We stayed three nights at the hotel in Bala and had a great time. It is a grand old building in the centre of the town. There is parking available at the rear but there are not always free spaces. It was an interesting hotel. Very old with lots of antique furniture and the stairs quite uneven in places but the room we had had been refurbished and was excellent, spacious, clean and with a large bathroom - definitely a four star room. Perhaps one minor downside is the fact that the windows are old single glazed sash windows and every noise from the street below can be heard, even the jackdaws at 5am!

Interestingly, I felt the ground floor felt more a pub with a restaurant than a four star hotel. The food was adequate but very much 'pub grub'.

I would return though as it was good, staff friendly and well situated in the town and for visiting North Wales.

Room Tip: Executive rooms are large with king size beds. Rooms to the rear are quieter. I didn't notice a lift - we were certainly directed to use the stairs for a second floor room - so not sure how suitable this hotel is for the disabled.

We had a bar meal in the White lion this weekend, and was VERY disappointed with the food. The web site states "All food is cooked from fresh", but this was not true of our meal. All vegetables had been re-heated, tasteless and not even warm. The fish & prawns were overcooked, and hard. The Steak was also tasteless and below the standard you would expect. We would have complained, but nobody came to see if meal was acceptable, or to clear our plates away. It was quiet at the time, so there was no excuse for this.

Stayed at the White Lion last weekend with my girlfriend. The property is old and grand looking as is the interior. We had an executive room which was very large and also comes with a king size bed. (Very comfortable). The staff are friendly and are more than happy assisting with anything they can. The bar area is nice to sit in with a good selection of beers available. Would recommend the White Lion to anyone looking to stay in this beautiful part of the world.

Room Tip: If available, ask for one of the four executive rooms.
