Booked through Laterooms for a last minute trip to Snowdonia with my son and bagged an absolute bargain for the money. This upmarket B&B sits on Lake Bala and each room has fantastic views over the lake. My room even had a balcony to enjoy the view from. People running it were very friendly and helpful. The place has recently been built or extended and my room looked brand new and was immaculate. Beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was very good with excellent choices. The only comment that I would make is that it is designed for getting away from it all. There was no TV radio reception WiFi or mobile phone signal in our room. Some of this was clearly stated on the website but until you have tried it with a teenage son, you dont know what that is like and it may take some adjusting to for some of us.

Wifi should be availbale in all bedrooms and in the breakfast room. CD players are provided but we have no radio or TV signal here. There is a selection of DVDs available to watch on the 50" plasma screen. Vodaphone, Orange and Virgin mobiles work here but O2 in particular has very poor coverage.

We didnt have a car but we were picked up at the railway station by one of the girls "Rachel" who works in the hotel, she also cooks a mean breakfast. We were welcomed by Rosie and Paul when we arrived and had tea and home made cake before being shown to our room The room was really nice with its own balcony overlooking the lake, woods and the little rail track that runs through the grounds. Only 4 steam trains a day go past so no problem. The rooms are bigger than they look on the web page, cosey, very clean and modern. The beds are very very comfy. The shower room was modern, clean and had enough soft white towels, a cabinet to put stuff in and a brilliant shower with plenty of hot water. There is a kitchen for guest to use, making picnics or an evening meal, again with all mod cons including a fridge freezer. There are several blaconies overlooking the lake and hills, a stunning view. Breakfast was very good lots choice, with fresh fruit and home made bread and several cooked options. The porridge was very good. We spent a very peaceful Sunday afternoon sat in the boat house/summer house again overlooking the lake and whatching the yachts race acrooss the water. You can walk in the woods or take the varioes footpaths up the hills. Its also about a 40 min walk into Bala. The local bus service was good and we found most of the locals very helpful. In Bala there is a Co-op and a Spar and other smaller shops, good tea shops or cafes to eat lunch,or places to eat dinner, plus a good local chippy and several pubs. At dusk there can be a lot of midges about so take a repelent spray and keep your room windows closed untill you turn the lights off at night, during the day it was no problem. A journey on the steam train was fun, and there are walks to do at the other end and catch a later train,or just get a coffee and come back on the same train. This is not a party house theres no TV reseption and not a good radio reception. But there is a large TV and DVDs and CDs to borrow. All in all a very nice 4 night stay. The staff are all really helpful, friendly and fun. The owners Robert and Vicki had just returned from a months trip as we were due to leave, but Robert and Paul took us to the station to catch our train home. We would love to go back.

Room Tip: Two of the bedrooms have acces to a shared balcony, the room we were in had its own balcony, other r...

Glan Y Gro is lovely B&B in a quiet location along side Bala Lake. It's a 5 min drive from Bala town. We only stayed for the one night as we were on our way to visit Lake Vyrnyw, we choose Bala as our overnight stay, and thought we'd take advantage of visiting Lake Bala too. We had a Lovely welcome to Glan y Gro on arrival, and was offered a cup a tea whilst we checked in!

All the rooms are named after various mountains/lakes/rivers in the area, and we were in the Vyrnyw room. This room can be a twin, but they converted it to a double for us, and this made it a very big comfy bed. The room was spacious, airy and light and clean, with an ensuite bathroom with a powerful shower! Although it wasn't one of the many rooms that overlooked the lake, the private balcony we had, did give us a view of the lake, from the side of the B&B.

There are no TV's in the rooms, but they provide a cd/radio player. we took our laptop and used it to play something if we needed. Also there's free Wi-Fi.

The Breakfast in the morning, which you would choose the night before, was served in a room overlooking the lake, our table had been set up so we could view the lake while we ate!

I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to get away from it all, as it is in a quiet location and everything is relaxed and peaceful. Also we rang Glan Y Gro and booked directly with them, this worked out cheaper than what we were offered on 'late rooms'.

Have just returned from this fantastic hotel, from the moment we arrived we were welcomed with warmth and friendliness. Check-in was efficient and very informal, we dropped our bags in the room, and were then treated to tea/coffee, with lovely home made cake. The hotel is just outside the town of Bala, but it's reachable with a 40 minute leisurely stroll, be warned though if your coming back at night, it is very dark and I mean very dark along the lane that takes you down to the hotel, the walk along the lane will take you about 20 minutes, and you have to be on your guard as the odd vehicle comes down the lane, and I don't think there expecting people walking along the lane in the dark. The Hotel is fantastic, the views take your breath away, and there is no noise, apart from various farm animals and wildlife. The rooms are lovely, comfy beds and all with great views of the lake, tea/coffee and biscuits in your room, no t.v. which suited us fine, great shower with plenty of fluffy towels. In the morning breakfast is served in a room which has again with lovely views out over the lake, breakfast is excellent, choices for everyone. This hotel has everything, lovely rooms, lovely grounds, lovely views and most importantly, hosts who make you feel ever so welcome, so a BIG BIG, thanks to Rob & Vicki, Paul & Rosie, see you soon. Thanks

Aftern the long drive to Snowdonia from the South Coast I can honestly say we were overjoyed when we saw Glan-y-gro as it far exceeded our expectations. We were greeted by very friendly staff. We were shown to our very spacious room on the lower ground floor and were amazed with the view when the curtains were opened. We had our own patio doors which led onto a balcony so close to the lakes edge that it felt like the water was almost lapping at our feet. We kept our curtains open so we could be awoken by the sunrise over the lake which was stunning. You are asked to complete a breakfast card before 6pm each evening and the choice was fantastic and the breakfast itself was delicious and just what we needed before travelling out each day. We felt so relaxed and regenerated by the time we left. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer!
