“Quite nights break”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

A spur of the moment night away, at last a sunny day, took advantage booked with bookings.com after booking in with a very nice receptionist, we were shown our room. We had a short walk around the pretty village, which supports two other pubs and a lovely village green, the beer garden was lovely, taking into account this was a Monday afternoon, it was quite busy. Please note there is no atm in village and we needed to go into Porthcawl for cash,( only draw back). evening meal was served in a lovely resteraunt and we both enjoyed our steaks and the wine. My husband also enjoyed the Brain's beer, will return again and recommend to friends.

Room Tip: We had a nice room with views over farm with mountains in distance

Stopped here for lunch to break up our 4 hour journey home. Found it by chance after heading for porthcawl from the M4. We were hoping to find a 'chain' pub for a quick lunch but so glad we found this place instead . We had our twin baby boys with us and the staff were very helpful and looked after us superbly. Nice food at reasonable prices too. Thanks very much.

I'd been to the Rose and Crown for a drink before staying, and found it lively, with a bit of a middle class, middle-age bias. There is a good range of wines and ales, as you'd expect from Brains and the evening meal was good pub fayre. Breakfast was good quality, well presented, and the staff friendly and courteous.

The room itself was surprisingly modern and generic. No creaky uneven floors despite the age of the place, but on the other hand not steeped in character. Overlooking the car park and outdoor tables, and with a small low window, our room may be a little noisy and hot in summer.

The lanes in Nottage are a tight fit, and parking is likely to be an issue if you arrive during the evening peak. The roads will be quiet at night, though. The village can be access from the Kenfig/ Margam Jct 38 direction, but most travellers are likely to come off the M4 at 37 and turn right, ('Rest Bay'), and right again as they come into Porthcawl.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Green are likely to be noisy at times.

I found the Rose and Crown to be exactly what we wanted. We were travelling to Swansea for football and we wanted to break our journey. It was situated in the small village of Nottage, next door to the sea side harbour of Porthcawl, just off the M4, and about 20 miles from Swansea. The Rose and Crown overlooks the village green. The staff were friendly, the rooms spacious and extremely clean, a fantastic shower, the food excellent, both dinner and breakfast, fresh and good quality and very reasonably priced.

Stayed at the Rose and Crown for two nights (Thurs, Fri) and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are excellent and the food and accommodation are absolutely fine. It is very good value for money and if you are looking for a nice pub to stay in and around Porthcawl then look no further. It is a pub so don't expect to go to bed early and not hear noise from the bar. There was live music on the Friday night which finished at about 11.30 pm. We retired to bed after this time and slept very well.
