, but hey it was new years eve, and everyone deserves a night off!!!

The only criticism we had, was that the hotel was too warm!

Other than that a superb break was had!!

This hotel has some good points - nice decor, friendly staff. Our room (205) was good-sized with a lovely bathroom. We were going rafting early one morning and they arranged to open the kitchen specially for us. There was no peeling paint, no stains on the carpets, everything was extremely clean. Clearly money has been spent on it. It's right in the centre of town which is convenient but, as you will see, also has its drawbacks. The first problem that we encountered was that the bed in our room was a small double, with a hard, lumpy matttress. There was barely enough room for both of us (my partner's feet hung off the end), but we were told that there were no other rooms available. The first night's sleep was poor, but on the second night (Saturday) there were drunks yelling outside our window until 4am. As it was too warm to close the window, we suffered through it on the small, uncomfortable bed. Around 3am, the police arrived and it went quiet until they moved off, when the noise began again. When we told the management the next morning, they asked us to fill in a form for the police, which suggests that this is a regular occurence. The other variable was the food. In contrast to another reviewer, I would only recommend the fish and chips, which my partner really enjoyed. I tried 2 lamb dishes (cutlets costing £12.50) and a burger for lunch and they were both disappointing to the point of insult. The first was 4 tiny, dried-up lamb McNuggets which were supposedly organic, from a local farm. The second tasted like a toasted flip-flop. There is a clearly a problem with their lamb supplier, which is astonishing given the location. The cooked breakfast was, however, generous and tasty although it did take a while, even when the restaurant was not busy. The young Polish girl who served us was extremely nice and helpful. One final, small complaint: the toiletries were nasty little packets. These days, at these prices, customers expect better. If you stay here on a weekend, my advice is to ask for a room at the back of the hotel. It faces a grim housing estate but it will be quieter. And don't order anything involving lamb.

  • Liked — Size of the room, cleanliness, bathroom, breakfast
  • Disliked — Street noise, slow service in restaurant, poor quality dinners
