A very pleasant dining room, and a cosy bar area - with good beer. A good choice of food on the menu and good, friendly service

“Great place to eat”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

My wife and I stayed in Bala for 5 nights in September 2013. On the first night we went looking for places to eat in the town and came across Plas-yn-Dre ("Mansion in the Town"). From the moment we entered the building the service was excellent and we were quickly shown to our seats, given the menu and had our drinks order taken. My wife had a glass of wine while I tried one of the local ales - 'Snowdonia' from the Purple Moose brewery in Porthmadog - which was excellent.

Our food, main course and dessert, came quickly and we both enjoyed our different choices. The two men who served us were both very friendly and I enjoyed improving my Welsh pronunciation with their help. Our only disappointment came when we ordered liqueur coffees, which were not as good as we have had in other establishments.

Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening and at the end of the week, when we had tried three other places to eat in the evenings, we came back to Plas-yn-Dre. Once again, we had an excellent meal with the same friendly and speedy service.

“You really will not be disappointed..............”
Reviewed October 6, 2013 via mobile

Popped in for sunday lunch today and was pleasantly suprised. Had shared meats of pork and beef with all of the trimmings. At £10.95 for the main it was worth the money. Had complimentry bread and balsamic/olive oil whilst we waited for meal to arrive. Service was first class and very welcoming and friendly. Would recommend a visit here if you are in the area and you will be well fed with homemade local veg etc. Lovely building and very deceptive from the outside. Thanks for a lovely dining experience!!!!!

“Lovely meal and surroundings”

Excellent meal and service. The building front could do with a bit of a facelift, but once inside, lovely surroundings.

“What a Gem”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

Great home made food - and plenty of it. Excellent service - friendly, helpful and exceptionally patient with those of us who do not get around very fast. Easy access for anyone in a wheelchair or on sticks. Clean surroundings, comfortable chairs - a really enjoyable experience.
