Have eaten here several times due to some family members liking it and booking it for it's convenience. From my point of view there's zero organisation in this place, lacklustre service by bored looking teenagers and other clueless staff who seem to be simply passing time until they die of boredom, juding by their expressions.

Layout: You enter the Atlantic at the side of the building. This takes you past a Reception desk that never ever seems to be manned. Then past a weird bulky glass fronted display cabinet that houses random pieces of jewellery.... (what is that about...?) As the main restaurant is split into 2 sections and, bizarrely, only one of these has a 'Reception' area (if you can call it that: It's a stand with a book on it that someone is supposed to man, greet customers + show them to their table) The reality of this is that there is usually no-one manning this, and you're left to ask any random member of staff that you happen to come across.
So: Once youve wandered past the ghostly/unmanned main Reception area, down a narrow L-shaped corridor, past the Bar section on the left to the end of the corridor: You're then lucky not to be left waiting in said narrow/dark corridor with people + staff barging past you, as you wait in confusion for a member of staff to come and tell you where the heck you're seated!

Why not just sort it so that there is a clear sign as you enter the building to report to Reception for restaurant bookings? That way there would be at least some glimmer of organization and, as an added bonus, it would keep the Receptionist at her actual post and give her something to do.

Service: If it's busy it can take an absolute age for a member of staff to come and take your drinks orders so be prepared for a looooooong wait. Usually no-one will bother and you'll have to wave a member of staff over. The food can take even longer. One time we waited an entire hour for our main course after our starters, by which time I was losing the will to live. In the end a family member had to tell a member of the staff that we were STILL waiting!! No-one seems to bother to keep an eye on the tables and check whether customers need anything which is shockingly unprofessional. The food is mediocre and overpriced. I've had cod served with a delightful piece of melted plastic in it where the 'chef' (cough) had obviously left some of the microwaveable bag on it! The fish itself tasted of absolutely nothing and was slopping around in water - yum! And for god's sake don't order the duck as they have no idea how to cook it. It'll be overdone, covered in fat and dripping in oil!

There is some blonde lady who seems to wander around during service. On the plus side she's always smartly dressed but I don't really know what she does or what her role is actually meant to be? If she's the owner she needs to address the dire service in this place and get someone in who could actually get the staff organized. Don't just waft around aimlessly during 'service' whoever you are. Train some decent staff up to levels other than the current YTS-it'll-do/whatever levels. And for god's sake sort out some kind of organization within this place for any customers who are daft enought to dine here. Don't leave them huddling in the corridor being pushed from pillar to post!

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Avoid it - there are so many more better places to go to without wasting your money here.

Room Tip: If you like your fish bland and served with melted plastic in it this is the place for you!

A lovely modern, bright, light, clean hotel with a beautiful airy conservatory/restaurant that is a real delight. Beautiful spotless rooms and the restaurant was of a surprisingly high standard. Super evening meal and a good hot, large breakfast. If you want to stay in Porthcawl then this is the place to stay.

Went to the Atlantic for a family meal recently and was disappointed with the quality of my meal. Usually receive really good food here but it just wasn't as good. I opted to miss a starter to go for a more expensive main, the rib-eye steak. At almost £18 I was expecting a really great meal. The steak wasn't cooked as requested, the accompanying onions were mostly raw and sauce very oily. As we were a big group I didn't make a fuss but will know for next time not to pick the steak! I have to add the pub favourites such as gammon and curry ordered by other members of our party went down very well.
Have had very good meals and service here in the past, however bar staff were hard to get hold of and waiting staff seemed very distracted, perhaps under-staffed for the amount of diners.

We booked an evening meal for ten at the end of March to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. On arrival we were advised that due to a busy lunchtime period, the menu was depleted and when we eventually received our food it was not of the standard we expected.

As emails, letters and telephone calls expressing our disappointment remain unanswered, we shall not be visiting this Hotel again.

We had to be in Porthcawl for a friends wedding, and decided to add a few days on to catchup with old friends and made some new ones.
The Atlantic is a lovely hotel, centrally situated with marvellous views and excellent car parking.
The restaurant serves excellent food, uses local produce, and is obviously very popular with the locals. Breakfasts are fantastic, good choice, and sufficient quantity to set you up for the day.
A mix up over the booking was quickly dealt with with a minimum of fuss, and we were upgraded to a sea view room. The rooms are excellently furnished, my only negative is that the bathroom is carpeted which is a personal hate of mine. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the receptionist is obviously well trained and a good "face of the hotel".
