“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

I stayed at this hotel 19 to 22nd July (second time within a few weeks) and found the staff more than caring - they really excelled themselves. Nothing was too much trouble. I didn't have an evening meal at the Hotel but breakfast was fantastic - croissants to "die" for but VERY crumbly and they had decaf coffee!! The room was immaculate (again with sachets of decaf coffee) with good sized, sturdy mugs and glowing white bedding and towels The bed was soft and I slept like a log!!

Room Tip: Room 20 has a double bed and side sea view. Room 21 (on my first visit) had a king size bed with ful...

Porthcawl had a few hotels to choose from. Atlantic was welcoming and the room was nicely furnished. We arrived in the evening following a long drive and were told dinner was no longer being served at 8.55pm and had to find somewhere else to eat. The breakfast was well cooked with pleasant service.

We stayed for a Saturday night and had lunch and evening meals in the hotel plus breakfast the next morning
This was the hottest day of the summer so far and the hotel was very full in the evening with non-residents using the bar / restaurant and outside area

The good points

The hotel is in a very good part of Porthcawl and the bedroom was very clean and furnished with good quality solid oak furniture and a comfy bed (double not king size) there is no aircon but a ceiling fan which worked well
Afternoon lunch in the hotel was very good there was a large birthday party but this did not affect the service or quality of the food the restaurant was not hot even on the hottest day of the year
The outside area is very good with table and chairs and heaters for the night but there are no umbrellas or shade

The point the hotel could improve on

The bathroom in our room needs to be updated the water pressure is very low when using the shower and the bath was badly chipped
The service in the Restaurant for evening meal was very slow we were informed before we ordered that there would be a delay, but waited 1 hour for our main meal and then it was just dropped on the table
The waitress just said here the fish and walked away no sorry for the delay and hope you enjoy your meal the meal was not up to the same standard as the lunch time, dishes and was collected with very little eaten again no service from the waitress (was there a problem etc.)
The quality of the evening service was not at the same level as the lunch time and breakfast service we understand that the Restaurant was full but this should not detract from the service given
With some minor improvements this hotel could be one of the best in the area

Room Tip: Sea View rooms are very good

Went for a 'drink only' here and found the bar service to be poor. The young man serving didn't know how to pull a pint. He dispensed a full pint without letting it settle and then presented it.
On the 2nd occasion he did exactly same but when I asked him to top it to a full pint he did it but then spilt it as he placed it back on the bar.
At £3.30 a pint we don't ask much to be served with a well presented pint! It may be in the interested of the hotel to pay minimum wages to young bar staff but at least give them some training on the basics!! I would question his attitude.
By 10 pm because it was quiet the staff were hinting for us to leave. A great experience I don't think so!!

We attended the Atlantic Hotel to celebrate my aunt and uncles 25th wedding anniversary. The food was hot and delicious. It was served in the conservatory part of the hotel which was a really nice area, if a bit warm. Drinks at the bar were pretty reasonable but it was quite busy with only two bar men serving so there was quite a wait. Also, it's a shame there were only two toilets in the ladies and I didn't like the fact that they had hand towels in the ladies rather than paper towels or a hand drier. Nonetheless, I would happily go there again.

Went for lunch on 19.06 with our grandson and bought a Coronation Chicken sandwich (£4.75) and a Prawn sandwich (£5.25). Advertised as a sandwich with salad garnish. Sarnies were two slices of boring white bread with skimpy filling and a few green leaves and coleslaw. Really poor value for the money! Won't be having sarnies and drinks there again as this was no treat just left feeling ripped off!!

Elton John (Tribute- D.Torkington) wine and dine – fabulous! The management of the hotel is well run and nothing is too much trouble.

If you want modern then this isn't the place for you...if you want service with a smile and a relaxing break with courteous, friendly staff...then I highly recommend.

A comfortable and a splendid location.
